Politicians ‘weaponising’ attack against pro-Palestine activities: ExpertPoliticians and organisations have moved swiftly to falsely link support for Palestine with the Bondi Beach murders, a Sydney-based journalist who specialises in Israel-Palestine relations has told Al Jazeera.
“I am distraught, I am angry, I am deeply, deeply frustrated with what I already see as the weaponisation of this attack by many members of the political elite in Australia and globally,” said Antony Loewenstein, author of The Palestine Laboratory: How Israel Exports the Technology of Occupation Around the World.
As we’ve been reporting, Israeli leaders, including Netanyahu, have claimed that Australia’s recognition of Palestinian statehood helped to spawn the shooting.
“What really saddens me, and I say this as someone Jewish, is that Jewish organisations and politicians have made a direct link and connection between yesterday’s attack and pro-Palestine marches,” Loewenstein said.
“As if, somehow, anyone knows what the motivations of the killers were, and this idea that the peaceful protests in a country like Australia, or anywhere, against Israel’s genocide are somehow unacceptable.
“Many, many Jewish people are involved in those protests and those activities.”
