Gender roles are normal and are statistically in the majority. Even in a lesbian couple there is generally a more feminine and submissive person and a more dominant and masculine one, because gender roles are complementary and not just some arbitrary construct. It's not something like a fashion trend that just becomes popular, it is inherently natural because one role supports the other and vice-versa.
