The thought of some action director unironically thinking this episode had quality action animation. Or the thought of some studio knowing it was garbage and intentionally shitting in their fans' throat for a climactic battle. Whichever was the case, they both made me laugh out loud. Anything that makes you puzzled over the intentions of its creator is prime so-bad-it's-good material.

I'll admit I stopped after one season, having sated my thirst for meme juice. But so far as I could tell, the story was spectacularly lacking in self-awareness, both about its ridiculously rote characters, and about its own worldbuilding (for instance, the mind-control aspects of the summoning spell on the protag, which not only kept him loyal to the tsundere, but subtly erased his desire to return home, blithely ignored except as a vehicle to propel the plot).

Something with a similar dynamic, but actually good, would be Ghost Sweeper.

Samurai Flamenco is pretty great in this regard. It starts as an unironically good anime version of Kickass or something before going violently and hilariously off the rails. I remember watching this show with a friend of mine and the edibles kicked in right as we got to episode 7, and let me tell you we have never been the same since.

Garzey's Wing is an absolute classic of the genre. It's an incomprehensible disaster from the bottom up. I've heard Mars of Destruction is in this category as well.

I found Cross Ange pretty funny, but I didn't get very far into it.
