I've read saya no uta, now I have kikokugai cyber slayer from the same writer. What am I in for?

Grimdark, edgy shit with forced pseudo-philosophical ramblings ripped from elsewhere interspersed within. That's all Urobuchi does, anyways. :^)

I recommend Subarashiki Hibi for Wittgenstein fellatio and black humor. It turned out a lot dumber than I was expecting given the hype, but still quite a trip.

Ever 17 was my first VN and is still on of my favorites. I imagine most older VN fags read it given not many were translated back then.

It's boring as shit tbh
Read subarashiki hibi if you want philosophy rambling

All I remember of Kikokugai is that it had a pretty decent cyberpunk atmosphere and also a ridiculously edgy sex scene towards the end.

Subahibi is cool but you have to admit the first chapter is largely rambling, lesbians and creepypasta coma signs. After that it picks up fast and continually entertains, although you have that detour into Lars von Trier territory about 3/4 through, which I expected but did not find so fun.

You can still be a pioneer, there won't be socialist homeland and you wouldn't have had any chance with the girls anyway, but these things still exist.

Care to recommend me some "unusual" visual novels/dating sims/otome? I cant stand high school setting or generic anime art style. Although I am willing to stomach those as long as there is interesting twist on gameplay. Just something that has different feel to it.

Recently I played Salting the Earth (buff orc girls), Ladykiller in a Bind (consent and bdsm) and Teraurge (xenophile h-game).

Subahibi pretends to be that to sucker you into the philosophy rambling and incredibly depressing mid section. Its worth a read.

Romeo Tanaka is my favourite writer. They usually praise Cross Channel, but I think Rewrite is his magnum opus. In the end, does mother Terra want us to explore the space no matter how much it cost her? I don't know the answer anyway…

However, fuck that Antoinette bitch.

"a thousand arms" was an old ps1 rpg where a significant part of the game was going on dates with female rpg companions…it is all about the male protagonist who is a blacksmith by trade. pretty good lefty game

If you enjoyed Yume Miru then I think you will enjoy his other works. He has a very realistic and dialectic but "bizarre" view on our world. I always want to write a detailed analysis of "Rewrite", but still haven't enough time to do so

I've wanted to play Cross Channel for years now but I've heard only bad things about the existing translations and I sadly cannot (and do not have time to study) read Japanese.
>>

 No.3481

>>3455
Translation of course isn't satisfactory, however I think it doesn't prevent you to enjoy if it really clicks, as ideas can cross the language barrier. Give it a try.
>>

 No.3505

>>3481
Isn't it one of the VNs that leans more on the literary side and requires a competent translation? I've played subahibi which Cross Channel is often compared to (since they are denpa games) and I imagine a sub-par translation of that would have ruined it.
>>

 No.3521

>>3505
It's because they only played visual novel for the appearance, but not for the essence. I usually played visual novel for new ideas, so subpar translation don't affect me much. I remember that I was once reading a short story of Romeo Tanaka by google translate (which was very bad back then), and was still surprised by his comment that "being successful by writing gal game, my hands are full of otaku's blood"

>visual novels/dating sims/otome
Is otome considered such a different genre or something? are there that many girls on this site, or is it because otome offers a different kind of experience? I would hope it's both, I feel lonely.

What you consider "generic anime style" is not clear, but if you like eroge about consent, there's an otoge called Cute Demon Crashers. As an OELVN, it also has an obligatory bisexual option. https://vndb.org/v17210
The thing is, there's very few 18+ otome games, and even fewer in English:

There's a VNDB thread about adding FOSS and Open Source as descriptors (separate from "Freeware") on visual novel releases in the database.
