It's coming in days. Weeks tops. Since the end of the 12 day long Imposed War, the US & Israel have been recuperating, eagerly scheming another attack on Iran since the last one backfired. The EU has played along with this scheme, collaborating with the US and Israel to restore sanctions against Iran, a continued act of aggressive economic warfare.

U.S. Secretary of "Defense" Pete Hegseth has recently called an "unprecedented" number of high ranking U.S. military officials to meet in Virginia for an undisclosed purpose, and in the same week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.

This is a thread for discussing this war as soon as it kicks off, and the lead-up to it.

Apparently something revealed by this meeting is that the American military is comically officer heavy. It seems there is about 1 general for every 1000 soldiers. Reminds me of the situation in Britain where they have more admirals than naval vessels.

Thomas Keith - Since this morning, Hebrew outlets admit that 100s of settlers and soldiers have been receiving direct phone calls from “Iranian intelligence” offering recruitment, pay, and security, complete with Telegram contact numbers. The Zionist police chief went public, claiming the wave of calls was only “psychological warfare” and urging people not to panic.

The transcript of the recording makes the point sharper: “Iranian intelligence seeks skilled agents. Competitive pay, professional security. Find us on Telegram and online. To unsubscribe, press nine.”

Whether answered or ignored, the signal is the same, Tehran has turned every phone into a front line. It is not about actual recruitment but about rupturing the illusion of security inside the Zionist home front, making every ringtone a reminder that the resistance can reach directly into their pockets.

Well the United States has been wanting to start a war with Iran for a long time now.

Back in 2017 there was a story about Iran diffusing some kind of underwater bomb plot to attack a US ship. My takeaway was that the US was going to false flag its way into this war. I can't find a source right now (google is useless start documenting your own shit!) but I'm sure you've heard more than one story about WWIII breaking out because of US and Iran over the years.

So I don't think this is over Palestine. This is basically about the falling rate of profit and using war to artificially reset it.

>So I don't think this is over Palestine. This is basically about the falling rate of profit and using war to artificially reset it.
The rest of what you wrote is accurate, but I disagree about this. The amount of sway that Zionists have over US foreign policy is actually huge; Iran is the prime target because "Israel" wants them to be, and destroying Iran serves Zionist interests above all else. The ambition of Israeli leadership is expansion and total regional hegemony, and it's not a coincidence that US war against Iran serves this goal; same with US war and ops against Iraq, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, Egypt, etc. The US isn't behaving "rationally" in a nationalistic capitalist sense, it's acting in service of an increasingly small clique which is dominated by Zionists (who actually are acting in the interest of their own ethnonationalist death cult ideology) and MIC war profiteers who don't know or care about preserving the US as a functional empire. It's not a big charade, the US leadership really is captured by a mafia-like group who prioritize a different state. The US could act "rationally" (in the deranged capitalist hegemonic sense) and still do wars, but the US deciding to wage war against Iran now will be suicidal for the US and great for Israeli hegemony.

I disagree about this specifically "not being over Palestine."

The primary beneficiary of this is "Israel." The US and its leadership are Zionists, and the American state is really a multi-national corporate blob within which a plurality are ideologically tied to Zionism and the "Greater Israel" project. They didn't need to start arresting foreign exchange students for saying "don't do genocide" to reset the falling rate of profit. They don't need to tie emergency funds to support for "Israel" to reset the falling rate of profit. They don't need to let Unit 8200 staff America's press. They don't need to have the IOF train American cops.

If the US had this kind of relationship with Nazi Germany nobody would be afraid to say what was going on. Mussolini was once Europe's top Fascist, but by the end of WWII, Italy had become a German puppet state. The US is not quite there, but nevertheless does increasingly go after the ethnic, religious, national, & political groups its protégé specifically despises, and does pass laws written by its protégé's extraordinarily powerful lobby. It's weird that people can understand that an absurd amount of Americans from Jewish and Evangelical backgrounds are brainwashed into believing in total loyalty to Zionism, but somehow there's a cognitive disconnect when openly rapid Zionists are disproportionately represented in US media, tech, finance, and politics. Why is an ex-IOF prison guard the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic? Why was Biden's secretary of state a lifelong Zionist who criticized Reagan for threatening to stop funding "Israel"? Why is there a Unit 8200 guy in charge of "leaking" Biden & Trump's supposed "angry private thoughts" about Netanyahu? Why was Biden's Lebanon guy a former IOF tank commander? Trump's son-in-law has no official position and Netanyahu used to sleep in his room when he visited NYC; so why is Jared Kushner, a real estate guy, attending negotiations with Witkoff & Netanyahu? Trump's second biggest donor in 2024 was Elon Musk, a Zionist, and his third biggest donor was Miriam Adelson, an ex-IOF soldier whose one issue is Zionism - what's that about?

Just because Al Capone once ran Chicago doesn't mean capitalism was fine & dandy up until Al Capone ran Chicago; and yet, still, Al Capone once ran Chicago. It had fuck all to do with the fact that he was Italian, but it has a lot to do with his organized crime syndicate.

What is Quantico, and where is it?
Quantico is a Marine Corps base located some 60km (nearly 40 miles) south of Washington, DC, in the state of Virginia.
It consists of nearly 24,000 hectares (59,000 acres) with about 21,000 hectares (52,000 acres), or 88 percent, forested.
The base was established in 1917 and has been in use since.
It calls itself “Crossroads of the Marine Corps” and is home to the US Marine Corps Combat Development Command.
The base also houses the FBI Academy.

What is happening today at Quantico?
US President Donald Trump and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth will address hundreds of senior military officers in person at a base in Virginia.
The abruptly scheduled gathering of civilian leaders and top military brass takes place after the Pentagon suddenly asked military leaders from around the world to convene without publicly disclosing the reason.
The news prompted speculation about the purpose of summoning such a large number of generals and admirals to one place, with many based in more than a dozen countries, including in the Middle East.
Experts say that while such meetings are nothing new, the scale of the gathering, the haste with which it was called and the mystery surrounding it are particularly unusual.

Trump’s address to top-ranking military officers later today will take place a few hours after the White House unveiled a 20-point proposal it said could bring an immediate halt to Israel’s war on Gaza.

The announcement came as the US president held talks with Israeli PM Netanyahu, who faces an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court over alleged war crimes, in Washington, DC.

Meeting follows rebranding of Department of Defense
Today’s meeting comes weeks after Trump signed an order changing the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War in all executive statements.

Trump said at a signing ceremony on September 5, the name change was part of a larger shift away from a “woke” ideology within the department, adding it would beckon in a new age of military victory.

For his part, Hegseth argued the name swap would help with “restoring the warrior ethos”. The former Fox presenter added: “We’re going to go on offence, not just on defence. Maximum lethality, not tepid legality. Violent effect, not politically correct.”

Administration officials said the name “Department of War” would be used in official White House correspondence and public statements. But a more permanent change would require Congress to pass new legislation. To that end, Trump added he would ask Congress to codify the name into law.

The new name has been widely interpreted as a reflection of a more aggressive foreign-policy posture under Trump. Since taking office for a second term in January, the Republican has overseen bombing campaigns in Yemen and Iran.

He has also ordered deadly aerial attacks on alleged drug-smuggling boats in the international waters of the Caribbean Sea. Experts say such strikes have scant legal basis and raise the risks of civilians, including fishermen and migrants, being targeted.

Trump has made several name changes since taking office, including undoing moves that saw military sites named after Confederate officials baptised with new monikers.

Meeting taking place as government shutdown nears
The gathering at Quantico comes as the US is heading towards a government shutdown, with Republicans and Democrats appearing unlikely to reach a deal that would extend funding past a midnight deadline (04:00 GMT on Wednesday).

The Republican-controlled Senate is expected to vote on a temporary spending bill that has failed once already, with no sign that a second vote will bring success.

Federal agencies, meanwhile, issued detailed plans that would close offices conducting scientific research, customer service and other activities not deemed “essential” and send thousands of workers home if Congress does not agree on a fix before funding expires at midnight.

Airlines warned that a shutdown could slow flights, while the Labor Department said it would not issue its monthly unemployment report, a closely watched barometer of economic health.

From Patricia Marins via Twitter:

The US has shifted over 30 tanker aircraft from Europe to the Middle East, in scenes very similar to those seen days before the outbreak of the 12-day war.

Iran has been focused on demonstrating military strength through new missile tests and aircraft acquisitions, which could certainly trigger a new conflict with Israel.

In recent days, I showed that four additional THAAD launchers have been installed to defend Israel’s skies. Israel does not have more than 300 defensive missiles, but with the THAAD systems and the US ships stationed nearby, it could have around 700 to 1,000 interceptors in total. While this is fewer than during the 12-day war, it remains a significant number.

A new attack would indicate that Israel and the US do not want to give Iran time to rearm or rebuild its radar and air defense systems.

Such a war would be catastrophic for both sides. Although Iran is still assembling its air force and repairing radar systems, it possesses a vast arsenal of missiles.

A new Israeli strike could target air bases and the recently purchased MiG-29s still on the ground.

During the June conflict, Iran successfully concealed nearly all of its aircraft and helicopters, preserving its units from damage.

Israel destroyed very little Iranian military material but dealt a heavy blow to Iran’s military and economic infrastructure.

Another possible motivation for an attack is Iran’s rapid reconditioning of its missile stockpile and the ongoing deployment of these weapons. This arsenal, built over 20 years, consists of thousands of ballistic and cruise missiles.

Trump administration deporting hundreds of Iranian citizens: Tehran
An Iranian Foreign Ministry official says the Trump administration plans to deport about 400 Iranians.

An Iranian official says the United States plans to deport hundreds of Iranian citizens in the coming weeks, with the first 120 deportees expected to arrive in Iran within days, as US President Donald Trump continues his immigration crackdown.

Hossein Noushabadi, director general for parliamentary and consular affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told the Tasnim news agency on Tuesday that US immigration authorities plan to deport about 400 Iranians.

Noushabadi said the first planeload of Iranian nationals would arrive “within the next one or two days” after a stop in Qatar. Qatari authorities did not immediately comment on his remarks.

Noushabadi said most of the Iranian nationals targeted had entered the US without documentation, primarily through Mexico, while some faced other immigration issues.

The deportations, which have not yet been publicly acknowledged by the Trump administration, come as tensions remain high between the two countries after the US joined its ally Israel in bombing Iran during a 12-day June conflict.

Noushabadi said on Tuesday that US authorities had unilaterally made the decision to deport the Iranian nationals without consultations with Iran.

A US-chartered flight took off from Louisiana on Monday and was scheduled to arrive in Qatar late on Tuesday so the deportees could be transferred to a Tehran-bound flight, a US official said.

Pentagon chief Hegseth announces Qatari Air Force facility at Idaho base
The US and Qatar have signed a letter of agreement to bring a Qatari F-15 fighter jet contingent to a US military base.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has announced that the United States and Qatar have signed a letter of agreement to build a Qatari Emiri Air Force facility at a US Air Force base in the western US state of Idaho.

The announcement on Friday came during a meeting between Hegseth and Qatari Defence Minister Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani at the Pentagon.

Hegseth then shifted his remarks to the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, which he said would host a contingent of Qatari F-15 fighter planes and pilots to “enhance our combined training, increase lethality, [and] interoperability”.

Ali al-Ansari, Qatar’s media attache to the US, later clarified that the facility “will not be a Qatari airbase”.

“Qatar has made an initial 10-year commitment to construct and maintain a dedicated facility within an existing US airbase” to offer “advanced training and to enhance interoperability in defending and advancing our shared interests around the world,” al-Ansari said in a statement.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic strait and the world is using it. We have always considered this region an important strategic area and defended it so that this sea route wouldn’t be closed.

We didn’t want the strait to be shut. But look, let me ask this: Should the world uses this strait, while we don’t? Their oil and gas tankers pass while ours are not allowed to? Well, that’s clearly not logical.

That’s why our leaders will make a decision and I am a soldier in the field which will execute this order [if they do]. But what we want is for the world’s oil and gas gates to remain open.

The Persian Gulf is our home. We constantly say: US & foreign forces are disrupting security; they do not create security for us. To remain in the region they need to manufacture enemies — they say “Iran does this or that.” We have not attacked any country throughout history — for 300 years Iran has not attacked any country, provided it is not attacked first. But if our interests are threatened, we will defend them.”

Leaked US files reveal secret Israeli-Arab military pact targeting Iran amid war on Gaza: The Washington Post
——
Leaked US military documents have exposed a covert security partnership between Israel and six key Arab states, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, forged under the leadership of US Central Command, even as these countries publicly condemned Israel’s war on Gaza.

Behind the scenes, the parties held years of secret meetings and joint trainings in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and the US, focusing on countering Iran and combating underground tunnel warfare used by Hamas and other resistance factions in Gaza.

The partnership, known as the “Regional Security Construct,” began in 2022 and quietly expanded through 2025, linking the countries into a shared air-defense network designed to monitor Iranian missiles and drones.

The leaked files also reveal US plans to establish a “Combined Middle East Cyber Center” and an “Information Fusion Center” to further integrate Israeli and Arab security capabilities. It also involved onboarding partners to a US-run secure chat system, distributing intelligence and operational material through the 'Five Eyes network' (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Britain, and the United States), sharing radar and sensor data to build a joint regional picture, and coordinating information operations to undermine Iran’s narrative as the regional protector of Palestinians while promoting a partner narrative of prosperity and cooperation.

This shadow alliance was thrown into turmoil after Israel’s 9 September airstrike on Doha targeting Hamas leaders. Netanyahu later issued an apology to Qatar under pressure from Washington, but the incident exposed the fragility of the cooperation. US radar systems had failed to detect the Israeli strike because they were focused on Iran, a revelation that deepened mistrust among Arab partners.

While Arab leaders, including those of Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, have publicly denounced Israel’s campaign in Gaza as “genocidal,” their militaries were simultaneously working alongside Israel and the US on security planning tied to Trump’s ceasefire plan, which envisions Arab participation in Gaza’s postwar security arrangements. Around 200 US troops are set to deploy to Israel to support the ceasefire agreement, with several of the Arab states involved expected to contribute forces.

Iran convicts two French nationals of espionage linked to Israel
Iran’s judiciary says two French nationals have been handed lengthy prison terms after being convicted on multiple charges, including spying for Israel.

According to the judiciary’s Mizan Online website, the pair were found guilty of “spying for the French intelligence”, “association to commit a crime against national security” and “intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime”.

Their names have not been made public.

Trump cannot be both ‘President of Peace’ and ‘President of War’: Araghchi
Following Trump’s call for dialogue on Monday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the US president can “either be a President of Peace or a President of War, but he cannot be both at the same time”.

“One can hardly be branded as President of Peace while provoking endless wars and aligning with war criminals,” he posted on X.

In June, the US joined Israel in striking Iranian nuclear facilities after five rounds of indirect nuclear talks with Tehran.

Araghchi said the US president has been misled regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.

“It is more than clear by now that POTUS has been badly fed the fake line that Iran’s peaceful nuclear program was on the verge of weaponisation this spring,” the foreign minister said. “That is simply a big lie and he should have been informed that there is zero proof of that, as confirmed by his own intelligence community.”

Araghchi also called Israel “the real bully of the Middle East”, and that it “has long been bullying and milking the United States”.

Tehran says Trump’s peace offering to Iran at ‘odds’ with US actions
Iran says President Trump’s call for a peace deal with Tehran is inconsistent with Washington’s actions, referring to its strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June.

“The desire for peace and dialogue expressed by the US president is at odds with the hostile and criminal behaviour of the United States towards the Iranian people,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

During a Monday speech at the Israeli Knesset, Trump said he wanted a peace deal with Iran and that the ball was in Tehran’s court for any agreement to come to pass.

“How can one attack the residential areas and nuclear facilities of a country in the midst of political negotiations, kill more than 1,000 people, including innocent women and children, and then demand peace and friendship?” the Foreign Ministry said.

🇮🇷| The IRGC Navy officially announces seizing an oil tanker in violation, off the southern coast of Makran

The rapid-reaction units of the IRGC Navy, after receiving a judicial order at 7:30 AM yesterday to seize the cargo of an oil tanker named “Talara,” sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, began monitoring its movements and proceeded to intercept and seize it.

The tanker was carrying 30,000 tons of petrochemical materials and was en route to Singapore. It was guided to anchorage this morning for investigation of its violations.

The IRGC Navy stated that this operation was carried out in line with its legal duties and in order to protect the national interests and resources of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and under the order of judicial authorities. They added that accurate reporting required a full examination of the cargo, inspection of the tanker, and review of its documents — a process that has now been successfully completed, confirming that the tanker was in violation for transporting unauthorized cargo.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says that retaliation for Israel's assassination of Hezbollah Commander Haitham Ali al-Tabtabai will be “crushing” and will “come at its designated time."

Statement by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC):

– "Contrary to the dreams of the United States, the Zionist regime, and other complicit criminals, the Resistance Axis is alive and dynamic. The blood of martyrs does not extinguish Resistance; rather, it strengthens the flames of hope and determination in the hearts of the world’s free people and the faithful, brave fighters of the Resistance across the region."

– "Without a doubt, the right of the Resistance Axis and Hezbollah in Lebanon to avenge the blood of the courageous Islamic fighters is preserved, and at the appointed time, a crushing response awaits the terrorist aggressor."

– "The Islamic Ummah and the world’s free and justice‑seeking nations view this assassination as part of a psychological war and a desperate attempt by the criminal, wolf‑like Zionist regime to conceal its internal crises and successive battlefield defeats, particularly against the steadfast Lebanese resistance and the dear and powerful Hezbollah, as well as the resilient and resolute Palestinian resistance. They believe such actions will lead only to further failure for the regime and greater global disgust and condemnation."

– "The Resistance Axis, across all arenas: military, political, media, and popular, will, with unity and sacred resolve, continue on the path toward liberating Jerusalem and removing the cancerous tumor of the fake and usurping Zionist regime, until final victory over the occupiers of Palestine’s holy land and Al‑Quds al‑Sharif (Jerusalem)."

War is very likely. In a documentary, they had admitted they rehearsed the 12-day war full and real conditions. This is exactly that.

They want to probe Iran’s reaction time, radar readiness, and fighter scramble response.

They may also want to put pressure on Iran as Iran has rapidly been rebuilding its defenses & upgrading them even more, and Israel knows this which worries them, prompting the Israelis to war.

MintPress News: An Iran-affiliated hacking group named Handala recently claimed responsibility for placing a bouquet of flowers inside the car of a senior Israeli nuclear scientist.

The "Handala for Justice and Popular Resistance" group announced on Telegram that its operatives accessed a senior Israeli nuclear scientist's vehicle and left a bouquet in a clay vase, along with a note.

The accompanying note read, "You received our bouquet. A harmless object, at first glance. But you noticed its weight, didn't you?".

This served as a psychological intimidation tactic, suggesting the group had close access.

The action was reportedly timed to coincide with the anniversary of Israel's assassination of Iranian nuclear physicist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in November 2020.

Israeli comptroller blasts Defense Ministry over neglect of critical infrastructure impacted by Iran war
——
According to the Jerusalem Post, State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman has accused the Defense Ministry, the Israeli military, and the National Security Council of failing to implement physical defenses for Israel’s critical infrastructure, leaving sites vulnerable to missile attacks.

During the June war, Iranian ballistic strikes hit locations including Beersheba’s medical center, the Haifa Bazan oil refinery, and laboratories at the Weizmann Institute. Englman noted that these vulnerabilities were first flagged in 2011 and highlighted in a 2020 report, yet nearly all recommendations have been ignored.

Englman stressed that physical defenses are distinct from Israel’s air-defense systems, which, while effective, are not foolproof. He argued that the lack of mapping of critical sites, absence of legal frameworks for protection, unclear funding responsibilities, and political gridlock have all hindered progress.

The report criticizes the Defense Ministry for deflecting responsibility between divisions, slow responses during wartime, and ignoring NSC deadlines.

Cyber resistance group Handala posts bounties for 'masterminds behind Israel's war drones'
——
In a statement released on Saturday, the cyber resistance group known as Handala said it had published the names and detailed profiles of 14 individuals it described as key designers involved in Israel’s drone programs. The group claimed these individuals play a central role in the development and advancement of drone technologies used in Israeli military operations.

Handala alleged that the drone programs have been widely employed in actions it characterized as war crimes and violations of international law against civilians. By publicizing the identities and professional backgrounds of those named, the group said it aims to highlight what it described as their direct responsibility in the targeting of civilian populations.

The group added that the move is intended to promote accountability and support broader international efforts focused on justice. Handala also stated that it has assigned a monetary value of $30,000 to each of the individuals named in its release.

"NBC reports today that Netanyahu will press Trump on December 29 to restart war with Iran.

As I wrote in August, Netanyahu was poised to restart the war. The question is whether Trump will cave to him again.

I write today that if Trump does so, Netanyahu will be back in another six months with another war plan for Americans to give their blood and tax dollars to.

This will go on endlessly until Trump decides to end it.

He should end it on December 29. >>"

I disagree with Trita Parsi's analysis a bit here - Trump has already caved, he caved years ago, and if he hadn't already caved then he wouldn't even be president. The only thing that will stop more war with Iran is force, destruction of the war machine from within.

Iran takes control of seized smuggled fuel tanker worth over $5 million
——
Iranian authorities have ordered the transfer of a recently seized oil tanker and its fuel cargo, valued at more than $5 million, into state ownership, according to the chief justice of Hormozgan Province. Mojtaba Ghahremani announced the decision on Friday, two days after the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) intercepted the foreign vessel near Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf.

The tanker was carrying around 4 million liters of smuggled fuel, he said, noting that the move follows direct instructions from Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei to intensify efforts against fuel smuggling. The ship and its cargo, worth more than $5.2 million, will be taken over by the state.

IRGC forces also detained 16 crew members aboard the vessel and handed them to judicial authorities. Ghahremani said a legal case has been opened with the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Qeshm to address the violations linked to the tanker.

Sounds like CIA nonsense. A coherent protest would have actual demands. What are the demands for dealing with "weak currency"? Pretty hard to motivate coherent demands with such a wonky concern. It's of course especially unlikely to be an organic protest after an unprovoked attack against the country earlier this year had a rally-around-the-flag effect in Iran. A lot of people still don't agree with an Islamic state but they support the government in defending them. The younger generation in Iran which had some leanings towards peace with Israel and the US has finally learned some appreciation for what the older generation has been talking about for a long time.

I wouldn't be surprised if an llm bot made its way in here. I've even seen bots make accounts on tiny self-hosted instances of code hosting sites and matrix chat servers, posting on an open image board should be trivial for them.

Like zionists, these bots migrate to a site and pretend to be one of the netizens. They're mimics.

I'm reminded of a post that I can't find about an israeli colonizer who made a post on social media that was very much like picrel, only they got called out for pretending to weave, what they were doing in the picture made no actual sense. And actually that kind of mimic behavior freaks me out a bit, it's uncanny.

MintPress News:
Resistance Axis-linked hacker group Handala has intensified a "hack-and-leak" campaign targeting the inner circle of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming to possess sensitive information that could lead to a major political scandal dubbed "BibiGate".

Handala has warned of a "vault of secrets" that will expose a "double life" led by Netanyahu's chief of staff, with the intent to destabilize the Israeli political ecosystem.

Key Targets and Claims

Tzachi Braverman: On December 28, 2025, the group claimed to have breached the iPhone of Netanyahu’s chief of staff. They alleged access to encrypted chats, financial records, and evidence of "secret deals, blackmail, and bribes".

Ayelet Shaked: On January 3, 2026, Handala claimed it hacked the phone of the former Justice Minister, releasing dozens of private photos and videos under the title "The Queen’s Secrets."

Naftali Bennett: In late December 2025, the group successfully breached the former Prime Minister's Telegram account, leaking a 141-page contact list that included personal numbers for world leaders like Emmanuel Macron and Mohammed bin Zayed.

The Prime Minister’s Office initially stated that "no breach has been identified" and that they are investigating the reports as a potential Iranian influence operation. However, an investigation by Haaretz on January 6, 2026, described the leaks as a severe information security failure that has put dozens of senior officials at risk of foreign espionage.

NEW: Secretariat of the SNSC:

Security forces and the judiciary will show no leniency toward saboteurs.

In light of the terrorist actions carried out by rioters and elements affiliated with the intelligence services of the Zionist regime and the US in some parts of the country, the Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) has issued a statement.

The full statement is as follows:

Great nation of Iran;

During the 12-day war up to today, the Zionist regime has continued its oppression of Iranians through hybrid warfare. While it may change its tactics from time to time, it has not abandoned its belligerence toward the resilient Iranian nation.

Although the recent incidents began as protests against market instability, they were drawn into scenes of insecurity in the country through the guidance and design of the Zionist enemy.

Trump’s statements in recent days also indicate a joint design between these 2 regimes to undermine the security of the Iranian people’s lives. The great Iranian nation, through its national solidarity, forced the enemy to accept a strategic defeat during the 12-day war, and today as well, through unity and cohesion, it will render their sabotage tactics ineffective.

No honorable person would allow national symbols such as the flag to be insulted… let alone set on fire.

No dignified Iranian would allow the statue of the symbol of national resistance, Haj Qassem Soleimani, to be insulted, let alone burned.

No free Iranian would allow a symbol of national identity such as the House of God [mosques/holy sites] to be desecrated, or worse, set on fire. Insecurity for a nation is intolerable from any government or country.

It is clear that those who protested economic conditions would not act in ways that worsen economic damage or add insecurity on top of existing economic problems.

The presence of security and police forces is aimed at preventing insecurity in the country.

These forces, standing alongside the proud and steadfast nation, will neutralize the destabilization plot of the Zionist regime and its patron, the US, and will provide a secure environment for the people’s lives.

On this path, the security forces and the judiciary will show no leniency toward saboteurs.

Iranian authorities cut off phone service and internet access Thursday in the capital and in several parts of the country as mass protests and chanting against the government continue, with dozens of people killed in the demonstrations and thousands arrested. Multiple sources in Tehran told CBS News the internet was down in the capital.

Pahlavi successfully spurred protesters onto the streets Thursday night in a massive escalation of the protests sweeping Iran. Initially sparked by the Islamic Republic’s ailing economy, the demonstrations have become a serious challenge to its theocracy, battered by years of nationwide protests and a 12-day war in June launched by Israel that saw the U.S. bomb nuclear enrichment sites.

This is a tactic that we have seen in Tunisia, Libya, Syria, and, of course, Ukraine, where ultra-right forces unleashed sniper rounds into crowds during the Maidan protests. These attacks were blamed on the government—a false flag that paved the way for the toppling of the Yanukovych administration. IRGC intelligence body says continuation of violence ‘unacceptable”
The intelligence organisation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has released a statement echoing the earlier words of President Masoud Pezeshkian, condemning violence committed during the nationwide protests and calling the incidents “terrorist” in nature.

“We warn that continuation of this situation is unacceptable and the blood of the victims of recent terrorist incidents is on the hands of its planners, and the Iranian people consider it legitimate to compensate and prevent the spread of insecurity for themselves”, the statement, carried by the state-linked Student News Network.

Tasnim news agency reported earlier that at least 109 security personnel had been killed in the protests, but opposition activists say the total death toll is much higher and includes dozens of protesters. Al Jazeera cannot independently verify either figure.

The intelligence organisation also said in its statement that it considers maintaining community security in Iran a “red line”.

In comments carried by the semiofficial Tasnim news agency, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei says that “under no circumstances” will there be leniency towards anyone caught participating in riots during the ongoing protests in Iran.

“In order to quickly and accurately handle the cases of the rioters, special branches composed of capable, experienced, and brave judges have been appointed throughout the country,” he said, according to Tasnim.

State TV airs funerals of security force members killed in protests
Iranian state television has had correspondents appear on the streets in several cities to show calm areas with a date stamp on the screen. Tehran and Mashhad were not included.

They also showed pro-government demonstrations in Qom and Qazvin.

Ali Larijani, a top security official, went on state TV to accuse some demonstrators of “killing people or burning some people, which is very similar to what ISIS does” – referring to the armed group also known as ISIL.

State TV aired the funerals of slain security force members while reporting another six had been killed in Kermanshah.

In Fars province, violence killed 13 people, and seven security forces were killed in North Khorasan province, it added. It also showed a pick-up truck full of bodies in body bags and later a morgue.

What did Pezeshkian say in his interview on state television?
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has pledged to overhaul Iran’s struggling economy, saying his government is “ready to listen to its people” while accusing the United States and Israel of trying to “sow chaos and disorder” by directing elements of the unrest.

He acknowledged that the people “have concerns”, stating that “we should sit with them, and if it is our duty, we should resolve their concerns”.

However, he warned, “The higher duty is not to allow a group of rioters to come and destroy the entire society.”

‘Situation seems calmer in Iran tonight’
By Tohid Asadi
Reporting from Tehran, Iran

I can say, tonight, the situation looks a little bit, I emphasise, a little bit, calmer compared to Thursday.

It seems that there is a cooling down of the protests.

Another point is the recent pro-state demonstrations. One big one is scheduled for tomorrow, and for the past few days, we have been seeing some gatherings and rallies, specifically in the mosques, which were targeted by protesters, showing that some people are trying to send a message of solidarity that was previously sent by the supreme leader of the country [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei].

He asked for keeping unity [in the country] under this situation.

https://aje.io/qoyxxy?update=4231386

‘Gap in perception of protests between domestic and international audiences’
Analyst Hassan Ahmadian says there are significant differences between how people inside Iran view the ongoing demonstrations and how they’re perceived abroad.

“What we rely on in trying to gauge where things are moving is basically the national internet that is within Iran and satellites that people have access to watch international media,” Ahmadian, an academic at the University of Tehran, told Al Jazeera.

These are now the two main “connecting routes” for information inside the country, he added.

Coverage by foreign opposition media suggests “huge numbers” of Iranians on the streets, while content on domestic platforms and the national internet is “drastically different”, said Ahmadian.

Demonstrations in the capital Tehran appear to have diminished since late last week. “Thursday was the peak, I would say, and afterwards it’s [protests] been going down,” Ahmadian said.

Trump says US military considering ‘very strong options’ for Iran
US president says Washington is closely monitoring protests in Iran and considering possible military intervention.

United States President Donald Trump has said that Washington is considering “strong options” in response to the protests in Iran, including possible military intervention.

“We’re looking at it very seriously. The military is looking at it, and we’re looking at some very strong options. We’ll make a determination,” he told reporters on board Air Force One late on Sunday.

He said Iran’s leadership had called, seeking “to negotiate” after his threats of military action, and that a “meeting is being set up”.

But he added that “we may have to act before a meeting”.

Trump’s latest threat came as Iranian leaders issued a stark warning against military intervention, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf saying “In the case of an attack on Iran, the occupied territories [Israel] as well as all US bases and ships will be our legitimate target”.

The protests began on December 28, when merchants at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar closed their shops over the Iranian rial’s plummeting value. The demonstrations quickly spread nationwide, with grievances evolving from economic concerns over soaring living costs to broader opposition against Iran’s clerical establishment, who have governed the country since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

According to Iranian state media, at least 109 security personnel have been killed during the unrest, and authorities have not confirmed the number of demonstrators who have lost their lives.

But opposition activists based outside the country say the death toll is higher and includes hundreds of protesters.

A nationwide internet blackout has also persisted for more than 72 hours, according to monitoring groups.

The unrest in Iran is unfolding as Trump pursues an assertive foreign policy, having abducted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, and discussing acquiring Greenland by purchase or force.

Trump was scheduled to meet with senior advisers on Tuesday to discuss options for Iran, a US official told the Reuters news agency. The Wall Street Journal reported that options included military strikes, using secret cyberweapons, widening sanctions and providing online help to antigovernment sources.

Trump said on Sunday that he plans to speak with billionaire Elon Musk about restoring internet in Iran.

“He’s very good at that kind of thing, he’s got a very good company,” Trump told reporters in response to a question about whether he would engage with Musk’s SpaceX company, which offers a satellite internet service called Starlink that has been used in Iran.

The US leader also spoke on his plans for Greenland and Venezuela.

On Greenland, he called for the Danish Arctic territory to “make a deal”, and said “we are talking about acquiring it, not making a short term deal”.

On Venezuela, Trump confirmed he would be meeting with Venezuelan opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei:

The US President [Trump], who judges the entire world with arrogance, should know that tyrants, like the Pharaoh, Nimrod and the Pahlavi Dynasty and the like, were overthrown at the height of their pride.

Last night, saboteurs destroyed buildings in Tehran and other places in their own country to curry favor with the US President.

The US President stated that if the Iranian government takes action against the rioters, he will come and stand on their side. The rioters are pleased about this. If he can, he should govern his own country.

More than a thousand of our compatriots were killed in the Twelve-Day War. The US President claimed that he had given the order, thereby admitting that his hands were stained with the blood of Iranians. And boasts that he is a supporter of the Iranian nation.

Everyone should know that the IRI, which came to power with the blood of hundreds of thousands of honorable people, will not back down before the saboteurs. Whoever you may be, you are foreign mercenaries, the Iranian nation despises you

The Iranian people will not tolerate foreign mercenaries. The Iranian people are today better equipped and armed than before the revolution. Our spiritual weapons are stronger, and our conventional weapons are incomparable to those of that time.

America is committing today, as it has in the past, a misjudgment toward Iran.

Our enemies do not know Iran. In the past, the Americans were defeated due to faulty planning, and today they will be defeated due to their own faulty planning.

If God wills it, the feeling of victory will spread in the hearts of all Iranians.

Pro-government protests a ‘sign of backing’ the state domestically, internationally
By Tohid Asadi
Reporting from Tehran

Compared to Thursday night, we have been witnessing a tangible, considerable cooling down of anti-state protests.

We also witnessed today in the capital hundreds of thousands of people going out taking to the streets in a pro-state demonstration, and that is the same when it comes to other small and big cities in the country.

Many attended a pro-government demonstration to show that they have been responding to the call for solidarity and unity.

Also, it was a message that could be interpreted from an international perspective, seeing the very fact that over the last few days we have been witnessing the rhetoric from the American President Donald Trump, who has been directing threats against Iran and the possibility of intervention, or a possibility of a more escalated situation down the road.

So the presence of people today in support of the Islamic country shows a sign of backing the state, domestically and internationally.

It also gives, in a sense, what some experts here believe, a sort of green light for further tightened security measures when it comes to protests that at some point turn into violence.

Trump: Any country doing business with Iran faces 25 percent tariffs
Trump has announced immediate tariffs against countries that do business with Iran.

“Effective immediately, any Country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a Tariff of 25% on any and all business being done with the United States of America,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“This Order is final and conclusive. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

The president has regularly used tariffs to threaten countries over his foreign policy goals, with an upcoming Supreme Court decision expected to rule on their legality.

China blasts latest US tariff threat over Iran trade
China has criticised the Trump administration’s approach to Iran, warning against unilateral pressure as tensions continue to rise during protests across the country.

In a statement issued in Washington, DC, the Chinese embassy said Beijing “firmly opposes any illicit unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction”, and will take “all necessary measures” to safeguard its interests.

The comments come as President Donald Trump increases pressure on Tehran, saying countries that engage in trade with Iran will face a 25 percent tariff.

“China’s position against the indiscriminate imposition of tariffs is consistent and clear. Tariff wars and trade wars have no ‌winners, and coercion and pressure cannot solve problems,” an embassy spokesperson said.

Iran’s police chief claims terrorists killed protesters
Ahmad-Reza Radan, Iran’s national police chief, has claimed that security forces showed the “utmost restraint” and blamed protesters’ deaths on terrorists.

In an interview with state news agency SNN, Radan said that security forces were killed by bullets, but they were not allowed to shoot back as they tried to separate terrorists from protesters.

The terrorist” then turned to killing protesters, he claimed, adding that some protesters were killed by knife wounds.

Opposition activist groups outside the country say hundreds of protesters have been killed, while Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch reported the deaths of at least 28 as of January 3. The Iranian government says that more than 100 security service personnel were killed.

Al Jazeera cannot independently verify these figures.

More from Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi
We have more from Abbas Araghchi’s interview with Al Jazeera.

The foreign minister repeated his earlier statements asserting that “Trained terrorist elements infiltrated the crowds of protesters and targeted security forces and demonstrators”.

As for who is to blame, he said that there are “those trying to drag Washington into war in order to serve Israel’s interests”.

US President Donald Trump says he is considering several military options to hit Iran in response to its handling of the protests, while Iran has blamed the US and Israel for fomenting violence and chaos in the country over the past two weeks.

We’ll have more comments from the foreign minister shortly.

Iran says 10 arrested for murder, violence in Tehran, says they are ‘errorists
Tasnim, Iran’s semiofficial news agency, quoting Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, says that the 10 are part of a team that entered Tehran from a border province, and were responsible for the killings of two members of the Basij, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ volunteer paramilitary force, in the capital’s Heravi Square on January 7.

The Ministry of Intelligence claims in its statement that the arrested people “made important confessions about setting fire to mosques, banks, and people’s properties”.

It is the Iranian government’s position that much of the violence seen during the protests, including the killings of more than 100 security personnel, was perpetrated by terrorists aided by outside actors.

“From the beginning of our revolution [until] this time, we have had this experience many times, of America attacking Iran”, he tells Al Jazeera.

He said that the United States, Israel and all their allies “can’t finish the job” of bringing down Iran’s government, saying that it remains intact after all of the regime change rhetoric coming from the West during last year’s 12 Day War with Israel.

He dismissed charges of a brutal crackdown on protesters by the Iranian government, saying that things only turned violent after more than a week of civil unrest, blaming outside influence over armed groups inside Iran for the deaths that have occurred.

The conflict saw devastating attacks on population centres in Iran by Israel, and consistent Iranian return fire damaging several sites within Israeli territory. The US also attacked three [nuclear energy] sites within Iran.

“This hostile action was taken after Tasnim News Agency tried to inform the public and observers about the nature of the recent conspiracy against the people with real-time information in recent days,” the agency said in a statement.

In 2023, the US government imposed sanctions on Tasnim, accusing the agency of being controlled by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and contributing to the “regime’s systematic censorship”.

Washington has previously used sanctions to block websites affiliated with Iran and its allies in the region.

>I'm hearing that Iran killed 2000 of its own citizens, how true is this?
Zero evidence of that whatsoever.
The estimate a day or two ago from Iranian bodycounts was 109 security force members dead. It far exceeded civilian deaths at that point, and it's unlikely that the 2k number, if it is accurate, is just Iranian civilians. A number of dead civilians were also killed in the "riots," in which a few individuals were straight up just firing guns at security forces and random passersby. The claim that the dead were all killed by the security forces doesn't match up with visual evidence from Iran itself, as a number of "protesters" were caught on camera using guns, flamethrowers, and molotov cocktails to attack police and mosques and hospitals, as well as being filmed beating people to death in the street.

I wouldn't be even slightly shocked if the death toll of "protesters" now is much higher than it was a few days ago, but the reason for that is that the Iranian security forces went over a week basically letting these people run riot in an effort to avoid another high-casualty disaster like in the 2019 riots. Most of the "estimates" being thrown around in western media are coming from outside of the country, and Bari Weiss, fresh off of denying that there was famine in Gaza, is now using CBS (which was handed to her by Ellison) to make up even higher numbers, multiplying the highest current estimates by 10.

None of this accounts for Mossad's provocateurs, either, or operatives within Iran who have been recruited by Mossad. It's not unlikely that even the number of these agents in Iran is in the thousands, whether they have all been executed or not, and the EU and US would, if anything, cry even louder over a pile of corpses which was 100% Mossad. But as is, they make no distinction and there is no reliable number which claims that the entire death toll was created by the actions of the Iranian security forces. It's as accurate as claiming that every single "Israeli" who died during Al-Aqsa Flood was killed by IOF fire; I could claim it, some certainly were, but I would be telling a great big, fat lie if I were to claim to believe that 100% of the casualties were from the Hannibal Directive. Western media and Hasbarist propagandists are happy to tell big lies, though.

Western media whitewashes deadly riots in Iran, relying on US govt-funded regime change NGOs
As deadly riots burn Iranian cities, Western media ignores the shocking wave of violence, turning instead to US government-funded NGOs for data. The one-sided portrayal has helped push Trump to the brink of authorizing renewed US attacks.
Western media has ignored a growing trove of video evidence showing terrorist tactics deployed across Iran by protesters described by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch as “largely peaceful.” Recent videos published both by Iranian state media and anti-government forces reveal public lynchings of unarmed guards, the torching of mosques, arson attacks on municipal buildings, marketplaces and fire stations, and mobs of armed gunmen opening fire in the heart of Iranian cities.

Instead, Western media has focused almost exclusively on violence attributed to the Iranian government. In doing so, they have relied heavily on death counts compiled by Iranian diaspora groups funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the regime change arm of the US government, and whose boards of directors are filled with committed neoconservatives.

The NED has taken credit for advancing the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests which filled Iranian cities throughout 2023 – and which also featured gruesome acts of violence ignored by Western media and human rights NGOs. Today, the NED is far from alone among the intelligence-aligned actors seeking to fuel the chaos inside Iran.

The Israeli spying and assassination agency known as Mossad issued a message from its official Farsi language account on Twitter/X urging Iranians to escalate their regime change activities, pledging that it would be supporting them on the ground.

“Go out together into the streets. The time has come,” Mossad instructed Iranians. “We are with you. Not only from a distance and verbally. We are with you in the field.”

Toppling Tehran through terror

Protests began in Iran in early January 2026 when merchants took to the streets to demonstrate against rising inflation rates triggered by Western sanctions. Iran’s government responded sympathetically to the bazaar protests, providing them with police protection. However, these demonstrations quickly dissolved, as an amorphous mass of anti-government elements seized the moment to launch a violent insurrection encouraged by governments from Israel to the US – and by self-proclaimed “Crown Prince” Reza Pahlavi, who has branded government workers and state media outlets as “legitimate targets.”

On January 9, the city of Mashhad became the scene of some of the most intense riots, as anti-government forces torched fire stations, burning fire fighters alive, while setting buses alight, attacking city workers, vandalizing Metro stations and causing over $18 million in damage, according to local municipal authorities.

In Kermanshah, where anti-government rioters shot and killed 3 year-old Melina Asadi, groups of militants were filmed firing automatic weapons at police. In cities from Hamedan to Lorestan, rioters have filmed themselves beating unarmed security guards to death for attempting to impede their rampages.

Footage has emerged from the central Iranian city of rioters attacking a public bus and setting it aflame on January 10.

In Tehran, meanwhile, mobs of rioters have attacked the historic Abazar Mosque, burning its interior, while others conducted arson attacks and burned copies of the Quran inside the Grand Mosque of Sarableh and the Muhammad ibn Musa al-Kadhim shrine in Kuzestan.

Rioters have set fire to a large municipal building in the heart of the city of Karaj, while burning the marketplace to the ground in central Rasht. In Borujen, anti-government hooligans reportedly torched a historic library filled with ancient texts during a night of looting and destruction.

None of these incidents have elicited any reaction from Western media outlets or governments, even after the Iranian foreign ministry obliged ambassadors from Britain, France, Germany, and Italy to view footage of the violence carried out by rioters firsthand.

According to the Iranian government, over 100 police and security officers have been killed during the unrest. However, a pair of Iranian NGOs based in Washington and funded by the US government has set the death toll on the government’s side at a much lower figure. These groups have become the go-to source for Western media on the protests.

Regime change lobbyists set the agenda

In assessing the death toll in Iran, outlets throughout the US and Europe have depended on two NGOs based in Washington and funded by the US government’s National Endowment for Democracy: the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran and Human Rights Activists in Iran.

A 2024 press release by the NED explicitly described the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran as “a partner of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).”

Elsewhere, a 2021 statement from Human Rights Activists in Iran states that the group “expanded its network and decided to start receiving financial aid from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a non-governmental and non-profit organization based in the United States” after it was accused by the Iran government of ties to the CIA in 2010.

The NED was created under the watch of the Reagan administration’s CIA director, William Casey, to enable the government to continue meddling abroad despite widespread distrust in US intelligence services. One of its founders, Allen Weinstein, famously admitted, “a lot of what we do today was done covertly 25 years ago by the CIA.”

While failing to acknowledge the NGO’s funding from NED, The Washington Post and ABC News have cited the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center prominently in their coverage of Iranian protests. Seated on the Center’s board of directors is Francis Fukuyama, the ideologue who signed the Project for a New American Century’s founding letter – perhaps the most important manifesto of modern neoconservatism.

Figures from the suggestively-named “Human Rights Activists in Iran” have circulated even more widely, with the NGO’s recent estimated death toll of 544 people cited by dozens of US and Israeli mainstream outlets across the political spectrum, as well as by Dropsite. The “shadow CIA” intelligence firm Stratfor has also cited the NGO in an article entitled, “Protests in Iran Provide a Window for U.S. and/or Israeli Intervention.”

With the precise number of casualties from the protests still difficult to ascertain, a motley crew of online influencers has filled the information void with overblown, dubiously sourced claims. These propagandists include the noted Jewish supremacist Trump confidant Laura Loomer, who crowed that “the death count of Iranian protesters killed by the Islamic regimes’ forces is now over 6,000!,” citing a supposed “source in the Intel community.”

The digital casino Polymarket also inflated the death toll, claiming without sourcing that “over 10,000” people had been killed by “Iranian Forces [using] Automatic Rifles on Protesters,” and falsely stating that Iran had “lost nearly all control” of three of its five largest cities.

In recent months, Polymarket has become notorious for allowing insiders to abuse advanced knowledge of political developments – such as the recent US military assault on Caracas and their abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro – to rake in hundreds of thousands of dollars. The self-described “world’s largest prediction market” was established with a major investment from AI warlord Peter Thiel, and now features Donald Trump Jr. as an advisor.

By spreading clearly inflated death tolls, regime change activists and Trump cronies are apparently goading the notoriously gullible president into launching another military assault on Tehran.

In a January 7 assessment of the protests, Stratfor described the chaos in Iran’s streets as an enticing opportunity for war, writing, “While unlikely to collapse the regime, the ongoing unrest could open the door for Israel or the United States to conduct covert or overt activities aimed at further destabilizing the Iranian government, either indirectly by encouraging the protests or directly via military action against Iranian leaders.”

However, the CIA contractor acknowledged that “renewed military strikes on Iran would also likely put an end to the current protest movement by leading instead to a wider display of Iranian nationalism and unity, a pattern observed after U.S. and Israeli strikes in 2025.”

‘Locked and loaded’

Iran’s latest round of anti-government protests has predictably received hearty endorsements from a host of Western leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump.

“If Iran shots [sic] and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue,” Trump announced. “We are locked and loaded and ready to go.”

Days later, Trump threatened Iran again: “You better not start shooting [protesters] – because we’ll start shooting too.” Then, on Jan. 12, Trump decreed that any country caught trading with Iran would face a 25% tariff on goods exchanged with the US.

Now, Trump is reportedly mulling an attack, considering options ranging from cyber-warfare to airstrikes. However, the pace of the anti-government protests appears to have slowed, with relative calm returning to major cities.

As the dust clears, millions of Iranian citizens are pouring into the streets of cities from Tehran to Mashhad to express their indignation at the riots, to denounce the foreign elements that helped spur the regime change rampage, and to proclaim their support for the government. But in newsrooms across the West, giving voice to these masses of Iranian demonstrators seems forbidden.

The situation now is quite calm compared with the previous days. From Thursday night onwards, when we saw the unrest flare up into violence, we are now witnessing less and less.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Iranians showed up at a mass rally in support of the government on Monday.

The leadership is interpreting this as a sort of green light to tighten security measures against what it calls “rioters” or “terrorist groups”. State television has shown images of unidentified people carrying guns and attacking civilians.

The situation appears relatively calm at the moment, but following comments from President Trump, there is confusion and fear. If you speak to people here, there is an air of frustration and fear of further escalation.

Iran protests subside: ‘We haven’t seen any more riots’
Foad Izadi, a professor at the University of Tehran, says demonstrations in Iran appear to be under control with no major unrest in recent days.

“I haven’t seen any protest in the last 48 to 72 hours,” Izadi told Al Jazeera when asked about the situation on the ground. “We haven’t seen any more riots.”

Addressing ongoing internet restrictions, Izadi linked the measures to security concerns and referred to the June 2025 war with Israel.

“Israeli Mossad agents used Iran’s infrastructure to communicate,” and operated a command-and-control centre that was later discovered during the attack, he noted.

Izadi said a number of “rioters were shooting at police and shooting at shopkeepers” who refused to close their businesses during the protests.

“We have rioters killing shopkeepers,” he said.

Iran condemns ‘inhumane’ US sanctions as economy tanks
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned new US sanctions, describing them as illegal and motivated by what it called “deep-rooted hatred” towards the country.

The measures are “inhumane” and violate the principles of the UN Charter and international law, the ministry said in a statement.

Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei warned that the sanctions will have serious consequences beyond Iran because unilateral US measures undermine the global trading system.

The UN and its institutions have a responsibility to uphold international law and prevent what he described as coercive economic actions.

Trump has said countries engaging in trade with Iran face a 25 percent tariff on any business done with the United States.
