Most people aren't homeless because they've fallen on hard times, but because they're mentally ill drug addicts with violent antisocial tendencies; and they would most certainly ruin, trash, and make unlivable any public housing you give them as they do already on the streets. What we need are insane asylums.

I dunno if you've ever been abused before to the point you are involuntarily not living in your own home, but after a certain amount of time you start doing stuff like pissing on the street cuz why not.

There are public housing projects in the USA that do get trashed but those are mostly just the ones occupied by black gangbangers, which the media hyperfocuses on. But they'll do the same no matter what housing situation they are in.

Dancha (団地) is a perfect example of why the "public housing always gets trashed" argument is more of a regional or cultural critique than a universal rule of urban planning.

It's hard to take anti-public-housing people seriously.

If a Republican supermajority combined with a ""fiscal cliff"" occur within the 50 years or so say goodbye to section 8, section 811, section 202, public housing etc. They'd just try to privatize it or force states to pay for all of it without much notice.

Not really that stable. Rhode Island got the memo from the current HUD, and are trying to detach from HUD now as a result and just tax the fuck out of their citizens for their own public housing.
