Gospel is older than the Scottish identity iirc. It's based on Gregorian chants.
You also have the Scottish snap that is popular in modern hiphop, but that doesn't mean hiphop is Scottish.

What are your thoughts on ironic hyperpop which lampoons late capitalist consumer society and the vapidness of society in general?

Not so sure it's just distanced enjoyment without commitment, the way Zizek talks about cynicism.

In some of this music there's a rage at not being able to escape, being integrated and coopted no matter what you do, so you impotently lash out through self-destructive and absurd hyperconformity that is deemed abnormal and antisocial by the system itself. So there's really no enjoyment in the cynical sense, you lash out because the music itself is extremely painful to you and you can't take it anymore, what you enjoy instead is taking revenge on society by making it excessively violent - considering pop music is really a form of violence.

It's kinda similar to some aspects of Notes From the Underground, you also have a protagonist that wants to desperately escape and take revenge through self-destruction.

The problem with most of PC Music and similar shit is rather that retroactively cca 2000 pop does it much much better, it's more """hyperpop""". PC Music just can't help itself and veers into artsy fartsy cliches instead of actually driving the conformity itself to the extreme.

Machine Girl is also better IMO, although it's a different approach, it lets impotent rage pour through.

maybe im dumb but i dont understand the idea of willingly becoming something you hate because you hate it that much. the reason i think they play into the genre at an ironic distance is because they like it. if they didnt like it then they would be nasty towards it or just leave it alone. no? again, i might be dumb.

Yeah it’s ironic but that’s not necessarily some big new thing, there’s been a lot of ironic pop music over the years.

No boring ass woody Guthrie singing about how sad it to be from Oklahoma while strumming his guitar. I want synthesisers, fast rhythms, weird ass instruments you’ve never heard before. I want shit that would make you want to get up and dance in your local town square with other third world peasants.

Is its leftist? cool. Is its advocating for the genocide of some ethnic minority or the establishment of a global caliphate? I don’t give shit as long as the music is fire.

I want to sing like the oldschool 50’s singers that sounded like guys with powerful voices like sinatra and all. I guess I’m mainly looking to understand the main concepts and get some tips that could instantly help my singing. Like in martial arts relaxation and whole body movements is a big concept. Just wondering what the main ones for singing are. I like practicing by diving headfirst and then getting the refining the basics down later

>Also how does one get better at playing by ear? Is it just a myth?

>I’ve been messing around with piano for a month now and I know a few keys that go good together, but don’t know any theory or when I look into it seems too complicated and too much work to get into.
>Is it possible to be a good musician by ear only? I’m more interested in playing than doing the basics
Not really, you need some basics.
It might be easier to learn guitar than piano without much theory. There are many "tab" (guitar tablature) books which basically diagrams of what strings you play with your fingers at certain positions on the fretboard for songs, instead of being musical notation as such.
But it's useful to know things like the names of the chords (tonal clusters which give the feel of the music) that are being played at the different parts of the music, which you'll get from a book. then you can play it on an instrument when you know how to make the same chord with you fingers . - it's going to be a group of keys on the piano, or certain strings played with the strings held down on certain positions on the fretboard. So you can basically work some stuff out like that without having to have the supernatural pitch ability which you'll need if you try to do it all by ear.

>>982
>Also am I just a noob if all I can do is chords and not finger picking and tabs?
Nah you can play rhythm guitar in a band, or busk on your own if you sing as well. Any thing's better than just passively consuming shit and not doing anything yourself.

Have a listen to vid related, anon. Sounds good, doesn't it! But all she's doing is strumming chords.

Yes, yes, it's ANOTHER thread about hauntological shit. But isn't vaporwave, by the process of aestheticization inherent in it, ultimately a celebration of all the soulless corporate trash it purports to poke fun at? I realize I'm generalizing somewhat and not all vaporwave necessarily has anything, positive or negative, to do with capitalism. But if you listen to something like Ferraro's Far Side Virtual, or Luxury Elite's TV Party, doesn't it conjure an image that seems genuinely desirable, even if it's empty? Even at its most uncanny (like a lot of the "broken transmission" subgenre) doesn't it aestheticize its subject matter and thus make it more bearable if not outright enjoyable? Isn't that why the aesthetic has taken off to begin with?

Is there any way to really pull off this "ironic" approach to music without ultimately producing either a celebration of what you're trying to attack or something that nobody actually wants to listen to? If we wanted to turn this method against capitalism could we instead create nostalgia not for the ultracapitalist 80s but for times of greater cooperation and a genuinely functioning society? Would there even be any point to doing so?

yes, for it to be a satire it would have to be intentionally bad but that would defeat the purpose of creating music in the first place, but vaporwave obfuscates itself in irony which can incidentally be appreciated unironically by the uninitiated which opens itself to corruption and infiltration.
>>

 No.2728

>>1256
perhaps one could see in it a critique of superficiality and soullessness, just because a person is attractive doesnt make them a good person, if you know what i mean, perhaps that makes vaporwave reactionary since that would be kind of idealistic analysis
