it is on my ever increasing todo list to attempt DIY archery in case shit actually hit the fan and I have go hunting without making too much noise. Have you tried it? Do you think it's viable?

How easy it is to maintain commercially available bows? etc etc so many questions

Sure but then 90% of hunting is finding, and tracking pray, you have to be really good at sneaking up on wild animals before you get to shoot your arrows. Most hunters just sit in a little wooden cabin with a rifle and wait for game to wander in front of them. And then it doesn't matter if the rifle makes a thundering noise. If hunting is how you get food i would go with that method.
