Especially under capitalism. Capitalism actually thrives very well under a purely egoistic model of morality and eventually you will end up with a sanitized world where everything is made to appeal to the most common denominator because that is what is most profitable. I mean we're already there really just it can always be worse. There's no more unique culture or ideals left just the consumption and production of commodities.
