No one who recommends joining or forming labor unions is doing so on the basis that every single trade union to ever exist was inherently good, they're recommending it because, for workers who join or form unions, it is a better way to concentrate labor power. They can also be subverted, used as tools of espionage or sabotage or imperialism, or captured by compromised capitalist interests (which is completely true of the vast majority of major labor unions in the US today, even though joining them is still better
for workers in the US than not joining them is). No one who recommends trade unions is doing so on the basis that they never do anything bad or are always good, and it's insane to think that that's what they're saying.
