>>157392>The Matrix is just baby's first PoMo, you wouldn't get it unless you watch the whole trilogy. The first one literally ends with an RATM song.
>But then the Wachowskis backpedalled and said it was about transitioning (even though they told how much they love Baudrillard and were inspired by his works).A couple thoughts on this which should be considered by everyone on the internet who brings this up:
Firstly, two things can be true. It's possible for a critique of capitalism to also have some sort of personal mental health metaphorical subtext. These aren't necessarily contradictory statements.
Secondly, the anti-capitalist message is so obvious that this later trivia is in "who cares?" territory. I didn't have to be a well-read Marxist or be familiar with Baudrillard to pick up on the anti-capitalist message in the first movie. Like if John Carpenter came out tomorrow and said "actually,
They Live! was a metaphor for my experience as a synth player" nobody would give a shit, they definitely wouldn't be quoting it years later on the internet as though that statement somehow changed the movie for anyone who had actually seen the movie.
