Proposal:
Implement weekly agenda system.
How it works:
Step 1: Thread with OP with the weekly agenda is created.
Step 2: That thread will serve as the place to propose next weeks agenda.
Step 3: A new thread is created for each item in the agenda.
Step 4: Proposal system works the same, two votes besides your own makes it a "valid" vote.
Step 5: On end of Friday UTC, proposal period stops.
Step 6: On Sunday UTC, everything is archived.
Step 7 (Also step 1): On Monday UTC, a new thread is created with the proposals from the thread. This thread is now the agenda of this week.
Step 8 (also step 2): That thread will be where proposals are made. If your proposal gets 2 votes besides your own, it goes to next weeks agenda. (You have until Friday to propose).
Step 9 (also step 3): A thread is created for each item to be discussed in the weekly agenda.
Step 10 (also step 4): All proposals that have a total of 3 votes will go into next week's agenda.
etc.
In other words:
Each week a thread is made with the agenda, where people can propose (until midnight Friday) the agenda for next week. A thread is made for each item on the agenda. The board is completely archived every Sunday.
Extraordinary votes can be made, but a case must be made for their urgency.
Doesn't make sense to make this permanent unless we like it. So, if this passes, we will evaluate its effectiveness and how people feel about it as we go.
Pros:
- Mitigates the tendency to impulsive decisions.
- Gives people time to talk and think about votes.
- Votes aren't pushed out randomly at sporadic times.
- Easier to understand what is being decided on each week.
- There is time to rest (Sat - Sun) no need to think about expiring votes on the weekend.
- Easier communication to community about what is being decided.
