I think it's one of the worst things about America, although it's also true that tragedies like this have played out all over Europe and elsewhere - as much as people shit on Islam, historical Christianity tended to be even worse as far as wiping out pre-existing religious practices where it was introduced. Like India was under Islamic rule for a long period, at times very strict, but today where are the Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, etc. and where are the practitioners of the ancient "paganism" of the Slavs, Scandinavians, and Druids?

I say this as someone who actually likes the contrived syncretic culture of the US and thinks Jesus was pretty cool in terms of the philosophy attributed to him, but I think it's a tragedy how aggressively Abrahamic religious spread and American assimilationism have erased historical culture and traditions. No one has it worse in this sense than black descendants of slaves, who have had to meticulously retrace the Atlantic slave trade to figure out roughly where the fuck on the African continent their ancestors were even abducted from, even many white Americans wouldn't be able to tell you exactly where they came from today.

This is really how it is in the USA. Capitalism just wipes out culture and replaces it with commodified copies of culture. Like look at black people brought over from the slave trade.

They have no culture of their own anymore so they had to create one in the form of hip-hop and such. Slaves back in the day sung slave hymns. the thing is capitalism, like all things under capitalism, only allows something to exist in so far as it can profit off of it.
