Is it true that this site is a honeypot for glowies?

I can't tell if op means discord or leftypol.

Discord is deff a honey pot.

Dunno about that, but it is transparently obvious that their business model predicates on collecting and selling user communication. Companies that do that usually have no problem giving that same information to governments when they come knocking.

literally made by and for pedos

What's a better alternative?

matrix.org / Element (the desktop application)
It's gradually picking up in adoption.

I use element for the community chat.
It is a client of the matrix chat. Works well. Voice/video is not as direct as discord, and emotes aren't as easy to add, "channels" don't exist per se. It's free and it works though.

Not normie friendly, but everyone here has shown a lot of support for element so I'll check it out thanks.

yeah, not normie friendly and discord is "more fun". be sure to join the leftypol matrix chat though.

>Is it true that this site is a honeypot for glowies?

Discord should not be treated as trustworthy software. Why?

A) It is proprietary software.

B) Discord is owned, maintained and operated by a corporation called Hammer and Chisel. They are operating under a profit incentive which runs contrary to your privacy.

C) Aforementioned corporation was co-founded by Jason Citron, who is also the CEO.
Citron also founded OpenFeint.
In 2011, OpenFeint was party to a class action suit with allegations including computer fraud, invasion of privacy, breach of contract, bad faith and seven other statutory violations. According to a news report "OpenFeint's business plan included accessing and disclosing personal information without authorization to mobile-device application developers, advertising networks and web-analytic vendors that market mobile applications"

D) Discord's "privacy policy" is permissive to collecting and selling or transferring your data.
"We collect information from you when you voluntarily provide such information, such as when you register for access to the Services or use certain Services. Information we collect may include but not be limited to username, email address, and any messages, images, transient VOIP data (to enable communication delivery only) or other content you send via the chat feature… When you interact with us through the Services, we receive and store certain information such as an IP address, device ID, and your activities within the Services. We may store such information or such information may be included in databases owned and maintained by affiliates, agents or service providers."
(One of those "service providers" is Google's cloud network and analytic services, by the way)
"Our Services currently do not respond to “Do Not Track” (DNT) signals"
"The Company is based in the United States. No matter where you are located, you consent to the processing and transferring of your information in and to the U.S. and other countries. The laws of the U.S. and other countries governing data collection and use may not be as comprehensive or protective as the laws of the country where you live."
"As we develop our business, we might sell or buy businesses or assets. In the event of a corporate sale, merger, reorganization, bankruptcy, dissolution or similar event, your information may be part of the transferred assets."

They are looking at selling your data RIGHT NOW, if you have ever used their platform.

Also before anyone tries to say the Microsoft buyout talks are over-hyped look at this:
Microsoft owns Xbox. They did a partnership with Xbox months ago. They are obviously in contact.

F) Now, about Microsoft. They own Skype, and they have handed fuckloads of user data to the NSA on request.
So Discord is actively looking at essentially handing their entire company to people who are known to give up user data to the NSA (not that Discord hasn't worked with glowies themselves in the past).

Yes, it's Glowiecord.

Fukken saved!

Microsoft itself was the very first member of the NSA PRISM program. Skype started handing over data to the NSA a bit later, but still before Microsoft bought them out.
