“Dream” versus Reality of Having a House

According to a recent survey of 30 countries by a poll agency, a majority of respondents in Japan, Germany, Australia and many other countries could not afford to buy a house.

House prices and rents in most capitalist countries have recorded the annual rise of 2.5%. Notably, in Portugal, they have reached an all-time high with 17.6% increase within one year.

With the skyrocketing house prices and rents, many families are giving up their “dreams” of having their own houses. They rent poor rooms or live in abandoned buildings, tents or plastic shelters installed by the roadside or under bridges.

A western newspaper lamented that the housing crisis in the West is attributable to many and complex reasons, but the most underlying cause is with the profit-first mindset.

However, hundreds of thousands of modern houses have been built in cities and counties in the DPRK including Pyongyang and Komdok area at the expense of the state over the last five years and provided to the working people free of charge. During the period of the new long-term plan, the construction projects greater in scope are underway so as to satisfactorily solve the housing problem of the people and continue to create a higher level of civilization.

Every year, people are happily moving into the modern houses built by the state with lively housewarming celebrations. This reality has become commonplace in our country and in our people’s life, giving them a dream and hope for a new and more civilized life and new happiness.

Says who? By what authority should anyone have anything? And if it's decided what people should have, who is to implement it. Are you going to deliver to people what they "should have"?

The Koreans have worked hard to raise their standards of living, those are real achievements made possible through labor. All you have is wishful thinking about some abstract ideal that should exist.

I don't know the laws over there. Marriage from the point of view of the state is about reproducing society, gays can't reproduce so it makes sense that they don't get marriage benefits. This is the norm for almost all societies in history.

Explicitly allowing it basically only happens in western liberal countries, so it's seen as bourgeoisie eccentrism, and the LGBTQ+ movement itself was funded and promoted by the western oligarchy, so purity testing nations based on their acceptance of neoliberal sexual ideology makes no sense, since only western capitalists benefit from its acceptance. It's kind of like asking a communist country why it hasn't embraced neoliberal capitalism as some kind of gotcha - except it's not purely an economic question.

Beyond that from what I know about asian culture is that they're pretty accepting of sexuality, they just don't put it in the center of everything, so I'm assuming north korea isn't too different in what's accepted over there.

Chiming in to say I completely agree with this, even if I don't agree with everything else you wrote. The "freedom" standards of western liberalism are used as a kind of selective blinder, encouraged as a metric for judging other cultures despite the fact that they are increasingly superficial. At the end of the day, it's a metric by which a country which is economically enslaved by the USA and has little or no sovereign control over its resources, spending, foreign policy, or speech, but puts western liberal values into its legal code can be deemed more "free" than a country which controls its own resources, policy, spending, etc. but where getting fucked in the ass and talking proudly about it is illegal. I personally am not opposed, at all to gay marriage or open homosexuality or anything like that, but I also live in a culture and society where this stuff is normal; and the reasoning, here, for it being normal and accepted is, ultimately, built on top of, or with influence from, a long history of liberal social philosophy and culture. To say that this philosophy and culture is superior and that everyone else must adhere to it simply because I personally do not disagree with small parts of it when the economic side of it has genocided, enslaved, murdered, coup'd, robbed, and dispossessed millions is the height of arrogance and just another way to try to enforce cultural hegemony on those who are different, with no proof whatsoever that it would be beneficial to them.

Not to derail the thread away from north korea, but neolib propaganda will also do this thing with Palestinians where they say: "if you're gay and go over there they would kill you" as a gotcha to wrongly assert that they don't treat their gays with dignity, but then use that as a moral justification for bombing the shit out of them (including their gay population). It's fucked up. I'm sure they use the same rhetoric with NK now that I think about it.

To me it seems like the rainbow flag movement is like a trojan horse for submission to the hegemony. They want to [symbolically] plant that flag wherever they conquer.
