Thread for ancient Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Black Gospel, New Orleans R&B, Doo Wop, you name it - that stuff from the '50s and '60s, the really old style stuff.

Another, earlier version of this by Archibald & His Orchestra titled "Stack-A-Lee Part 2" circa 1950.

The industryslop made to destroy the common civilizational culture and escort the individual into the consoomist jail cell had to be made good at first

This but unironically. It's crazy how much more important actually having good hooks was in the 1960s.

Why are we celebrating a genre that was made to keep the Black man down?

Malcolm X said: "The white man will try to satisfy us with symbolic victories rather than economic equity and real justice."

Fool we're literally just posting music. Take your juvenile pseudo-intellectual ethical consoomerist shitposting elsewhere.

But why do they sing about love and heartbreak and Christianity instead of class struggle?

>Dancing In The Street

Why aren't they going protesting and going on strike in the street?

The problem is not what they are singing. The evil lied in the scheme of mass consumption of cultural commodities that arise after WWII. This kind of music in fact has nothing bad per se. It would have been perfectly fine if people owned it, played it and enjoyed it in tabernae or wherever. The record market, radios, tvs transformed even the artists into commodities and labels; even singing about class struggle could have been exploited the same way.

>But why do they sing about love and heartbreak and Christianity instead of class struggle?
Why did western classical composers from 200 years ago write operatic fantasy, romance, and tragedy instead of about class struggle?

Shit, better go yell at somebody for listening to Mozart. Better condemn Mussorgsky immediately; the USSR didn't, but maybe that's why the USSR ultimately failed, they didn't understand the importance of pretending to be morally above historical music that was in no way revolutionary and didn't pretend to be. Unlike you, a definitely very serious socialist who will create the world's most successful socialist revolution by complaining about Martha and the Vandellas.

>>2075
This, the subject matter doesn't actually matter that much. The evil is in the industry. That's not to say there wasn't music around less un-revolutionary than Motown hits, in terms of lyrics, but even that can be mass-marketed and it isn't revolutionary on its own to sing about class struggle.
