Just jumping in but this is an important point. The patronizing of a 'cause' for the smallest minority for political purposes created a reactionary response, weaponized to use a broad brush to paint an imaginary "left" for the faux noose reactionaries to hate and fear as a monolithic whole.
In an ideal world, if civil rights were truly guaranteed for all (and demagogues weren't desperate for scapegoats), the trans issue would be an inconsequential one in the realm of politics.
