You guys are aware that everybody connects you to idpol transhumanists, liberals LARPing as AntiFa and cuckold fetishists, and that this is hurting your cause?
I lurked this website for a month now and i noticed a fundamental difference between the posters who are here to actually talk to others and the posters who link to 4chan to ask for support in some ridiculous bait thread where you just waste time.

I also noticed that you have a thread talking about if an imageboard would be better as a single-page-application.
I am currently working on my own imageboard from scratch. I am actually a web-developer and know my stuff, so (i hope) it won't be just another 4chan rip-off. I am going to use node - react - redux - sequelize for mysql - redis.
I am visiting different boards to gather ideas, but i see the same sorry state everywhere. I seriously want to make something good.

How will different software solve any of the issues? You absolute moron

First of all, current imageboards are antiquated. You don't even get live post updates. A 1min countdown for refresh is the best we have. Having a websocket connection to fix this one single issue already means to start from scratch.

Then you either have board specific catalogue or the [overboard], but no easy way to just filter and watch and get notifications of a bunch of boards you want, while ignoring others.

And those are just two issues. I have a few dozen of those collected now.

There have multiple attempts to create new imageboard software from scratch and its always ended abandoned. Its not possible for one person to do it.

TV is dumber than newspapers. The abstractness of text compared to an audio-visual streams leads to a less emotional mode of thinking. It stands to reason that the internet becoming more TV-like due to faster download speed has played a role in making it dumber. So I think a textboard would be better.

ADHD zoomer shit. If I want an update, I press f5 :P

You should take a good look at the various software thingies that already exist. 8chan could actually display a catalog of all boards and appending board names to the address name of that would create a catalog of whatever collection of boards desired with no javascript or cookie stuff required. Boards are kinda dumb actually, since one thread can easily fit into several categories, so tags make more sense (some of the tags could be automatic, for example very long or very short OP).

It is possible, its almost too easy, because you see hundreds of kids trying it as their first coding project.
The thing is that they just rarely have the skills and means to keep it alive and moderate it.

And they lack the creativity to make it its own thing.
If you are an alternative to 4chan. You will never be more. You will always be just the place for some people to drop some shit when they are banned there. You are not a contender, you are the second choice.

So if you want to actually make a good imageboard, you have to question every concept of the established shit.
But the ones we have now do not even question the default view, even thought that everybody immediatley clicks to the catalogue.
Don't copy, make your own.
I am convinced that the current imageboards do not get used because they are good, but because they have users. And the less established boards are literally just "i am already used to this".
>b but if you do this and that you can somehow emulate the very basic functionality that you would expect out-of-the-box
Nobody cares.

this. Even twitter/fb doesnt do live updates it waits until you scroll up on the timeline. This is how you should do it, wait until the user does a scroll action at bottom of page and then update using polling.

I seriously doubt websocket connections will work at scale esp. since even the theoretic limit of connections is 65k per server but in reality its more like 20k which means your scaling will be expensive or slow as fuck. Live websocket updates are for real time applications like browser based multiplayer games etc. Autists who think this is a good idea have no idea of scalability. I guess its fine if your imageboard will be like 300 people but not a 4chan level website

First half is off-topic for this board.
With the rest, would that allow NoJS users like myself to post? Security is important to posters in certain countries.

Websockets does get used for Matrix, Slack, Discord…

Reddit does long polling, which is more expensive than websockets. But Reddit literally runs on python on an old shitty code. Facebook also uses long-polling.
Twitter… never checked it, because its a shit platform that offers nothing good… also uses long-polling according to google.

So all of those sites have a method of the server to push to the client.
Many do polling because websockets isn't broadly supported. Those are platforms that want to work on a shitty phone that someone picked up on the streets in nigeria. And they were developed at times when websockets weren't even a thing.

No common imageboard has a way of the server pushing to the client.
Every single other platform has.

Live updates are how social media realized they could make their users addicted. Even autorefresh is still somewhat predatory, a Refresh button that sends a request for new posts when pressed would be best imho.

it's also so that people get drip-fed dopamine and keep coming back for more. If you gave them everything at once, they'd take a second to look, see everything, and leave.
If you make them scroll up and make it so that they never really are in control of what they see, they stay on your service longer because they have an incentive to keep pushing the stupid button to get a treat
