Leftypol could really learn something from Athenian democracy and the story of Aristides.
The fact Athenian democracy worked so well is what saved them numerous times especially from the advances of the Persian forces.

What lesson should we take away from Aristides exactly?

Those trying to learn from Greek history should also have a look at other democracies in the ancient Greek world so they're not entirely biased by the Athenian experience. Argos was a democracy for just as long as Athens and Syracuse was a democracy modeled directly after the radical Athenian system for a few generations before being couped by the tyrant Dionysius. Syracuse's democratic period coincided with when they defeated Athens in the disastrous Sicilian Campaign during the Peloponnesian War. Argos formed its democracy when their upper class was devastated in a war with Sparta, so they made a bunch of people new citizens which ultimately created the pressure to transform into a democracy. Argos was also famous for the demos punishing their officials when displeased with them, and the skutalismos ("club rule") incident where the demos went out and murdered huge numbers of wealthy citizens after suspecting them of trying to organize an oligarchic coup. In common with Athens, Argos also had multiple cases of successful oligarchic coups which were shortly overthrown to return to democracy. The demos seemed to really like democracy.

>While these things were going on, in the city of Argos civil strife broke out accompanied by slaughter of a greater number than is recorded ever to have occurred anywhere else in Greece. Among the Greeks this revolutionary movement was called "Club-law," receiving this appellation on account of the manner of the execution.
>58 1 Now the strife arose from the following causes: the city of Argos3 had a democratic form of government, and certain demagogues instigated the populace against the outstanding citizens of property and reputation. The victims of the hostile charges then got together and decided to overthrow the democracy. 2 When some of those who were thought to be implicated were subjected to torture, all but one, fearing the agony of torture, committed suicide, but this one came to terms under torture, received a pledge of immunity, and as informer denounced thirty of the most distinguished citizens, and the democracy without a thorough investigation put to death all those who were accused and confiscated their property. 3 But many others were under suspicion, and as the demagogues supported false accusations, the mob was wrought up to such a pitch of savagery that they condemned to death all the accused, who were many and wealthy. When, however, more than twelve hundred influential men had been removed, the populace did not spare the demagogues themselves. 4 For because of the magnitude of the calamity the demagogues were afraid that some unforeseen turn of fortune might overtake them and therefore desisted from their accusation, whereas the mob, now thinking that they had been left in the lurch by them, were angry at this and put to death all the demagogues. So these men received the punishment which fitted their crimes as if some divinity were visiting its just resentment upon them, and the people, eased of their mad rage, were restored to their senses.

Diodorus Siculus, Bibliotheca Historica volume 15:

Bibliotheca was a composite work drawing on the history of many other authors and was written about 300 years after this happened. Diodorus himself was trying to impart moral lessons to his readers.

If we are going by classical historical stuff the left should focus on.
Minimum classical reading for the left really should be The Art of War, The Thirty-Six Stratagems and The Prince.
Furthermore I think reading Dream of the Red Chamber, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and other classical literature that involves a lot of political/palace scheming (see lots of Chinese classical literature) should also basically be on any leftists bucketlist. The main classical historical figure the left should read about is Cao Cao obviously. Imperial Warlord: A Biography of Cao Cao is another one that should be required reading.
The main reason for this is the left genuinely has complete and total shit for brains when it comes to actually carrying out politics and playing the political game, near every time I watch left wing wannabe politicans or left wing activists in the media, I can't help but absolutely cringe at how amateur hour it is to the point I legitimately believe an average 12 year old could run rings around most leftists.
The left has an issue of thinking about politics as a grand strategy game, big policy announcements, big geopolitical moves by states, but it doesn't think strategically on the micro level, there is very little strategic wording or playing the game of actual day to day politics, lack of real manuvering around political opponents, opportunists, journalists, staffers, management of interpersonal relationships, recognizing talent, being able to accept criticism, well crafted messaging etc. In fact, not only does the Left largely ignore this stuff, it always seemingly to be against it. Any leftist that actually cares about messaging or even priorotizing certain issues is deemed a reactionary or fed or some bullshit. "WE CAN DO MULTIPLE THINGS AT ONCE", no, you quite literally cannot, every political figure has a limited amount of political capital and you have to delegate that capital and time effectively and the left almost always chooses a broad jack of all trades shot while then largely doubling down on the most unpopular Idpol GOOD FUCKING PERSON positions when push comes to shove.
The left really needs to learn how to be scheming Eunuch tier because at the moment we are being clobbered by actual fucking retards.

That’s an insult to tweens.
Also, leftism died in the 1970s.
I don’t think it wasn’t meant to be in this timeline.

>The left has an issue of thinking about politics as a grand strategy game, big policy announcements, big geopolitical moves by states, but it doesn't think strategically on the micro level,

Idk it seems that the neoliberal left is more focused on political stuff in the social-personal realm.

>there is very little strategic wording or playing the game of actual day to day politics, lack of real manuvering around political opponents, opportunists, journalists, staffers, management of interpersonal relationships, recognizing talent, being able to accept criticism, well crafted messaging etc.

Um, the neoliberal left is already doing all of this.

>In fact, not only does the Left largely ignore this stuff, it always seemingly to be against it. Any leftist that actually cares about messaging or even priorotizing certain issues is deemed a reactionary or fed or some bullshit.

It seems more the opposite.
The left seems to be more guilt tripping people into participating in their idpol games.
