Is misanthropy actually a phantasm? Not as in "hating all humans" but as in "contempt for humanity," for lack of a better word. Both Nietzsche, Palante, Serge, Parker, Marsden, Goldman, Novatore and the Narodniks expressed their contempt for humanity/the masses. I'm asking since it seems to be a natural outcome of pessimism, reflection and bad experiences rather than something that arises out of ideological propaganda. The concepts of false consciousness, self-alienation, phantasms and the Spectacle only make this worldview bleaker. All these ideas perpetuate the view that the proles are complicit in their own oppression at least to some degree. Add environmentalism in the mix and you get an inflammable concoction of despair and frustration ready to explode. The more you think of all the ways humans fuck up, the more you start to resent them.
