Mind Game Anime

Hello. I want some anime that have people attempting to outsmart each other as a major part of the show. I already watched Death Note, Code Geass, Hyouka, Classroom of the Elite, Kaiji, Akagi, No Game No Life (some of it was nonsense, but some of it was really impressive), The Promised Neverland, Legend of the Galactic Heroes (I am mentioning this one even though it wasn't mainly focused on mind games so nobody suggests it anyway), One Outs, Talentless Nana, Kakegurui and Zankyou no Terror (it focused on mind games at the start). Please tell me of more mind game anime.

X-Files

Now that the dust has settled, this show was pretty redpilled on real US government conspiracies. I can't quite decide on a burning question though. Was the exposure of these conspiracies by a popular television show a thorn in the side of spook agencies like the CIA, or was it more likely to be a continuation of Project Mockingbird (referenced in the show btw) discrediting conspiracy theories via association with fantastical fiction?

Is Chris Carter a friend or foe?

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (TSCC or TTSCC)

Whoever has been posting about this show, thanks but also fuck you. Why'd they have to cancel this show? It was fun and thrilling and sometimes surprisingly deep and charming/endearing. Summer Glau's character is one of the most fascinating and perfect fictional characters I've ever known. Sometimes I wish Terminator was real because of her even though it might mean the end of humanity.. *laments*

Media that couldn't be shown today.

Post any old media that couldn't be shown today. It's strange to me that people think of today's media environment has been so permissive when in the past there were far more edgy things being regularly distributed without any attention being given to it.

I'll go first. Nickelodeon, "you can't do that on television". I've never seen another show depict parents and adults in such a irredeemably negative cynical matter.
And it was in a very real and raw manner. The parents would openly state they hated their children, the arcade operator would constantly try to rip off his underage patron. The burger shack cook was depicted wearing a filthy, sunken in eyes, and and a 5 o'clock shadow. His restaurant was always infested with roaches.
There were ZERO adults or figures of authority that were trustworthy. Giving children the clear message that yes, they really are out to get you. A lot of shows in the 90's would claim to be deeply cynical, but this one was genuinely subversive.
I don't think you could make a show like this today that flat out says children should never trust adults, not even their parents. I've never seen a children's show like this again

If that song was updated to current year
what would the lyrics be

Here's the original lyrics for reference
https://genius.com/Billy-joel-we-didnt-start-the-fire-lyrics

It has a chorus and 5 verses

Keep the chorus
<We didn't start the fire
<It was always burning
<Since the world's been turning
<We didn't start the fire
<No, we didn't light it
<But we tried to fight it

but update the verses to contemporary relevant "keywords"

Why is the YT Trending tab full of such garbage?

Pretty much the title. I decided to check what was "trending" on YT and the result was picrel. 99% of these songs are horrible musically and visually. The majority have bourgeois and extremely sexist lyrics. Why is this shit trending? Why isn't there the same backlash against the messages of popular music as there is against other media?

This shit was fucking terrible

I know I am late to the party, but, holy shit this game was fucking horrible.
It probably needs no introduction, but, man this fucking combat system is horrible. It's like in the pursuit of trying to mesh together some kind of convoluted chimera of a combat system based on both action and nuance they achieved something that incentivizes neither.
The game looks really good, but, it's like it isn't optimized for anything. It stutters so fucking horribly it's really annoying.
The story itself is really good, but, that says nothing about the remake and just says that the original was actually on point as far as its story and analysis, but, basically everything the remake slapped ontop of the story is terrible: There's tons of just time wasting filler, the voice acting is shit, I mean, it's ok and drives the point home, but, the flow of the voice acting is not good and feels clumsy and also the original did not have the whole "uhhh but actually SMOLL LANDLORDS are good people don't worry capitalism ood actually!"

I just really hate this pos and I have never played ff7 completely before so now I am just trying to rush through the story so I can start over on the original again.

Hey you! Imagine it's Christmas/Kwanzaa/the Jew thing one year from now and you are sitting at the table with your family and you introduce your girlfriend/boyfriend to them. Let's talk about audio recognition and text-to-speech software, chatbots, and what other functions a robot friend should have. Clock? Vacuum cleaner?

I just want to make clear one thing right at the start: This is not a sexbot thread. Building a sexbot looks like an awesome quest to many, but I realized it's a pointless one because of Anon's Law: Any AI advanced enough to attract me like a human-flesh character wouldn't want to have sex with me anyway.

Minecraft /leftypol/ server thread

Since a lot of time has passed since the old thread was made and all the old servers apparently got nuked by the hosting service, I have decided to create a new one on the Aternos account that I have registered back in the Bunkerchan days. Just like the previous one, it runs on one of the newer versions (1.19.2) of the game with a simple custom modpack that contains tech mods like Mekanism and the Thermal series, as well as some that add new elements to the game world as a whole such as Biomes O' Plenty and Aquaculture. Some previous additions like Pam's Harvestcraft and Chisel had to be pruned however due to lack of a 1.19.x version or being too resource extensive.

Instructions on entering the new server:
>Download UltimMC https://nightly.link/UltimMC/Launcher/workflows/main/develop
>Download the modpack https://dataism-x.com/en/lykCjryezJzfyh4/file
>Extract the UltimMC archive anywhere you like
>Launch UltimMC
>Create an account record in the UltimMC accounts section in top right (no Microsoft account required)
>Install the modpack through Add instance > Import from .zip
>Launch the newly "LeftyCraft" created instance
>Add “leftycraft.aternos.me” into your server list and join the game

To start up the server in case it is down:
>Log into aternos.org with account “leftypoluser” (password: solidarityforever)
>Press the “Start” button
>Wait until the server status bar becomes green and says "Online"
>???

Have depictions of LGBTQ sexuality finally hit a limit with audiences. I always believed that the popularity of homosexuality in media was actually malicious especially from women. For straight women gay males are very often the perfect man. A male, often effeminate, that they can emotionally bond with that will never ever put demands on them sexually. Basically a man that friend zones himself that will never grow bitter. This is actually the template for boy band and their popularity but that's and of understandable because preteen girls are attracted to boys but find their sexuality intimidating. You're supposed to grow past this kek
Much like straight males' mythologization of lesbians, CIS women's interest in gay males is only in so far as it serves their own egos. They're not actually interested in these men as people, and the failure of this movie proves it.
I've only seen the previews but it stuck me as a very unapologetic depiction of an idealized gay romance from and for homosexual men. I didn't know about the explicit sex scenes but I find it interesting that for over a decade on social media women pilloried men that chaffed at homosexual characters and now that they have an opportunity to see a gay love scene they balk.
This has got to be the umpteenth movie that's tried to serve the woke market and crashed on the rocks. Maybe movie makers in the future can include some kind of social media cache for watching their movie like a badge that appears next to their Twitter handle, because social capital is what really motivated the meteoric rise of LGBTQ support in the mainstream.

Films You Just Watched Thread

Hello, the most recent movie threads have seemed a bit unfocused, this thread is for the discussion of movies we just watched and other anon's takes on them. So, without further ado I'll begin.

I just watched Parasite last night, it was pretty good I think, but not as cutting edge or witty as I was expecting. I thought it was a bit unfocused and threw a lot at the wall to see what stuck, but on the other hand, it was fun and more interesting than most. A solid 8/10.

I do an IMDB rating for each film I watch, for my own reference mostly, but you can see each film I watched lately and my rating if you're curious or want to ask about them. If other anons have something similar feel free to post.

Socialist Realism in Entertainment, A Failure?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLxYklZAnBs

How much power do you think entertainment has?

This video kinda got me thinking about Socialist Realism, Like sure the vid is teensy bit radlibby and silly in its conclusions in some places but whatever
I just am puzzled by how could socialist realism be a successful campaign in any aspect, I mean sure the projects under it, even those critiquing it are incredibly influential as opposed to the stuff made under capitalist realism

But I propose that is a matter of time, The earlier in time you exist, the more stuff you do is noteworthy
Anyways, I think even with socialist realism, The soviet union fell, Clearly it doesn't help prop up the system as the dangers to socialism exists in the real world in the form of opportunists and imperialists

My question is what level of censorship helps and what level doesn't?
Are all these anti-capitalist movies made under capitalism actually amount to any actual change?

If not,
Should a socialist society operate the same way?
Letting anti-socialist movies be made under socialism because they won't amount to socialism being toppled?

And at the end of the day does censorship in art actually a stain or just a thing that looks bad in retrospect when looked at by youtube video essays

Vaporwave is ultimately a celebration, not a satire, of capitalism

Yes, yes, it's ANOTHER thread about hauntological shit. But isn't vaporwave, by the process of aestheticization inherent in it, ultimately a celebration of all the soulless corporate trash it purports to poke fun at? I realize I'm generalizing somewhat and not all vaporwave necessarily has anything, positive or negative, to do with capitalism. But if you listen to something like Ferraro's Far Side Virtual, or Luxury Elite's TV Party, doesn't it conjure an image that seems genuinely desirable, even if it's empty? Even at its most uncanny (like a lot of the "broken transmission" subgenre) doesn't it aestheticize its subject matter and thus make it more bearable if not outright enjoyable? Isn't that why the aesthetic has taken off to begin with?

Is there any way to really pull off this "ironic" approach to music without ultimately producing either a celebration of what you're trying to attack or something that nobody actually wants to listen to? If we wanted to turn this method against capitalism could we instead create nostalgia not for the ultracapitalist 80s but for times of greater cooperation and a genuinely functioning society? Would there even be any point to doing so?

Red Metal

As an avid listener of metal, something that frustrates me is the prevalence of chuds and reactionaries in metal (especially black metal). The visibility of guys like Varg and Famine of Peste Noire infamy has colored the public perception of extreme metal as being the domain of edgelord fascists. What are some metal groups that could be said to be socialist, anarchist, or leftist in some manner?

To start things off, I'd highly recommend the Panopticon album "Kentucky," which is a BM album about the state's history with labor organizing among coal miners, as well as the coal industry's destruction of the state's natural beauty. It's not a perfect album by any means but the way it mixes BM with bluegrass is cool, plus it has an incredibly redpilled message.

Communist Avant-Garde

ITT we share communist avant-garde and discuss its meaning.

I will begin by submitting Arseny Avraamov and his Symphony Of Factory Sirens, composed for the fifth anniversary of the October Revolution and performed only twice, in Baku and Moscow. The composition marshaled the sounds of an entire city as its instruments, and thousands of people were required to successfully perform it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kq_7w9RHvpQ

Human beings assign meaning and symbolic value to sounds by the process of conscious interpretation. The sound of a police siren can be rendered in physical terms by tone, pitch, and volume; terms that do not represent meaning. Yet, the sound has a distinct meaning for humans who have lived in societies with a motorized police force. This is because humans have interpreted the sound by associating its physical characteristics with its social context. The sounds of every society are meaningful in this sense.

Bourgeois society has been the dominant class society since the 19th century. The unique characteristic of bourgeois society is its compulsion to constantly revolutionize itself, to generate ideology and to constantly expand production. This compulsion created modern industry, organized on the basis of commodity production and exchange. The ideological component of bourgeois production is called ‘capitalism’ . Capitalism is a social form and therefore a conscious experience, and sound is an important part of conscious experience. The sounds of bourgeois society take a distinct meaning that is evident to the individuals that live in it. All class societies utilize a mode of production that is socially antagonistic. The antagonism between classes is manifested in struggles for dominance between social classes in class societies. These struggles develop into social revolutions that overthrow existing relations of production, and substituting them with new relations.

The social revolution generated by the antagonisms of bourgeois society will produce a classless society, the communist society. The meaning of the sounds of capitalist society will be transformed according to their change in material and social context. Avraamov created a musical composition
representing that transformation, using as instruments the industry of bourgeois society. By arranging these elements: factory sirens, steam engines, the engines of vehicles, artillery, foghorns, and entire rifle divisions, Avraamov demonstrated the totality of the communist victory over capitalist society as a result of the October Revolution.

During a social revolution, individuals become agents of social change, and can consciously participate in the transformation of society. Avraamov was one of these individuals, who served as the Commissioner of Arts of the Republic for two years. The siren in the symphony of sirens, which previously represented the beginning and end of each workday in anarchic capitalist production, was turned into a instrument to be rearranged at will by the composer. The ability of the composer to manipulate the sounds of instruments at will reflects the communist reorganization of society that began in October 1917. Avraamov’s Symphony Of Factory Sirens is an interpretation of a communist revolution that the composer himself experienced and participated in. As a fragment of an emerging communist society, it should be an object of interest for all communists.

Good boards for musicians and music production?

Don't get me wrong guys, I love you all. But I'm looking for a more populated board to discuss music production. I want to get into making music using a DAW and I need to talk to people, who know this stuff. This place here isn't very populated, this is why I consider to look for a board which focuses solely on music production. Does anyone know a good board or forum for this purpose? Many thanks in advance!

Eastern fascist music is better than Western fascist music

Before any autist spergs out, no I'm not a fascist, I'm not saying fascism is good or anything like that. This is about the music they make (or quasi-fascists, nationalists, etc). I think we can all agree that the typical fascist music we are used to is awful. The music made by Western fascists such as in Nazi Germany or Francoist Spain is more often than not very boring, uninspiring, and repetitive. All those Nazi miltiary marches sound the same, they're all quite mediocre.

Horst Wessel Lied sucks ass, Erika, which is a song wehraboos soyface all over (no clue why) is also very mediocre, I don't understand how anyone could enjoy that song. Most Nazi songs are like this. Cara al Sol, a fascist anthem of the Francoists, is genuinely one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Look it up to see for yourself. And yes I know by saying Western fascists I'm generalizing a lot, but idgaf, the impression I get from them is that all their songs are very similar, bland military shit.

Now let's take a look at Eastern fascists, specifically from the Balkans (yes I know the Balkans are not Eastern Europe but it's not Western Europe either, ergo they go into the broader "Eastern world" for this analysis), from the Middle East, and the Caucasus.

Two Serbian songs I'd like to show you guys, I know most of you are already very familiar with turbofolk but first check out this Chetnik song, the original lyrics apparently were written in 1941 iirc but this version idk what year it's from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptfEU4KghHw&ab

There's something about this song. It's weirdly inspiring in a way, it has a good melody, good voice, overall pretty good song.

And coming back to turbofolk, I also want to post this shit. You all probably know this song by now, It's far more rightoid and unapolegitically so but it's still a good song imo. Again goes to show that Serbian rightwingers for whatever reason actually make good music, as opposed to other European rightoids, particularly Western Europeans
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETQmQ1Ixv5Y&ab

Moving on to the next song, a Turkish fascist song from the Grey Wolves. Again with this one, just like the first Chetnik song, this one inspires you. The melody, rhythm, it makes you want to go and fight for Turkey. I'm going to assume the translated lyrics are not the best so we can only base ourselves off of the vocals but they don't dissappoint. Can't really describe it any further, it's just a really good song imo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W2rBYmbY6w

For the last song, an Azeri song about, I'm assuming after looking at some translated lyrics, Karabakh belonging to Azerbaiyan or some shit like that, you know typical blood and soil shit. I don't know how to describe this song properly, it's a rap but also has a very nice melody and rhythm, can't really elaborate further than that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDc6iw2EeJs

To conclude this post, besides sharing some songs I think are pretty good, I wanted to see if we could have a discussion as to why these songs are better than typical fascist/quasi-fascist music. Is it actually a thing about Eastern vs Western fascism? Or something unrelated to the actual content of the songs/their creators?

Sun rises above the factory
But the rays don't make it to the street
Through the gates come the employees
Beat down and draggin' their feet
Lefties handin' pamphlets, workers comin' in
Two people on the pavement never be the same again
She placed it in his hand
Well they must have seen the sparks
Neither understands
What just happened to their hearts
Another mornin' of this place has ripped me out of my dreams
Realizin' life's a waste as the whistle blows off steam
One thing I'm betting on is nothin's ever gonna change
It's like our progress has just stalled and everyday's the same
She placed it in my hand
Co-workers seen the sparks
I couldn't understand
What just happened to my heart
Hello, my name is David, your name is Veronica
Let's be together, let's fall in love
Hello, my name is David, your name is Veronica
Let's be together, 'til the stars go out
Well all we need is for somethin' to give
The dam bursts open, we suddenly live
The boot off my throat, life is returning
The boot off my throat, let's all emote
Dawn breaks across this town and a new dawn breaks for me
Take the pains of the underclass
Tryin' to smile through gritted teeth
We must now all join up and throw off the shackles of shame
United we can't be defeated
They shall hear us proclaim
I placed it in his hand
Comrades seen the sparks
Couldn't understand what happened to my heart
Hello, your name is David, I am Veronica
Let's be together, until the water swallows us
Hello, you must be David, I am Veronica
Let's be together, until we're all finally crushed
Well all we need is for somethin' to give
The dam bursts open, we suddenly live
The boot off my throat, life is returning
The boot off my throat, let's emote
Well all we need is for somethin' to give
The dam bursts open, we suddenly live
The boot off my throat, life is returning
The boot off my throat, let's emote

Denpa music thread

Denpa(電波) is a Japanese subculture characterized by bizarre and eerie themes. It originally began as a derogative term for mentally deranged behavior, but over the 1990s was adapted by otaku into their culture. In part, through artistic expression within manga, anime and visual novels, and also separately as a genre of cute and quirky music.

I can't resist wanting to dance to cumbia (I can't dance, yet). It often has two of my favorite instruments, trumpets and accordion. And many cumbias have a melancholic or sad melody, in my opinion, which I love as well. But every single one of them makes me wanna DANCE.

It's kinda sad that cumbia is seen more as a meme or liked ironically by people my age and younger. Nowadays it seems like only older people appreciate it. I just wanna share my love for cumbia.

Music Theory

I want to understand how you're supposed to play songs on piano. From what I've seen so far, you play the melody with one hand and with the other hand you play the chords, either as full chords or arpeggios. But how do you know which chords you have to play to fit a certain melody?

I already know a bit of music theory so I tried figuring it out on my own. I looked up Katyusha on piano to see which chords are played.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gMx_Yiut9w

The song is in D minor, and they play the chords in this order:
Dmin x3
Amaj 2nd inversion x4 (Db E A)
Dmin x 2
Fmaj 1st inv. (C F A)
Gmin 1st inv. (D G Bb)
Dmin, Gmin 1st inv. , Dmin, Amaj inv. , Dmin.

I assume that some chords are inverted so that the transition between them is smoother.

They play the same melody on the right hand side throughout the video, but in the beginning they only play the root notes of the chords with their left hand, after that they play the chords in different ways, and then they play the complete triads. And this is my question, how do you know which chord progression fits over a melody?

I tried to see if the chord degrees had anything to do with it. The chords in the key of D minor should be: Dmin (i), Edim (ii dim), Fmaj (III), Gmin (IV), Amin (v), Bbmaj (VI), Cmaj (VII). I imagined in simpler songs like this one you only needed to play chords from the key, but here they use an Amaj (A Db E) instead of an Amin (A C E), and I listened to the song with both an Amin and an Amaj, and I think it sounds better with the Amaj. I guess because when a G is played in the melody over the Amaj it forms an Amaj7 which creates more tension.

I also tried writing the chord progression:
i - i - i - V
V - V - V - i
i - III - iv - i
iv - i - V - i
but I can't really tell if this has anything to do with the melody.

So if I take another simple melody like Bella Ciao for example, can I figure out what chords to play from just that?
Or do I just try to see which chords sound good over it?

I guess what I want to know is in which way the notes in the melody relate to the notes in the chord progression?

>tldr: how does music work

The only valid perspective about it I accept and understand is from the worker perspective where an indie artist can get their music stolen and profited off by somebody more famous and powerful since we live in capitalism and music can be capitalized on.

The ultimate purpose of music is supposed to make each other feel. I hate its commodification and the problems that has caused to it.

Also can anybody post me that apu staja picture where he's singing with headphones?

Based God appreciation thread

Lil B is the greatest rapper in history and I've spent over six hours to explain why.

If you require a fine tuned philosophical explanation of why Lil B is the greatest rapper of all time, it isn't worth being explained to you. Brevity is the soul of wit. He has made a larger quantity of music, all free, than almost any musician in such a short period of time. Very few of his tracks aren't original in some manner whether it be in their interaction with the beats, some unexpressed/rarely expressed societal consideration shown in various lights that range from exaggeration, truth, storytelling, lyrical consideration, ironical mockery, and sheer existence. when someone is surprised it has been neurologically shown that they are more prepared to intake new information, so his spectrum works on a few levels beyond originality for the sake of creativity. Lil B is the god of positivity, his music is beyond comprehension. Lil B is one of the smartest rappers of all time; this man has done lectures at Harvard. Lil B is a talented artist who likes to make goofy ass songs and enjoy himself. People are drawn to his likeable personality and sheer majesticness. Lil B is the Based God; layers upon layers and we are yet to find his mantle. What follows is an in-depth analysis of just one of the many masterpieces Lil B has created. Titled "Lil B - No Black Person Is Ugly MUSIC VIDEO MOST POWERFUL SONG OF THE DECADE?" Let's begin at the beggining of the song. The lyrics state: "No black person is ugly No black person is ugly No black person is ugly No black person is ugly" Throughout history, Black people have had to put up with mistreatment by mainly white people. The Based God is reminding us that Black people are not ugly at all and should be treated better and not judged based on the colour of their skin.
The fact that The Based God repeats this 4 times could show the desperation in the message that he is trying to convey. He wants this message to stay in people's heads so everybody knows that black people are not ugly.
Lil B then begins his first verse with:
"Make another dime a day, tryna make it rhyme away
Sometime my skin is the reason I'm alive today"
A lot of today’s rappers are admittedly in the industry for the pure sake of making money. Lil B, however, could care less about the “dime a day” he makes from rapping; what he really cares about is speaking out against racism and rhyming away the prejudice that affects African Americans to this very day; all whilst empowering who he is in the second line rather than any wealth he has.
We then delve into the next chunk of lines:
"Bigger than just a race, no card, just a race
No smile, fix your face, we all live in this place
Tryna make peace with the police
I'm not on probation so why you out asking me
This is not just about black, or wasn't about black
When we talk about that you wonder why I talk back"
Here ‘B is trying to explain that race should not be about 'privilege’. At many points in time, people use excuses like The Race Card, Playing the race card is an idiomatic phrase that refers to exploitation of either racist or anti-racist attitudes by accusing others of racism.
Lil B states that The Black community needs to be “bigger” than using The Race Card as a justification to things and eliminate it all together.
Lil B always has and always will support positive messages through his music, even if that means supporting peace with the very thing that most rappers have come to despise.
This fits the theme of the song because for decades, police officers have been accused of profiling against black people, making headlines on numerous occasions.
The last three lines fit in with the common black stereotype present in the US, the constant assumption that any black male in a crime ridden area must be on some kind of probation.
How could one even think that Lil B is on probation, he is the epitome of positivity.

Following all of this of course is:
"My English not perfect, I'm not the best at school
But understand I'm (?), I love life's rules
Homeless people will even give me money, I'm too real for the game
Reflection of the fame
I got cash, I hide all the pain
Your skin black people, they won't say a thing
That drama is a shame
They wanna kill you before they even know your name"
At the start Lil B knows that this line should be “My English is not perfect” and he knows that English is just another way that he is oppressed and put into the undercaste. He makes the same clever play in the next line “I’m not the best at school” intentionally leaving words out to resist the hegemonic narrative that white English is the English and that those who do not speak it are unintelligent or uneducated. This line will go over most people’s heads and is yet another reason why this song is so powerfully subversive. Lil B then reminds us that he didn’t attend a college or university (although he went to the high schools Albany & Berkeley).
The Based God then teaches us that homeless people can often be the most generous. “Feed the needy not the greedy”. Of course the cash lyric is to shine light on the fact that It is much more difficult for black Americans to achieve the wealth that white Americans have over history. For example, statistically in 2015, a white person with a high school diploma has a higher income than a black person with a bachelor’s degree. At the same time that line expresses how Lil B tries to hide his pain from his fans and the public but can’t maintain the front.
In the past and even in the present day, there have been people who have targeted black people in violent acts or have tried to farm black people just because of the colour of their skin. Think about the Trayvon Martin incident.
The racist people don’t know the stories behind the people they are targeting and don’t even know about their lives or even their names but they are just treated badly because they are black people living in a society where some people, to this day, remain racist.

Deep stuff from the Based God.
The Hook Begins:
"Sunshine, sunshine, lookin' for the sunshine"
Lil B is telling people to look for the sunshine, or rather, the good that is within people as opposed to judging them before you get to know them. Sunshine represents the bright side of things and Lil B is in a quest to persuade others to uncover this bright side in other people prior to making judgment.
"No black is person is ugly, don't say it one time
No black is person is ugly, don't say it one time
No black is person is ugly, don't say it one time"
The repition of this lyric, much like the intro of the song, conveys Lil B’s importance of this message. Said 22 times throughout the song, Lil B wants convey this message of not judging a book by its cover and asks the listener to not immediately assume a person is “ugly” based upon their race or appearance.

“Don’t say it one time” is used doubly as a call for listeners to never say that a “black person is ugly” as well as playing off of the fact that he repeats this verse, not just saying it a single time.
With the first interpretation of the “don’t say it one time in mind”, it’s interesting to note that the repetition of this line completely contradicts his point of never saying what he’s saying. Could this be purposeful irony, a satire noting the fact that even with this message, things will never change and people will always continue to say it, regardless of what he preaches? You decide.
Verse 2 is a doozy so I'll break it down as much as I can:
"I'm sorta like a panther, I'm silent like the underground"
The Black Panther Party or BPP was an organization in the 1960s and 70s in the United States that believed in more extreme tactics to achieve equality for black people in America. They supported Martin Luther King Jr’s ideas, but believed that his nonviolent approach was ineffective. Here Lil B states that he’s Panther-like in his beliefs and clearly believes that racial profiling still exists in modern-America.
"Dealing with the trials of life, how did we get here today?"
In this line, Lil B decides to acknowledge the numerous obstacles he has faced in life, while reflecting on how these very same obstacles have shaped the image of our society today
"Black people not showed in the media"
Based God also touches on this later in the song and in the music video. He believes that black people are not shown enough on the news or in magazines, perhaps because the media believes them to be ugly, which ties back to the hook and title of this track. Often times the media reports on Black people in a negative light doing crimes, riots, and etc. Or portray them in a negative stereotype in films and TVs where they’re cast as the thugs, pushers, pimps, maid, hood rats, angry Black and etc. Therefore, they never show the real Black people as in strong, beautiful, creative, intelligent and etc.
"I was told that you gotta afro, that you gotta big nose
That your lips are too big, that you're talking low"
Lil B tells of all the aesthetic stereotypes of black people that he faced growing up, and the misconceptions of these being what all black people must look and talk like.
"My people understand, so why you don't know?
It's just communication
If we all sat down and got past the revelations"
This is all about coming together and speaking to eachother. No person being more human than the other. Advising bigotry to be countered with knowledge and education of the world and language blacks encompass. Revelations is also the last book in the bible which talks about the end of mankind. 'B is saying for humans to go beyond the end and ultimately progress.
"The future of the people
Advancement, tryna take chances, the media"
More of the same from the last lines while adding that advancement, an honest solution, can only arise from communication; an honest conversation.
"Propaganda, it slandered the black beauty
I'm not stupid, I see it everyday"
Lil B is probably referring to figures and artwork popular in the United States in the late 19th century and early 20th century which portrayed African Americans as a completely black, featureless people who greatly enjoyed watermelons.
Artwork like this tarnished the reputation of black people and ultimately led to the creation of stereotypes that still exist today.
"They got shows like Jailbreak but won't help you get straight"
This could be interpreted in 2 ways.
One :Based God is stating that they promote criminal activity yet won’t give those with such backgrounds a second chance.
Two: Based God may be speaking about Prison Break which is a much more famous show then Jailbreak, considering Jailbreak is an English show
“Get straight” also means managing addiction through counseling, support groups, job security, food security, having a purpose, and reclaiming a sense of optimism. Addiction does not happen in a vacuum. One of the most cruel aspects of the New Jim Crow is the underfunding of things black people need to survive, live with, and thrive past addiction while at the same time there’s always money for putting a person in jail ($40,000 a year on average).
"I'm tryna see black on more magazines"
Lil B wants to see more Africans on magazines and not in other negatively portrayed media outlets like Police Blotters or the 6 o-clock news; he wants to see them being praised not disgraced.
"On the streets, the hoods that you're claimin'
Never been racist so I understand if you wanted
Try to change places
I've seen the other side and I know that's amazin'"
Here he's alluding to the want in many underpriveledged black homes to get out of their situation. The Based God has seen and felt, in a sense, what white privilege is like because of his status, money, fame, etc. He's showing understanding for that want and exclaiming that there needs to be more energy poured into making it a reality for his brother's and sisters.
"They want you to work to enslave you
They try to trick you to think they made you"
This is possibly the most powerful line in the song and a possible hint at some history here:
Lil B may be hinting at the Slave era where blacks were brought from Africa to work on different plantations across The Western Hemisphere.
Statistics show us that blacks struggle more socioeconomically; this causes a typical reaction to what is called Strain Theory (among many other theories) which states that it basically becomes more prevalent for underprivileged individuals to commit crime.
Often, “white society” praises desegregation and the events that led up to the civil rights movement but many, even today still feel that white society was built to keep minorities like blacks down.

Hence here, Lil B uses the term they try to trick Blacks to thinking they can have an equal life as others when in fact, it is not at all the same.
Added to the fact that the uber capitalist nature of the West where they commercialize many things to appear to the masses. Therefore giving people that shouldn’t buy what they can’t afford a credit line or loan to always make sure (enslave) they keep on working to pay back what they own. Bascially trick them into a system that they never could win. It’s a an illusion of freedom that there are choices. Lil B is feeding us the knowledge to fight back with this.
"Y'all got a voice, stand up against violence
If it's close to your home, stand up against rape
No means no,"
You may feel frustrated or be disenfranchised (due to felony laws), but you have a voice which can resist the New Jim Crow which resist rape culture which can resist the violence and the systems of oppression.
Lil B is taking a steadfast position against rape. No means no, and that’s it.
He might have been influenced by a discussion about rape he had on twitter with his fans.
"clean up the streets
You feel me? And stop that beef
Hands up for peace on the streets"
Lil B uses the last few bars of his song to indicate a common, overgeneralized issue that plagues the black community. It is a stigma that Blacks are mainly the minority group involved with drugs on the street and street-violence, including black on black crime. This is Lil B’s call to arms to end all of this negativity that surrounds blacks as a group. A double entendre, second meaning is putting up hands when you get pointed at with a "PIECE".
The hook repeats and the song slowly begins to fade.
This song serves as a battle cry, a sombrer soliloquy and a reflection of Lil B's most powerful thoughts. We have an obligation to maintain peace, that is what he's trying to get us to understand. Amidst the often bleak reality of the world we live in, sunshine will break our cloudy day and lead to more beautiful tomorrow. The sunshine in us that is. Love your fellow man, we are all on the road of life with the same number of questions. When we see the beauty in others, it will help us to an answer for a better tomorrow. Thank you Based God, please fuck my bitch.

hip hop 2000s vs now

I know this may sound like a boomer take but is it weird that I prefer sample based hiphop beats of the 90s and 2000s over the generic trap beats and soulless generated EDM style beats created by an executive at Atlantic records or something? Producers like Dre, J Dilla, Nujabes had 100% more rememberable beats than whatever lil <whoever> raps over today.

Why did sample based hiphop/rnb fall out of style? is the licensing just too expensive? Maybe this is why mixtapes are better than actual albums because they don't worry about profits.

Discussion: Arts under Ideology

This thread is not for dumping art, but feel free to use it to supplement your points.
How do you believe a different political ideology, such as forms of socialism, may affect art nowadays?

For example, George Lucas discusses the artistic limitations of the commerce-driven film making industry of America, describing it as less free than the anti-anti-government limitations of the Soviet film industry: >>>/leftypol/40379

Some art industries, like the US televised animation industry, have moved away from more high-effort styles, settling into the flat digital style we see universally now (contrasted not only with traditional cel and stop-motion styles on the pre-2000s, but also with early 2000s shows with hand-painted backgrounds and more fluid animation) as it approaches the similar generic industrial feel of the music industry.
Is there reason to believe a socialist, communist or anti-capitalist society would avoid most of the quality-of-life pitfalls of the industrialization of art?

On the other hand, I have read accusations that communism such as that of some Soviet eras encouraged arts that emphasized realism, or minimalism and practicality, at the expense of culture and soul (an obvious example may be brutalist architecture, and the iconic geometric style seen in many propaganda posters)

Reading

How much do you guys read a day (time, pages)? What do you consider ideal? Do you devote markedly more time/note-taking to theory/philosophy per page than other non-fiction or they pretty much the same?

Reading for the first time in years, I'm not really sure what I should be aiming for as a baseline, especially since my schedule is pretty open. I'm reading a rather long history book at the moment at the rate of about 20-50 pages a day, yet it takes me hours to get through due to extensive note-taking and writing down words I want to commit to memory. I enjoy it and it seems to pay off, but I can't deny it's almost prohibitively meticulous. There's so much I want to read between now and this time next year that I'll never get to if I keep this pace. Just wanna get a ballpark from you guys.

Also discuss whatever you're reading now, plan to read, other questions you have about reading, note-taking, and so on that isn't fit for /edu/. OP is just a springboard.

TENET

Spoilers obviously
Was this Nolan's most reactionary film yet? The message of the film appears to be that future generations are all entitled brats who want to destroy the world to save themselves. The past should be preserved quite literally in this case at the expense of the future, who are all going to die of global warming. I think the future generations are right in this case. Fuck the boomers, global warming was their fault, and they would not hesitate to kill everyone before to save themselves so why should they?

Seemed like some references to the whole 'confederate statue' thing as well. This is the same guy who defended torture and mass surveillance. Elizabeth Debicki was hot as always though. Worth watching the movie just for her. That whole subplot was weird though, she didn't want to leave her abusive husband because he'd report her for art forgery? The level of threat there was not believable enough.

The movie as a movie is entertaining enough to watch at least once. The gimmick is enough to hold it up. I think everyone complaining that the sound mixing was too shit to hear anything is too focused on trying to understand something that's mostly an excuse for neat visual set pieces. That said, the climax of the film in that final battle was also the weakest part of the movie. It was difficult to tell who was shooting who and it looked like a scene out of inception.

Speaking of which I have trouble ranking this above or below inception. Inception had a stronger emotional core, Cobb was more of a character than "The Protagonist" but on the flipside(hah), Inception was still suffering from some halfway bullshit in terms of pacing. Rewatching that movie, it can drag heavily when they do exposition for an entire scene. In Tenet, Nolan and his editors seem to have perfected a style where every scene doesn't drag even though it can be exposition heavy.

This can be to a fault – the already mentioned plot point that future generations are going to invert the entire flow of time in a last ditch attempt to escape the end of the world due to climate change – is something that in any other movie would be treated as a major revelation. You'd have a scene of the main characters reacting to the news and thinking through the implications. The pacing in this movie is so scene-to-scene though that it's only explored once at the very end by the antagonist. Nolan leaves a lot of meat on the bone.

Which again, is why everyone trying to nitpick about the details of the inverted time mechanics, or complaining about the sound mixing, is missing the point. It's mostly an excuse for a cinematic ride, turn your brain off. When the movie's over and you turn it back on, you'll realize the zoomers did nothing wrong. If the boomer conception of the past and traditions have to be destroyed to ensure the future, so be it.

I'm thinking of ending things is a very liberal movie

I had to just vent this somewhere. Spoilers below of course.

Overall this is a good movie, I think it did what it set out to do quite well, but it is basically a reactionary and insular view of existential dread and depression through aging.

The director is actually very forthcoming about what the film is "really" about, so there isn't much interpretation except death of the author alternate versions of what the movie was about. Kaufman said the movie is mostly the fantasies of the janitor, who is kind of trying to escape his regret and depression by imagining a better life. But in the process, he is basically so depressed and broken that he can't even achieve that. Kaufman kind of suggests he is interested in a wider notion that it can't be achieved at all, but within the movie it is specifically the janitor who can't fantasize. His own fantasy girlfriend kind of looks down on him, isn't totally interested in him, wants to leave him. He can't decide what her name is, how they met, what her career is. He keeps changing his mind about what happens on the night that they go meet his parents. He even inserts himself into his own fantasy as a creep, when the girl and the janitor's younger self kiss in the car and suddenly the younger self notices the janitor peering at them and rages that there is a pervert watching them. Ultimately the movie ends with the janitor killing himself by getting in his car during the blizzard and not turning it on.

So maybe it is obvious why this movie feels like it has a very liberal or even reactionary message, but I'll spell it out anyways. The director, Kaufman, is kind of a pretentious guy. I like a lot of his movies, but he is very concerned with existential crises and memory and identity and stuff. He is a good filmmaker, but I want to highlight how his focus is kind of idealist. I think he has very metaphysical notions of what drives human beings to behave and think the way they do, so to him this movie isn't about a depressed janitor so much as about the human condition. However, the movie is literally about a depressed janitor. Not only that, but the movie has several key lines in it that feel like they almost directly confront and endorse the concrete form the movie takes.

Basically, the movie explores this guy's regret and depression by kind of suggesting that there is no resolution to it, it is just a part of the human condition to have regrets and fear aging. The viewer just watches it to feel the pain of the janitor and maybe cry about how cruel the universe is. In particular there is a line that is stated after the janitor goes in his car to die and starts hallucinating the pig with a maggot infested belly. This is a callback to earlier in the film when he tells his fantasy girlfriend that some pigs died on his farm a long time ago when the family found their bellies were infested with maggots, and they were being "eaten alive". So he hallucinates himself following the pig back into the school, and the pig reassures him that everything is going to be ok, we are all actually the same, and that he basically shouldn't fight his regret and depression because "somebody has to be the maggot infested pig".

This is at the very end of the movie, maybe the last 15 minutes, and it feels like the capstone message to the whole thing. Ultimately what the movie is about is the regret and depression of an extremely unaccomplished and lonely man at the bottom of society, and the movie tells you "it's ok, this is just the way the universe works. You were just born as the maggot infested pig. But don't worry, we are all made of the same dirt". And then the audience nods and cries and says the movie was very deep.

But the movie has a clear ideology. What is "sad" about the movie is the defeat of hope and the acceptance of that defeat. The movie isn't giving you any other message about suicide or even the wider context of this man's life. In fact, he really is barely a character for how indulgent it is of his mental state. He really is just a blank sad guy, and we get some glimpses into the fact he grew up on a farm or that his parents probably died of dementia, but nothing that is too revealing. We aren't really sure if he was even actually a physicist or he made that up as a part of his fantasy. He is just a sad old loser janitor guy.

So it obfuscates a message of the acceptance of the existence of this kind of regret, defeat of hope, of people being able to continue living but being forgotten and neglected beyond their utility in their jobs at the bottom of society, and it just suggests that this is the eternal human condition. The pig directly tells him that somebody has to be in his situation, but he can basically take comfort in knowing that even the person he wishes he was would die and turn to the same dirt. And while there is some truth that again, everybody grapples with existential dread from aging, the concrete form the movie took was all revolving around these other themes. The guy was a loser, he was at the bottom of society, he was forgotten and socially neglected.

So the concrete experience of the movie has become a bunch of people in the society that may produce this kind of person simply consuming a piece of media making them feel sad about it in a matter of fact way. Like it is a kind of emotionally or intellectually sophisticated piece of fiction that allows the liberal subject to view the horror of a person in their own world suffering from things very rooted in that world, and cry about it and say "it couldn't have been any other way, and understanding that makes me feel as though I've understood the universe".

Horror discussion from a leftist perspective

I've seen only a few other threads about horror on here and they seemed too specific, so I thought I'd make a broader one.

How do you feel about the current state of horror media? To me it seems at it's always been in a way; a mixed bag. However I feel like I've noticed this trend and, correct me if you think I'm wrong, a lot of more successful recent horror seems to be more creator-driven than in the past.

This is natural I think, as the internet has opened a lot of opportunities for more unique visions and riskier decisions that large studios would otherwise reject.

In a strange sort of symbiosis, though, these large studios attempt to acquire these successful creators and even properties for themselves; see the phenomenon of Slenderman for example. Once an entirely community made, solely internet creation has gotten several of his own movies, and has by and large become an 'artifact' of sorts of 2010's-era web. Studios cannibalize these unique properties and, once they've made some modicum of a profit, utterly destroy the integrity of them, leaving communities to look for the next big thing in horror.

With that aside, feel free to discuss almost literally anything horror related here; movies, books, ARGs, games, creepypasta (the rare good kind, if you can find any).

So my grandma lived in Lithuania back when it was an SSR (She says she was born right after ww2 for reference) and she liked the movies there, from what I can gather they were family friendly affairs similar to the first pirates of the carribean in tone, any comments and maybe recomendations for old soviete media?

Discuss capeshit
I'll admit I hate Marvel films, first off they're some of the glowies films out there, every single one fellates the Pentagon. The plots are almost all identical, filled with general pro-porky propaganda. The jokes are overdone and stale, literally Adam Sandler humor. The CIA is shit for such expensive productions. The characters are getting stale. Fuck these movies, death of cinema shit piles.

Why were the 80s such a good decade for horror compared to before or since?

Before anyone says it
Yes
Obviously most horror films from the 80s were shit, as with most movies in any decade

However, I do have to say that the 80s seem like the horror decade, the decade that set most of the new trends for horror and introduced the most classics, while, IMO the 2010s were the second best decade for horror, they're still far-outstripped by the 80s, why?

How does Leftypol feel about Rick and Morty?

Tbh I liked it at first but imo Rick is too much of an unlikable sociopath, Jerry is too pathetic, the show comes off as simultaneously too self-important and too mocking of its fans who overrate it.
Nonetheless it's overrated with absolutely autistic fans, and the whole sechzuan debacle, my God….

A S C E T I C I S M

I don’t know is that a good idea to post this on that board, but I will try…

For some time I thought about the rightness to renounce certain forms of consumption as part of the fight against capitalism. I am able to understand that there are things that cannot be done without buying as new products, generating profit for private entrepreneurs, and they are needed in today's world. However, in my opinion, a consistent socialist should not feed this monster more than necessary. There is no need to buy an iPhone, coffee at Starbucks or a burger at McDonalds. It is worth mentioning some tips on how to survive in this mess. Every socialist should, in some sense be an ascetic.

- You don't need a smartphone if you have a laptop. A regular cell phone should be enough, today they have an internet browser installed to check basic things. And running applications from android or Ios is possible through PC emulators. Android applications can be downloaded without a Google account here:

-You don't need new clothes. Today's second hand shops have good quality textiles. It is worth mentioning that today's clothes are made of low quality fabrics and fibers that tend to be easily damaged. And the dyes used in them are often harmful to the skin and are poorly primed, which causes the color to wash quickly. It is worth mentioning here that it is good not to wear clothes with visible manufacturer logos. Why should you be an ad as a socialist? It is worth decontaminating them after buying clothes. They can be boiled in a suitable powder or treated with an ozone generator (highly recommended during a pandemic).

- Do you furnish the house? Take a look around the local flea market for old furniture. Often, such furniture is made of pure wood (not woodlike materials), and their presence and condition proves their strength. Be careful only on furniture that may have a bark beetle. Removing it with special chemistry is an additional expense.

- Food. Look for small food stores, these are usually run by the family, or if you live in the countryside you can get along with local farmers running small farms. It is worth having your own garden. The best idea if you live in a city is to grow your own perennial herbs in pots.

- You don't need a car. Today's public transport will take you anywhere you want, cheaper than if you bought fuel every time. However, this issue is very subjective and depends on many other factors.

- Many electronics today are worth buying as used, often these antiques work for a very long time. For example, I'm currently using a 20-year-old microwave. The only devices that are not worth investing in are old computers and all Smart electronics due to their collection of quite sensitive data. Many people think that to get rid of the virus from a used computer, it is enough to replace the hard disk. This is a mistake - there are also viruses in the bios.

- Use open source software. Many of them are doing great as an alternative to commercial software.

- Cook dishes instead of ordering.

- It is worth thinking about the production of cleaning products, it is not difficult. However, if you can't, then you should think about using ordinary bar soap for a bath or shower. And if you need something to clean your windows, a vinegar and water mixture is all you need. For washing the bathroom - baking soda. For washing clothes - a laundry ball, which is much more effective than powder.

Do you have any other recommendations, comrades?

/leftypol/ TV

We can watch stuff together on cytube. The nazis have their own channel, why shouldn't we?https://www.cytu.be/r/classwarRight now there are prolekult documentaries on, some Soviet kinos, random classics, basically stuff I could find on youtube. But I will be uploading movies as time goes on.>Why does it take long to upload a movie?Movies are hosted on google drive. Google has an algorithm that compares the hashes of uploaded videos to hashes of known pirated copies of movies. So public torrent releases that you find on rarbg and tpb get flagged quickly and removed. To avoid this, a downloaded movie has to be transcoded (I only have a 4c/4t ryzen 3200g). The movie is then uploaded to google drive (this is the part that takes the least amount of time) and once it is uploaded Google has to process the video so that it can be streamed/watched (this can take anywhere from an hour to a day).Feel free to suggest movies and shows you'd like to see and I will slowly add them.If you register your nick with cytube (no email required, just username and password) I'll make you a mod so that you can adjust the playlist, change movies, etc.

Seventeen Moments of Spring

This Soviet TV series is probably the best TV show ever made. It is pure кино and deeply anti-fascist, anti-imperialist, and anti-USA. It's about a Soviet spy sabotaging peace talks between the OSS and Himmler (to allow the USA and Nazi Germany to team up on the USSR). It was made at the request of the head of the KGB. Spooky movies for Samhain!

Happy halloween fellas (not for me because i'm not doing anything particularly fun or exciting today). I came up with a list of movies you might wanna watch today. Suggested by other people of course.I haven't seen most of these movies in this list, but these are supposed to be good spooky movies/documentaries.Documentaries:Wild wild countryGoing ClearJesus Camp (i saw this one, it's pretty good)JonestownHoly HellKentucky Teenage Vampires https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWclRSulGFQ[Embed]The KeepersWe Need To Talk About KevinMovies:The Hostel - I saw it, it didn't scare me much. It might appeal to other people though. It's more of a "getting kidnapped and raped a brutally murdered" kind of thing.Angel HeartThe Fourth Kind - Only saw it partially, i think it maybe had some spooky scenes but it was years ago and i need to rewatch.Noroi The Curse - I actually saw the full thing. I highly recommend it, subbed of course because dubbed japanese entertainment loses the emotion in the voice.La Voyage Dans La LunThe Demonic Tapes (british horror film)Ju-on the grudge (the japanese version) - I saw this one too, but don't remember enough to tell you how good it was.ShutterAntichrist (the film)Annihilation ( was interested in it a few months ago, it had some legit unsettling shit in it, but i can't see how it'd be a full on horror thing since some of it seems too artsy)AuditionA Tale of Two SistersThe Thing (the original not the prequel)The Exorcist (maybe that's a normie movie, i don't know, i haven't seen it but it's gotten a lot of praise over the years)Aside from that list you should watch the poughkeepsie tapes. It's pretty good. Also give REC a try. Not Quarantine though, REC. Also the original blair witch project. That's all i got.

Hi /Games/. Tired of being the same kind of talky-talk board? Want to be a Get Shit Done Board like the imageboards of yore?

Why not help in creating a leftist post-apocalyptic community for Catacylsm:DDA, a singleplayer roguelike-like survival game? It could act as propaganda, that is to say nothing obvious and not just having the communists as the good guys but that could leave players walking away thinking 'huh, maybe some of my ideas about leftism/communism were wrong/unfounded.'

You don't need any knwoledge to help, just your ideas and a willingness to learn simple markup ( JSON ) if you would like to write data.

Mostly right now I am looking for Lore, how the group came together, interesting leftist characters, backstories, mission ideas, anything.

obviously we will have to add our mascot as a character so what kind of stats and proficiencies would Alunya have? If she cannot have cat ears what would be next best thing? Wolfs?

Elaborated: You are not only a worker at a train station but a revolutionary. One day, you find Stalin alone on a bench. Not recognizing him or her, you go up to them and talk to them about their troubles, and end up kissing under the moonlight. A few years later, Stalin becomes dictator of the soviet union and you recognize your old flame and decide to try your hardest to reclaim your waifu!
