just wanted to talk about some rouge-likes, maybe discover some i dont know about yet and know wich ones are your favorites

I like Unreal World, Caves of Qud and Tome 4.
It seems like the CoQ discord is filled with radlibs though and 4chan ALWAYS bitches about it in the roguelike threads whenever they come up. Tome 4 is kind of seen as a meme, but honestly that game is 4e DND done right and Unreal World is low fantasy that commits to the bit.

im horrible at CoQ but its a load of fun in my opinion

From what I understand they hate it because it was made by SA goons or whatever. Even then they can never elaborate on why this is a problem.

It's always some other excuse, despite that the people who bitch about CoQ always have a lot to say about it (so I guess they still play that game a lot)

It's not balanced so being "horrible" is fine. Doing the same OP builds over and over isn't fun anyway. I don't care about the dev's politics because I don't see any of it in the game"

What are some Roguelikes without the awful, unintuitive, Byzantine controls I've grown to expect from Roguelikes?

Caves of Qud came out with a chimera mutation overhaul and now it's fun to be a freak.

Oh shit, I haven't been keeping up actually. It also seems the endgame got fleshed out quite a bit, so I might make an OP char just to be able to see it.

Caves of Qud is cool but I've always been a C:DDA man
There is also that weird Japanese roguelike, Elona++. I remember playing that and there was a scroll of featherweight which stacked to the point where you could make items weightless, and eventually I got so many of them and stacked them up to the extent that I managed to make a queen sized bed, a nightstand with a candle, and a bookcase completely weightless and take it with me on my journeys so I had a little portable bedroom with me at all times
Yeah I tended to play Esper-cowboys before now but Chimeras seem pretty fun now

also one of my favorite items I have found in Caves of Qud is a revolver with a 7 shot chamber

>"The craftsmanship of this pistol worked in chrome and brass is breathtaking – grips of kingswood wrap your palm around themselves, the hammer is contoured to your thumb with infinitesimal precision, the eye of the barrel leers at your target. Twines of withered ivy are engraved along its frame and down its barrel stained with age and blood."

&ltThe seven lords of House Isner feasted on boar gut and swilled wine from gilded cups in the ivy-strewn halls of their hold. They spared no concern for temperance, for the coffers of their house had swelled gardeners' gold amassed through the sale of water drawn from the lords' wells. But as the gluttonous barons counted seven amongst their clan, so had become numbered their days of debauchery when the son of a beggared gardener swore a vengeful oath in the name of his father against the house of Isner.

&ltThe penniless boy beseeched a gunsmith of great repute to craft for him a pistol of the most exquisite artistry with which he could be sure to vanquish the seven lords, and in return the boy promised the smith all the spoils of the battle. The smith, who in the hazel eyes of the boy beheld the spirit of vengeance, agreed.

&ltAnd so the boy, armed with the masterwork pistol, cast open the doors of the Hall of Isner with a fury that shook their iron hinges and seized upon the supping lords. Before any of them had yet to set down their gilded cups, the boy unholstered the pistol and shot dead six of the sons of Isner. The last lord rejoised at his fortune and reached for his hip from where he would sling a pistol of his own at the spent boy. But as his crooked finger freed his holster's strap, the boy shot the lord as the smith had crafted for the boy a pistol with seven chambers and seven slugs. Such it was that on this day the house of Isner fell.

Caves of Qud is cool but I've always been a C:DDA man

CDDA is VERY easy to mod, anon.
Why dont you create a leftist or other interesting set of NPCs?

I will even help if someone wants to project to add new things to C;DDA, i have done a lot of editing in json on the game and know the code-base a little.

>CoQ discord is filled with radlibs
it's fucking horrifyingly awful. It's a shame too, because roguelike communities tend to be extremely chill, but CoQ has a dogshit community.

C:DDA discord got so bad full of entitled little retard burgers we had to make a new one and keep it on topic. it was terrible and made me realize how bad discord was.

A bunch that originated from the home computer milieu, as opposed to the *N*X milieu, so they have actual GUIs. IVAN and Castle of the Winds are two I'd recommend.

There's also some more casual examples like Jupiter Hell, and console roguelikes such as Mysterious Dungeon.

The Discord is unironically killing Cataclysm, the game needs an active major fork so SO badly to break the circlejerk, almost as much as the abomination that is modern DCSS.

ss*th made a video about, so get ready for some nazis too

The salt is pretty hilarious, especially considering how softball the review is for him.

Since there's two 'rogue-like' topics now, please use the other one, I'm gonna anchor this one, because the title didn't spell 'rogue' right.
