 No.1985

General for 4X games, but also an opportunity to introduce you all to a new game called Shadow Empire.

The game has an incredibly deep planet generation system that affects gameplay massively, including rotation of the planet (lol), makeup of the atmosphere, terrain, mineral deposits and alien life. It also has a logistics system to make you supply your units with food and ammunition, if they run out of supply they'll be very weak so you need to keep expanding the supply lines to the front and also making sure the enemy cannot cut you off. Obviously being encircled is very bad news for your troops.

You start as a minor "Regime" and your goal is to conquer the planet after the previous galaxy wide regime collapsed sending most of it into civil war and apocalypse. Each regime can be run differently and has different perks based on decisions you make throughout the game. For example if people start striking you can send in the army to deal with them (autocracy) or just pay them off (democracy), alternatively you can avoid the situation entirely by administrating the zones well, but that may lead to other troubles like a lack of credits for purchasing resources. You can run a mix of different systems so your decisions aren't set in stone for you but there are bonuses to always picking a certain method like unique units and stratagems, which are like ideological playing cards.

Lol, the cheap 3d modelled people make it look like a porn game

But I do like the idea of a game where you get to name/define your own empire so maybe I'll try it out.

Kek I wanted to mention the faces but didn't want to write a thesis on the game. The vidcom images are also weird in a totally different way, but the pixel art for the units and stuff is really good. The art is honestly a bit all over the place.

Luckily it seems graphical mods are the easiest thing to mod so people have already started tweaking it. The faces are generated in the same way Papers Please did it so as you can see they can probably be swapped out with any style. The anime mod is inevitable.

Ok, I tried playing it, and it just seemed really confusing and sheet. Also, it bugged me that I couldn't change my regime name/flag after starting. The politics overall just seemed pretty lackluster and surface-level. I did like the 'apocalypse generator' though, it was kinda spooky.

My personal fave was/is Alpha Centauri still

It is pretty confusing, there's menus in menus in menus. The generator is very cool, I think the rotation of the earth changes where the ice appears during winter, which may shut off farms placed there? Not certain on that one. What would you change about the politics? There are factions and parties and stuff in your regime that leaders are a part of and have their own politics, don't know if you got that far.

Alpha Centauri definitely has more interesting characters and a better tech pace/cooler tech, they should take some more inspiration from it since it seems most similar to that. I assume Chairman Yang is the board's favourite?

Domai is too easy of a choice and all other DLC factions are stupid. So let's look at baseline ones only:
>Morgan
A porky.
>Yang
A sociopathic barrack communist.
>Lal
A centrist who just wants to keep it all together while operating on the old bourgeois Earth UN laws.
>Godwinson
A religious schizo.
>Santiago
Unironically based comrade mustering militaristic Espirit de Corps to build a socialist society. Literally was a member of an armed socialist community org back on Earth.
>Zakharov
A technocrat with no humane morals.
>Skye
A libtard who would sacrifice humanity for nature, probably fine with the blooming and abandoning human bodies as well.

Yea I'm going to say the Spartans are the best faction here.

I wanted to talk about it but it's such an obscure game in a relatively obscure genre I put it into the main body of a 4X general instead so it wouldn't fall into irrelevance.
Do you not like it/surprised to see it/think I'm being paid to shill it?

Eh, I don't think Santiago is a leftist at all, she's more of a militarist to the point of nearly a fascist. I read the info on the wiki and she goes from being in the Red Panthers to being a cop enforcing martial law with distinction which speaks for itself.

I think the writers just didn't think of or understand what they were writing, plus these descriptions were written for GURPS Alpha Centauri according to some other page on the wiki. From what I remember of my /tg/ days the creators are huge libs, and have 0 real understanding of politics or history. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something retarded like a Native American Panther offshoot full of Mexicans going by the average RPG

Redpill me on Alpha Centauri. What's the plot?
>>

 No.9680

>>9676
Earth is dying due to an unspecified event/series of events (climate change is an obvious one, but perhaps resource depletion, perpetual war, some fantastical event), the UN loads up a colony ship to blast off to the Alpha Centauri system, on approach to the system the captain is murdered, a civil war ensues on the ship over who should take charge which causes it to begin to break apart, the various factions escape in drop pods to the surface of the target planet, then they try to re-establish human civilisation. Honestly anon I recommend you just play it, it even has these cool interstitial bits of text that fill in more 'human interest' stuff about what your leader/your society does as events in the game transpire.

Humanity then realizes that the planet is fighting back while giving you agonizing mental terror, ancient philosophical questions can be solved, and in the expansion, human rights don't apply to aliens. Nerve gas is the only solution to genocidal aliens with superior tech and ridiculous bonuses. But they will be happy if you're running a planned economy.

>>2125
If you play as Santiago, people will call you a right-wing lunatic. She was based on burgerstani survivalist groups and social darwinism + LatAm fascism. Nothing stops her from running a planned economy and having Morgan call her a communist, but she's also definitely about the eugenics and turn-the-dead-into-a-hovertank.

Also, the irony about "superior training and weaponry" Santiago is that no matter how good her military is, she has a logistical disadvantage from her industry penalty. She's the best skirmisher in the game, but isn't equipped for a full war like the others are.

You ivory tower intellectuals must not lose touch with the world of industrial growth and hard currency. It is all very well and good to pursue these high-minded scientific theories, but research grants are expensive and you must justify your existence by providing not only knowledge, but concrete and profitable applications as well.

she's certainly chaotic and knows how to manipulate others and acquire power, but I don't see how she's necessarily evil because of it, maybe neutral at best. the way her faction is run shares very little in common with Yang, they're practically opposites in that respect.
