I've never had even a hint of interest in the 3D Sonic games. The 2D ones are all right but I've always thought they have a fundamental problem with encouraging the player to go really fast but making it impossible without really heavy rote memorization. The original Super Mario Bros. is a more fun speedy game in all honesty because the scrolling is slow enough and the stages and hazards are simple enough that you have time to react while you're running through them.

I think they're nice, people should give 'em a chance, though they're definitely hit-or-miss. Also, Sonic Team can't port for shit (not even 2D Sonic anymore) so playing original console releases or with mods is kind of required.

Fuck '06 though, nobody's gonna convince me this game is good. Same for Forces.

Well, that's why Mania is 16:9. That's also the reason why Sonic Advance 2 was hated (along with the bottomless pits) so I understand your complaint. But then again, I freaking love shit like Super Meat Boy and I Wanna Be the Guy so maybe my taste is already skewed.

Mania was great, but it's basically more of the same that was on genesis, just on a modern screen. Also fuck running out of breath in the underwater levels

I was complaining about it first but now I accept that it's a good game that does exactly what it's intended to do. Copying good levels from other games is better than fucking them up like what Forces did. People made fun of Lost World's artstyle but in retrospect it was vibrant and bursting with life compared to Forces' washed up textures and sloppy level geometry. Like, why tf are there those flying paper-thin platforms with grass? It doesn't look good even for an acid trip level design of classic platformers. How tf does a PS4 game look worse than fucking Sonic Unleashed that came out in, like, 2007? No Sonic game was able to top Unleashed in graphics. NONE.

I've changed my mind. Both Sonic fans and Sonic haters are annoying for different reasons. A typical Sonic hater is either:
>a normie
>a fan of a different franchise or company
>a fan hater
>a combination of the two
The first category isn't even worth talking about. Normies historically shat on anything they don't understand, be it weird hobbies, queer people, rock music, communism or anything outside of the "normal" really. The second type often criticizes the things in Sonic that their own favorite franchise is guilty of and has a habit of putting their favorite franchise on a pedestal. The third type takes their hatred for the Sonic community to the point that even liking Sonic games is considered some form of a crime against humanity and usually parrots the talking points of the previous two types, while the fourth type has the worst aspects of all three combined. I understand that there's plenty to hate in Sonic but it's just going a bit too far. Sure, it may come off as a joke but it often feels like they genuinely despise Sonic. If people were making fun at their expense it wouldn't be as funny to them anymore but if people make fun of Sonic then it's okay because Sonic is an acceptable punching bag. And it just feels like a giant double standard. Even anime fans make fun of Sonic now. People used to view anime fans as no-life losers all the time in the past.

Think about it:

>ProStreet is Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

>Rivals is Generations
>Payback is Lost World
>Unbound is Forces

You can say that Spider-Man is the Sonic of superhero games. Some Spider-Man games are peak cinema while others deserve damnation.
