I'm currently can't get enough of the revival of Happy Hardcore known as "gabberdisco". I would describe it as captchy upbeat techno with tons of sampling from pop music/media/memes. Haven't had this much fun in ages.

My heart with always belong to hardcore acid techno. The "acid" refers to the distinct sound the Roland TB-303 and similar bass synthesizers make when modulated while playing.

Maybe, the main guy behind the label was influential in the Frenchcore scene in the '00s and '10s. He felt like his stuff was getting too edgy and wanted to return to the wacky funtimes like on Mokum Records in the '90s.

I don't see his Gabber Disco stuff all that different from his other stuff he's done while calling himself Speed Freak. Here's a masterpiece from 2006 for example. The edge on his Speek Freak stuff has always been super tongue-in-cheek if you can recognize all the media where he grabs his samples from. He's used Postal Guy audio like in your link in something like four or five songs now. It's more like he's returning to his hyperactive rate of motif changeups for which he first started calling himself Speed Freak in the '90s and become absolutely fearless in the kind of cheese he experiments with now. Just the fact that he would throw something from a Parodius game into a hardcore track leaves a giant grin my face.

I do agree that both sounds (gabber and happy) were better intermixed back in the mid 90s, but I would not imply that Mokum was exclusively 'happy'.

Youtube recommended me a lot of Boris Brejcha one time who does minimal techno. Like the name says, it's characterized by a stripped-down aesthetic that exploits the use of repetition and understated development, like in minimal music. Doesn't sound like much, but this renders the techno a bit trippy. Here's a 2021 special edition mix of Boris and dozen other minimal techno artists.
