This Soviet TV series is probably the best TV show ever made. It is pure кино and deeply anti-fascist, anti-imperialist, and anti-USA. It's about a Soviet spy sabotaging peace talks between the OSS and Himmler (to allow the USA and Nazi Germany to team up on the USSR). It was made at the request of the head of the KGB. The tension and drama in this show is outstanding!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZhgXs_iFRs&list=PLHiAMOiVIvsD2u8g0RLwvdRScEe9yiUr5&index=2&t=0s

Finished the first two episodes. I wasn't expecting it to be so good. The only downside for me are the newsreel and the narrator's voice who sounds incredibly bored.

Sadly don't have much to add about 17 moments of Spring (since everything I know and have on it is in Russian).I do know of a film called Cross of Ironhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_IronIt's interesting but still has some anti-soviet tones sadly.

This is one of my favorite SF films period. The social commentary is a subtle as a brick, but it's still really atmospheric and inventive. Just totally nutty worldbuilding that could never come out of Hollywood.

This isn't an action packed burger movie. It is a very noir spy drama with historical context.

For a more fast-paced spy film of similar type watch Sword and Shield (1968).

A spy game similar to Hitman except with less assassination and more intelligence gathering. Adding in some elements of Sword & Shield would be useful as well. An esoteric spy game.

It should have a system that measures how close you are to being caught by someone. So whenever you do espionage actions, you leave some kind of trail unless you cover it up properly. Each different character accumulates tokens based on espionage actions they saw you do, and how suspicious the actions are. And can copy the tokens to each other by talking. If the tokens accumulate past a certain level, they will want to interrogate you.

The single most realistic and despicable character. He's not even a fascist, just a bastard betraying people for a living.

Quote from the Soviet film "The Great Citizen" (1937):
"Oh, twenty years after a GOOD WAR, get out and take a look at the Soviet Union - composed of lets say thirty or forty republics."

On January 1, 1937 as part of the so-called USSR there were only 11 republics, implying that that USSR has planned to annex at least 20 European states during WW2. Communist propaganda also portrayed total war as a noble fight for internationalism.

After the war the propaganda has drastically changed, now claiming that USSR is the "Bastion of Peace" (СССР оплот МИРА). But there is a catch, since in Russian language both "peace" and "world" have the same word "mir" (МИР). So when a Russian says "we need mir", he can mean botch "we need peace" and "we need the whole world".

The Soviet movie itself:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXQo1o4RrpI

A similar theme is that of Soviet partisans and recon troops, so if anyone is interested a short series called Отряд специального назначения from 1987, is quite good.
