It's because of the fear-mongering around youth experimenting which adults are jealous of because they are no longer youthful, so they resent the youth and try to oppress them to try to feel better.

People act like anyone born after them don’t exist.
I see all the time how a lot of people leaving their twenties whenever they interact with someone born after their birth year act surprised that their juniors are now adults
