Hello and welcome comrades! This is the new /read/ thread.

>What is /read/?
</read/ is a collective of marxist reading groups, hailing from /edu/ and /GET/. We are split into various different reading groups, each with different interests, goals and schedules.

We're making a new thread to let everyone know that /read/ is still very much alive. In fact, we're inviting everyone to join in for our new batch of readings! Our groups are done with previous readings, so this is the perfect time for new members to join up!

As of today, May 30th 2021, the /sniff/ group is done reading volume 1 of Capital. We have a new batch of readings planned (more on that in the post below), and all are invited to join. Meanwhile, the /tilmeeth/ group is gearing up to read Capital, so if anyone missed out on the first round, this is your chance.

On the /sniff/ group's new reading list:

We've just finished reading volume 1 of Capital. Our plan now is to read that which we've nicknamed the "Class Struggle Trilogy", three works by Marx dealing with the same theme: the real politics of class struggle. The three works do this by analysing various events in the history of 19th century France. These works are:

>The Class Struggles in France, 1848 to 1850
>The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte
>The Civil War in France

The events discussed in the books range from the 1848 Revolution in France, to the 1852 reactionary coup by Louis Bonaparte, ending at the civil war and creation of the Paris Commune in 1871. These works (particularly the latter two) are very important for the study of revolutionary processes, and we're treating them as starting points to the reading of Lenin, who took these works as reference.

Right now we're planning on having our discussion on the Class Struggles in France, 1848-1850 on Sunday June 6th, that is, one week from now. The date might be postponed depending on how fast we manage to read this thing. If you show up late do not worry - I'd argue this week's book is an optional reading, not required.

Anyone interested in reading one of the most important works of political analysis written by Marx is welcome to join. We'll be taking this one slowly despite it not being long at all. The plan right now is to read it over the course of a few weeks.

So we just finished discussing Civil War in France. Meeting went quite well, interesting questions and points raised and we ended up going out on some good tangents. This concludes our readings of the works of Marx and Engels, at least for now. Next up we will be reading Lenin. We still have to decide on the full reading list, but we're starting with State and Revolution, and the meeting will be Sunday, August 8th, at 10 PM UTC. I repeat:

Troublesome times for this site, but we're carrying on the reading group alright. Tonight we had our discussion of Lenin's State and Revolution. Great book, great discussion. Seriously impressed by this one and it was very rewarding to read this book after having done Engels' "Origin of the Family…" and Marx's "18th Brumaire…" and "Civil War in France". State and Revolution is like the culmination of all of those.

Next up we will be reading "Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism". As usual, meetings are on our Matrix chat on Sundays at 10 PM UTC. It's getting late now so the website update with the ebooks will come tomorrow.
