Is this why my friends on Riot stopped replying to my messages?

>This name change has been a long time in the making. As we explained when we announced the rebrand a few weeks ago, we’ve had major issues with a certain gigantic games company which has blocked us from being able to trademark Riot or even Riot.im
Fuck League of Legends.

>What’s more, RiotX is now out of beta - our next generation Matrix client for Android has flown the nest and spread its wings as Element - replacing the old Riot Android app

Finally, I've been waiting for the app to stabilize before getting it

why should I care?

Why not just use XMPP?

>Fuck League of Legends.
But without LoL there would also be no ahri/d.va yuri, and that would be a net loss to humanity.

(tame version)

>Long nails near vagina
Literally why

I hope their SEO is good. I really don't see this making a dent in discord for the foreseeable future.

>Moreover, we want a name that will be future-proof for peer-to-peer Matrix. As Matrix.org announced last month, P2P Matrix is in heavy development - and we can see a world where Element will literally be an element of Matrix, running your own homeserver within the app, so you can communicate if you don’t have a server… or even Internet. In fact, we published the first experimental build of P2P Riot for iOS on Testflight a few days ago - so we can clearly see a future where we will be in our P2P element!

Because ahri can't deny her kinky girlfriend anything she wants.

The kitsune seems cute. :3 But not cute enough to justify proprietary software.

foxgirls are too great

Who the nine tails keeps adding spoiler after the fact to clothed images that don't show breasts or genitals? If you have this combination of free time and access to the site, add some clear guidelines to the rules instead of the current placeholder. That would be a lot more useful than spoilering perfectly normal interactions between female classmates.

nothings cute enough to justify it, it just makes up for the fact it exists.

Wouldn't having a free license, well, free the riot team from this?

Not really.
Here's a similar historial situation in relation to the copyrighted name Firefox (which otherwise is open source software):

Stop over-using the glow meme, it's tantamount to spreading FUD.

also they use the apache license, which isn't exactly "free"

I mean like a full, like, GNU FOSS licensee.
And fair, I was just looking for something random to post, tbf.

It is literally free. It's just not 'copyleft' (instead: 'permissive').

Quick reminder the protocol is still called Matrix, and you shouldn't be using web 3.0 JS bloatware instead of native software as anything but a quick way of recruiting normalfags point blanc.

which has the least bloat

Wrong (primary) question; the first question is "which support E2E encryption" - this and other such details can be toggled here:
With this in mind
>which has the least bloat
I'd assume weechat-matrix

why does only Riot support voip?

Because its definition in the Matrix standard is still experimental. Also because it's currently reliant on WebRTC, which relies on web bloat.

There is currently an early effort by nheko Reborn (the only truly native client that [mostly] supports E2EE) to implement VOIP without WebRTC, probably using GStreamer:

I use gomuks. Encryption isn't currently supported, though. Unfortunately.

I'll just keep using Element/Riot until Fractal enters beta/stable (has E2EE & VoIP support).

Awright, VOIP (and video!) is now working in nheko Reborn using the first fully native, bloat-free implementation for Matrix.

Only vital feature missing is some parts of E2EE, particularly key verification:

>voip and video working
That's good to hear. How does their implementation work? So far we've had Jitsi-based conferences on Element, which I quite like. You can add a little Jitsi widget to your room and people can freely come in and out of the call, much like channels in Discord.

Google just banned element from their playstore:

It was apparently unbanned shortly after

Why? lol

In the twitter thread you linked it seems Google banned them for hosting an extremist community that might've use that as a base of Ops / raids, it's not entirely clear, matrix team them sends a letter explaining how communities work on matrix and shortly after it's back? I'd be interested in details here too. It might be a good precedent to make our own leftypol.org matrix server instead of relying on the default matrix.org hosted in the Queen's England.

Way too many people are using the main Matrix server still and defeating the goal of a decentralized, federated community.

This was kinda the fault of matrix for having such abysmally shitty PR, tbh. When I first started trying to understand matrix they did a really shitty job of explaining it to me. If they would have made their ted talks this simple from the start then we wouldn't have this issue.

>banned element for being problematic
>but not discord which basically e-celeb pedo cults
I hate silly valley so fucking much

It's back now.

Xmpp failed, get over it

Isn't element the only one that supports e2e at the moment?

Not the one you're replying to but I think so yes. I wouldn't use the others until they match that essential feature.

File: 1612465829411.jpg (29.17 KB, 600x733, 1589190081658.jpg)

Many features are exclusive to synapse since they haven't been actually implemented into the matrix protocol yet or are undocumented.
>What element calls "communities" is actually an undocumented matrix feature called "groups".

Why would you say that blindly? Other clients have had e2e for years now.
>visit https://matrix.org/clients-matrix/
>check E2E row
- Element
- weechat-matrix
- gomuks
- nheko Reborn
- DittoChat
- Mirage
- FluffyChat
- Seaglass
- matrix-commander
There is also pantalaimon, a proxy dameon that can encrypt and decrypt E2EE for arbitrary clients.

Disclaimer: I haven't used any of them except for Element, and some like Nheko have disclaimers about their E2EE being 'proof-of-concept'. Read before you rely on it. I recommend Element for E2EE because at least it's been externally audited; I don't know if others have (only because I haven't checked).

Is there a client that supports proxying through Tor?

Good question

You're right, I apologize.

Reposting features from the feature-list that I think are critical for leftypol:
>E2E: weechat-matrix, Element Web/Desktop, gomuks, nheko Reborn, Mirage, FluffyChat, matrix-commander
>MMA*: weechat-matrix, Spectral, Quaternion, Mirage, matrix-commander
>VoIP: Element Web/Desktop, nheko Reborn,
>*: Multiple Matrix Accounts**
>**: Because it's pretty wise to compartmentalize online commie terrist activity like this from let's say your legal name or other uniquely compromising information (we're an open target of both state actors and nazis).

>Disclaimer: I haven't used any of them except for Element, and some like Nheko have disclaimers about their E2EE being 'proof-of-concept'.
Yeah same and very good thing to point out. Let me quote them verbatim:
>Note regarding End-to-End encryption
>Currently the implementation is at best a proof of concept and it should only be used for testing purposes. Most importantly, it is missing device verification, so while your messages and media are encrypted, nheko doesn't verify who gets the messages.
That's a pretty major and serious gash imo, especially within the context of this community, where one ought to assume that there are malicious actors that would be very happy to exploit shit like this.

I'm personally going to wait 6 more months or so and check back if some well-developed client is able to support all three of the categories listed above, until then I'll keep using Element.
