This article was actually better than expected, although the WSWS did just have someone from their organization go through a late night anime to produce this piece.

Darling in the Franxx has to be most right wing anime which aired in recent years. It subtlety plays with the conservative ideology (traditional gender roles and Cis identity) unlike Gunbuster which blatantly romanticized the imagery of Imperial Japan. By emphasizing on Mitsuru and Kokoro, it is trying to propagate this idea that humanity must stick to traditional role of continuation of species. By rendering Kokoro unfit for piloting Franxx, a metaphor for career women losing their job after getting pregnant, we are told that it’s okay as long as they are curing gays of their homosexuality like Mitsuru.

Mitsuru was your stereotypical angst gay who was frustrated for repressing his homosexual urges in a strict heterosexual environment. His character development involves not only giving in to the advances of a girl whose secondary sexual characteristics are way more mature than any of the pilots but also impregnating her after being made to undergo intercourse on her urging. Which brings us the curious case of Ikuno, the lesbian dyke of the entrouge. When she finally confesses her feelings to Ichigo, all she gets in reply is that it is okay to have wrong feelings, thus outright stating that homosexuality is wrong. Then we have Franxx, facsimiles of Klaux. By making them strict constructs of binary pairing and intentionally extending it to ancient civilization of Klaux, we are being told that strict hetero cis normitivity is the way things are since olden times and should be followed even in far future. Nines and Virm therefore become the very caricature of left the right wing tries hard to portray. It is very apparent that nines are there to demonize transgenders and their affinity towards Papa to imply the collusion of some concocted Cultural Marxism that leads to this kind of behaviour

You aren't really analyzing Japanese culture, you are doing cultural imperialism, by imposing a American normative structure on them. You have to realize that your cultural norms aren't universal and do not grant you the theoretical basis for an objective judgement of the sort you are attempting. You are lead to erroneous conclusions because you use categorical enforcement that negates any archetypal construct that doesn't conform to your own presets.

The show is a ripoff of Evangelion mixed in with some Gundam, it's full of Moe-blob shit and bland characters as well as the kind shitty romance triangle that Evangelion specifically avoided for good reason. Honestly I never thought I would need to repost my breakdown of WHY Darling in the Franxx is shit but I guess I'll have to recover the archives and do that, just so some poor sap doesn't get suckered into watching this trashbin by the hype and the Studio Trigger logo.

The article is also pretty shit since it just says generic things about "anime over the 1970s and 80s" and goes out onto a tangent from the anime at hand.
