Yup! It's been 30+ years since he last directed a television anime (Urusei Yatsura) or comedy OVA (Gosenzo-sama Banbanzai!). It's a welcome change of pace, and his return to the industry has been long overdue.

bruh it's a yuri vampire romcom made by the guy who directed gits and angel's egg. his television/ova work (from urusei yatsura to patlabor) has always been described as having "slice-of-life" elements in retrospect, but they clearly don't have that "iyashikei" type feel—they're more old school, and delightfully so at that.
