Some of it was true tho, like seed vernalization did actually yield better winter harvests.
Also what we now call epigenetics (changes in gene expression) sort off relates back to some concepts in Lysenkoism.
In fairness i should probably also add that some of what geneticists believed in the early 20th century was really dumb shit. The supposed race-supremacy genes are the obvious one. But many thought genes would be a convenient settings menu for configuring organisms, like making a role-play video-game character, or editing the config files for weed bushels where you could simply set the kernel-per-bushel number to 9999, for a bounty-full harvest. Ruling classes hired quack-scientists that attested that their wealthy donors got rich because they had special wealth genes. Considering the amount off really obvious BS that was attached to genes it's perhaps more understandable that some 20th century communists like Uncle Joe misjudged genetics. Tho they have to be blamed for thinking one could differentiate between bourgeois science and proletarian science, shit either works and leads to reproducible results or it doesn't.
