Yep.  It's a job.  In this day when nobody else gets benefits like retirement, free tuition, free medical care, free housing, and a massive reduction in the cost of food and groceries it is a job a worker really does not want to lose, especially when the alternative is becoming a bum who lives in a cardboard box and eats out of dumpsters.  The fact that the job breaks your body and soul is an unpleasant reality, but it does not change the immediate financial reality.
