Updates and current status since the start of the last thread:
(largely civilian) Palestinian death toll has now passed 72,700. Excess deaths have been estimated by The Lancet to plausibly be upwards of 186,000.

Italian workers' unions launched a massive general strike in October over the shipping of weapons through Italian ports which are being used in Israel's genocide, and launched another strike in November.

In early January 2025, Israel agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza and a prisoner exchange. Israel unilaterally broke the ceasefire. In October 2025, another ceasefire and prisoner exchange was agreed upon in Gaza, and Israel has proceeded to kill over 900 Palestinians in Gaza since agreeing. Israel has also refused to allow the agreed-upon amount of aid into Gaza.

Israel attacked Iran utilizing a large number of assets embedded in Iran, killing multiple scientists and high ranking Iranian military officials, as well as targeting schools, hospitals, oil assets, and a TV station. Around one thousand Iranians were killed in Israel's strikes on civilian targets like residential buildings. Iran retaliated with a series of waves of missile and drone attacks which hit multiple Israeli military targets including IDF HQ, Mossad HQ, as well as an Israeli oil field. After an Iranian strike on Unit 8200, the number of online Zionist apologists conspicuously reduced for a while. The Israeli government, embarrassed by the damage to Tel Aviv, heavily censored footage and reporting of Iranian strikes on Israel, resulting in the Israeli police arresting journalists and citizens for filming sites of impact, while rich Israelis fled by boat due to the closure of Ben-Gurion airport. Iran began a crackdown on Israeli terror cells, finding and closing multiple Mossad-linked covert drone factories, as well as reportedly arresting groups involved in sabotage, and multiple individuals reportedly linked to German & Indian spy agencies.

Renewed US/Israeli attacks on Iran led to the destruction of multiple US bases in west Asia and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The US mercenary front called the GHF has reportedly disbanded.

Israel has continued to violate the ceasefire with Lebanon more than 1000 times, and has refused to leave the country entirely after multiple delays. Israel again returned to bombing Beirut in November. This series of violations prompted retaliation from Hezbollah, whose fiber optic drones have been virtually impossible for the occupation forces to counter.

Syrian president Bashar al-Assad was overthrown by US-backed al-Qaeda operatives. Israel has since attacked and continued to occupy Syria with no retaliation, as well as abducting and displacing Syrian citizens while the Syrian government targets only Syrians and Lebanon, and defends US bases in Syria.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netnayahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The ICC also issued warrants against Hamas leaders. Additionally, it was revealed that in April the ICC filed a warrant for the arrest of Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

Following the warrants, the Biden invited Yoav Gallant to the White House, and the Trump administration invited Netanyahu to the White House multiple times. Bezalel Smotrich then appeared at a pro-genocide march in NYC on May 31, 2026.

Israel has launched more attacks on the West Bank.

More countries have joined South Africa's legal case at the International Court of Justice against Israel for the crime of genocide. Cuba, Ireland, Belize, Palestine, Turkey, Spain, Mexico, Libya, Chile, and Colombia have joined the South African case against Israel. Egypt, Belgium, and Maldives have also declared their intention to join. Nicaragua has withdrawn from the case.

Following the October agreement in Gaza, Yemeni Ansar Allah attacks in solidarity with Gaza have temporarily ceased.

Demonstrators have continued to blockade and damage arms factories manufacturing weapons for Israel in the UK. Palestine Action broke into a UK military base, damaging two planes of a type which the UK government has used to aid in Israel's genocide of Palestine. Following this, the UK government under Starmer proscribed Palestine Action as a terrorist group, despite direct action being a legal form of protest in the UK. Hundreds of arrests have followed, and continued for months over people holding placards.

The US gov't continued shipping weapons to Israel, in violation of US law.

The new US administration has started unlawfully abducting students for protest and opposition to genocide. The administration has threatened to deport these students, and has gone after university funding in an effort to suppress anti-genocide speech on campuses and control the narrative. Mahmoud Khalil was later released.

Israel attacked the Global Sumud Flotilla boats, abducting their crews in Palestinian waters and subjecting many to torture. This repeated in May of 2026, when activists were abducted by the IOF from boats in international waters near Greece, and then again near Cyprus. The Greek and Cypriot governments have offered no resistance, nor have most nations whose citizens are now being freely bombed, abducted, and tortured by the IOF from boats in international waters while sailing to land which the Israelis have no rights over. The EU responded by sanctioning Hamas.

In June 2025, the Global March to Gaza, a peaceful humanitarian mission to get aid into Gaza through the Egyptian Rafah crossing, was blocked by the US-backed El-Sisi government. Hundreds of marchers were arrested and harrassed at the crossing by the Egyptian military. El-Sisi's collaborationist government has, since, abducted activists for expressing sympathy with Palestine.

Israel's former top military lawyer, major general Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi was arrested by Israel after leaking a video of the IDF gang raping Palestinian detainees, which was seen by the Israeli state as bad PR. Western MSM later admitted even further IDF use of rape as torture.

The US congress has advanced an American-Israeli military integration plan with a provision in the 2027 draft US defence bill.

And much, much more!

US Congress advances American-Israeli military integration plan
A provision in the 2027 draft US defence bill could bind the two countries’ weapons industries closer than ever.

A provision in a bill before the United States Congress could tie the American and Israeli militaries far more closely together, deepening their cooperation on weapons research, production and technology.

The proposal, titled the “United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative,” appears as Section 224 of the House Armed Services Committee’s version of the fiscal year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the annual US defence policy bill.

The measure is still at an early stage. The NDAA is passed by Congress each year to set US military policy and authorise defence programmes and spending levels.

If enacted, the provision could mark a major change in one of the world’s closest military relationships, shifting the two countries from a partnership centred largely on American military aid towards one in which their defence industries are more deeply intertwined.

Section 224 would require the US defence secretary to appoint an “executive agent”: a single official to coordinate military cooperation between the US and Israel.

That work would cover joint research and development, the shared production of weapons, and the linking of military systems and data.

“What Congress is trying to do now is find different ways of entrenching the relationship so deep in America’s own defence industrial base that it’s impossible to root it out,” Josh Paul, a former US State Department official and founder of the advocacy group A New Policy, said about the controversial provision.

“A new section of law in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would give Israel unprecedented access to American technology and would force the United States military to integrate Israeli defence technologies into our own critical military supply chain, giving Israel incredible leverage over America’s own defence priorities,” he added in a video posted on social media on Friday.

The bill would extend their joint work into many more areas of modern warfare, from artificial intelligence (AI) to drones and cyber operations.

The provision comes amid turmoil in the Middle East following the joint US-Israeli attack on Iran earlier this year.

In February, US and Israeli forces attacked Iran together, triggering five weeks of war; Iran struck back at Israel and at US bases in the Gulf before a ceasefire took hold in April.

Israel is also facing genocide allegations (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/10/22/icj-says-israel-must-allow-aid-into-blockaded-gaza-provide-basic-needs) in a case brought by South Africa at the International Court of Justice, the UN’s top court, over its war on Gaza.

Decades of support
The bill must first clear the House Armed Services Committee, which is due to take it up in early June, and then pass the full House and the Senate.

It was proposed by the committee’s Republican chairman, Mike Rogers, and its most senior Democrat, Adam Smith, giving it support from both main parties, even as opinion polls suggest growing opposition among American Democrats and some Republicans to further military support for Israel.

The US has supported Israel’s military for decades.

Since 2008, US law has required Washington to protect Israel’s “qualitative military edge”, keeping its forces stronger and more advanced than those of any rival in the region, on the grounds that a small country must rely on better weapons rather than greater numbers.

Under the current aid deal signed during the administration of former President Barack Obama, Washington provides Israel with about $3.8bn a year in military assistance. The 10-year agreement runs through 2028.

Israel is the largest recipient of US foreign aid since 1948, almost all of it now military and worth well over $300bn when adjusted for inflation.

The nature of that support may now be changing. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said recently that he wants to end Israel’s reliance on US military aid within 10 years, saying his country had “come of age”.

Closer cooperation between the two defence industries, rather than cash, would likely fit that goal.

Two killed in Israeli helicopter attack near Gaza City
We’ve been covering an Israeli Apache helicopter attack on a fishing port west of Gaza City.

The Wafa news agency reports that the death toll from the attack has risen to two people, and that several others were wounded.

Israeli attacks across Gaza wounded several other people on Sunday, according to Wafa.

A bomb from a quadcopter drone hit a group of people in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, east of Gaza City, injuring several. Israeli forces also shelled the area surrounding Al-Hatabiya Street in Beit Lahiya, in the north of the Strip.

🇵🇸 Palestinian Resistance Factions:

We value the principled stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the freezing of ceasefire negotiations with the zionist-American enemy, and the emphasis on the condition of halting the war and the zionist-American aggression on all fronts and arenas, including Lebanon and Gaza.

This stance comes as a natural extension and continuation of the authentic Iranian positions towards our Palestinian people, their resistance, and all the peoples of the nation in confronting the zionist-American aggression that targets the entire nation.

We call on the free people of the nation to mobilize generally to support the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples in confronting the genocide and the ongoing zionist-American aggression, which targets both people and stone in implementation of the Talmudic zionist plans and the criminal zionist project called "greater "israel"".

🚨 Settlers have set fire to multiple areas in the plains surrounding the town of Odla, south of Nablus. The fires are currently spreading.

Attacks by settlers involving the burning of land and olive trees have escalated across the West Bank in recent days as the weather gets hotter, destroying food sources and threatening livestock relied on by Palestinian families.

⚫️ Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement Spokesperson Mohammed Al-Haj Musa:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

We condemn the assault carried out by a group of settlers against the people of the village of Umm Safa in the Ramallah district, which included burning the car of the village council head and writing inflammatory slogans on the walls of his house.

This assault reveals once again the terrorist nature of the settler gangs, which enjoy protection and direct support from the "israeli" occupation government and its army. They spare no effort in practicing organized terrorism against our people and their property, under zionist government and security sponsorship.

"israeli" assaults on the Gaza Strip also continue despite the ceasefire, through bombing, gunfire, and the targeting of civilians, leading to the fall of more martyrs and wounded, in a continuous violation of the truce and a blatant disregard for the lives and suffering of Palestinians.

We consider these continuous crimes to come within the context of a systematic policy aimed at terrorizing the people and pushing them to leave their land; however, it will not succeed in breaking the will of our people or undermining their steadfastness and adherence to their national rights.

🟢 Hamas:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

On the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression: We call for the criminalization of the terrorist occupation entity for its brutal violations against the children of Palestine, the inclusion of its fascist government on the blacklist of criminal entities, and the initiation of the prosecution of its leaders as war criminals.

The world celebrates on this day, the fourth of June each year, the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, at a time when the children of Palestine are living a real tragedy after the terrorist occupation entity launched a war of genocide, starvation, and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip, which has continued for two full years. Its dangerous repercussions and catastrophic effects continue, and children are at the heart of this targeting; more than 21,000 of them have been martyred, including about 19,000 school students, more than 450 infants, more than 1,000 children who have not completed their first year, and more than 5,000 children under the age of five. More than 200 children have died due to hunger and as a result of cold and frost in the tents of the displaced. Furthermore, more than 44,000 have been injured and wounded, most of whom need treatment outside the Strip, and about 58,000 children have lost one or both of their parents during the two years of aggression and genocide.

In the West Bank and occupied Al-Quds, more than 237 children have been martyred, the occupation has arrested more than 1,655 children, and more than 12,000 children are living in tragic conditions as a result of the forced displacement practiced by the fascist occupation government in the northern West Bank since the beginning of last year. They are also constantly exposed to continuous attacks by occupation soldiers and settler assaults.

These statistics and numbers exceed all figures recorded over four years of conflicts around the world and reveal part of the reality of the genocide and aggression that our Palestinian people have been and are being subjected to. This reflects a zionist criminality that the modern era has never witnessed, violating all international norms, charters, and international humanitarian law, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, which places the international community and international institutions before their political, legal, and humanitarian responsibilities to take serious and effective action to criminalize the occupation, expose its violations against the children of Palestine, work by all means to stop them, and prosecute their perpetrators in international courts as war criminals.

We, in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), on the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, and in the face of the continued crimes and violations of the occupation, even after the announcement of the ceasefire, affirm the following:

First: The United Nations and the international community's celebration of this day every year is a fitting opportunity to recall the suffering and pain of the children of Palestine, due to the criminality of the fascist occupation government, and places them before a political, legal, moral, and humanitarian responsibility to put an end to the occupation's continued grave violations and horrific crimes against our children and to prevent them from their simplest natural rights.

Second: We call on human rights and humanitarian institutions all over the world to assume their responsibilities, take immediate measures to stop violations of the rights of Palestinian children, provide humanitarian aid as well as the necessary medical, educational, psychological, and social care for them, and take all measures to ensure their return to practicing their normal lives, like the children of the world.

Third: We call on the United Nations to include the "israeli" occupation on its blacklist that includes entities that target children with killing, torture, displacement, and deprivation of the basic rights of normal life, which the occupation persists in practicing daily against innocent childhood in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Al-Quds, and the occupied interior.

🔴 Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine:

Press Statement

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine confirms that the "israeli" escalation of its crimes in the Gaza Strip—most recently targeting safe homes and bombing residential apartments on top of their residents, leading to the extermination of entire families and wiping them from the civil registry—are war crimes that reflect the criminal nature of the occupation. It confirms its frenzied pursuit to impose a bloody reality that deepens the suffering of our people.

The escalation of this aggression, coinciding with the continued policy of starvation, suffocating siege, and the prevention of the entry of essential goods, relief supplies, and fuel, comes in an anticipatory and escalatory context to undermine any efforts leading to approaches that would make a ceasefire agreement effectively operational, rather than it remaining a cover used by the occupation government to continue systematic killing and ethnic cleansing.

These attacks are a clear message from the zionist government to the international community and the Security Council that it is not concerned with any legal or political obligations, and that it is proceeding with its plan based on the physical liquidation of the Palestinian people, bypassing all attempts aimed at imposing a real calm.

The war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu intends to use Palestinian blood and expand the crimes of killing and displacement as material for his election propaganda, offering it to the zionist public, which is thirsty for killing and destruction, in a way that is consistent with strategic plans aimed at exterminating the Gaza Strip and getting rid of the demographic mass within it through killing and displacement.

In the face of this dangerous escalation, the Front demands that mediators move immediately and effectively to pressure the parties guaranteeing the agreement to compel the occupation to stop its aggression and crimes immediately.

Check out this very serious statement from the Hexagon. Gee, I wonder if they'll stop letting "Israeli" officials into the Pentagon without any security checks, stop allowing "Israelis" into meetings without clearance, stop allowing ideologically and financially committed zionists (*cough* Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel, Alex Karp, Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Larry Ellison, etc. *cough*) to be in charge of mass surveillance & private data collection, stop "outsourcing" surveillance & communications tech to "Israeli" companies (like the one run by pedophile Ehud Barak), stop allowing sales* of surveillance and communications tech to "Israel," stop arming "Israel" (whose rampant spying and blackmail the Pentagon is, like, totally concerned about), stop doing "joint missions" with "Israel," prevent politicians from developing close relationships with AIPAC lobbyists, and make AIPAC register as a foreign agent?
It seems like all of those things would be high priority if the Pentagon was actually more worried about US security than they are about endlessly backing zionist terror.

Italian rank-and-file unions hold nationwide strike against austerity and war

Workers across Italy struck on Thursday against austerity, genocide and war. The action was called by sindacati di base, Italy’s rank-and-file unions. It mobilised workers in transport, air traffic, ports, motorways, logistics, healthcare, schools, universities, public administration, and fire services, including in Turin, Milan, Bergamo, Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples.

It was the latest in a cycle of working class resistance in Italy. It followed nationwide strikes in September against the Gaza genocide, in November against the Meloni government’s austerity and rearmament budget, the Manovra 2026, and a May 18 strike and protest against the Israeli seizure of the Global Sumud Flotilla. Each of these actions was called by rank-and-file unions.

The May 29 strike was called by a coalition of unions including CUB (Confederazione Unitaria di Base), SGB (Sindacato Generale di Base), SI Cobas (Sindacato Intercategoriale Cobas), ADL Varese, and USI-CIT. These unions emerged and grew precisely because workers in critical sectors including logistics, ports, and education correctly concluded that CGIL, CISL and UIL served to impose concessions and productivity deals on the workers. They function, as one logistics worker told the WSWS in Rome, “like bosses.”

National rail struck from 21:00 on May 28 to 21:00 on May 29, and air transport for the full day, while local-transit strikes varied by city. In Rome and Milan, disruption fell mainly on municipal transport, with guaranteed-service windows only within the legal bands surrounding normal rush-hour traffic in the morning and evening. A protest march started in Milan from the Piazza della Scala.

In Naples, trains and certain metro lines faced delays, and Si-Cobas members staged a sit in at the Port Authority to protest dismissals of rank-and-file union members and arms shipments to Israel. Union members, including dockers and logistics, metal and health contract workers, marched to the offices of Grimaldi, which controls port operations. They reportedly obtained a commitment to improve trainee working conditions but no commitment on Israel.

In Turin, rail and air transport were shut down, though municipal transport functioned normally. There was an evening rally at the Piazza Costello, and a daytime protest march organized by the “Torino per Gaza” coordination. Around 100 protesters gathered near the Turin offices of defence firm Leonardo, though no clashes were reported unlike at similar protests last year.

WSWS reporters in Rome spoke to members of the SI-Cobas rank-and-file union, which mainly organizes logistics workers, at a demonstration outside the Economy Ministry.

Bereket, a worker from Eritrea, told the WSWS he was striking against a “minimum services” law Georgia Meloni’s far-right government is using to limit workers’ right to strike. He said, “We are striking against Law 146, which prevents you from going on strike when there is a problem at the warehouse. If the safety rules are not respected—or payment rules, or anything inside the warehouse—if you have problems, you cannot strike.”

He stressed that the right to strike is the fundamental weapon of the working class to defend its rights and living standards against austerity and war: “In the warehouse, work is the foundation of life. If there is no work there is no life, you cannot get by. Everything has gone up because of the wars the politicians are making: they keep pushing up prices for everything… and the salary has always stayed the same. So we pay for petrol, for the high cost of living, we try to improve our salary at the warehouse, because the bills all go up, but not the salary.”

Meloni, Bereket added, “has opposed the struggle for workers’ rights. So the grassroots unions are truly fighting to bring about change, both for workers and overall. They fight for healthcare, because the money for healthcare is taken and goes into weapons, into war, elsewhere—in Iraq, Palestine—as all capitalist imperialists do.”

Asked about the necessity of the international unification of the struggles of the working class, Bereket said: “We, as workers, together with the rank-and-file unions, we fight internationally. I am not Italian, but I stand alongside Italians, alongside workers from other countries. I always go out to demonstrate, against the war and against what the politicians do.”

Leonardo, also from SI-Cobas, told the WSWS he was striking against war and austerity, as Italy funnels billions of euros into rearmament and war. “Today the situation of wage workers in Italy is dreadful,” he said. “Spending on armies and on war—spending ordered by governments—keeps rising, and it is paid for by workers: through rising living costs, rising military expenditure, cuts to healthcare, cuts to pensions.” He added:
With rising military spending, healthcare, pensions, hospitals and schools are cut. So workers must organise and oppose wars waged by bosses for the bosses’ profits. In Italy in September, there were very important mobilisations in which hundreds of thousands of workers took to the streets against the genocide. We have a duty of international solidarity to oppose the imperialist war and all imperialist wars. Within our union we have more than fifty, sixty different nationalities—many workers who come from theatres of war. So today we are in the streets against the genocide in Palestine, against the United States’ aggressions against Venezuela, Cuba, Iran—but against all wars waged by bourgeois governments and paid for by workers with their own lives.

The growth of the influence of rank-and-file unions, he added, was the product of this situation and deepening disillusionment among workers with the CGIL, UIL and CISL bureaucracies. “Today workers obviously realise that the confederal unions no longer protect workers; they often go along with the logic of companies and governments,” Leonardo said. “And so more and more they are turning towards the base unions.”

Asked about his union, Leonardo said: “SI-Cobas was founded 10 years ago in logistics. In logistics the situation was one of slavery: we were working off the books, twelve, thirteen hours a day. Through our struggles and strikes, we won our rights, we raised wages, we improved working conditions in the workplace. Today we are here in the streets together with dozens of logistics workers… Thanks to the struggles, workers improved their working conditions.”

Leonardo stressed his agreement with the need for an international struggle: “It is essential today to build international solidarity—as was done in the ports, and in certain sectors—and to build this international unity to bring together workers from all over the world, first and foremost in Europe and then worldwide, and to fight against the big companies that keep exploiting workers, so as to be more effective in our struggle.”

Asked about a revolutionary struggle for workers’ power and socialism by workers in Europe, he pointed to both the mortal crisis of capitalism and workers’ disillusionment with existing parties.

Leonardo said, “As comrades in the union, many of us are communist comrades, we are anti-capitalists. It is clear to us today that the contradictions of this system are growing ever stronger. Italy has had a powerful workers’ movement; over the last 30 years that movement has been weaker, and in this one can see how the contradictions of this system have advanced and grown.”

He indicated workers’ lack of confidence in Italy’s established parties, saying: “I do not believe that the left-wing parties currently in opposition or in parliament are workers’ parties.”

Two fundamental questions are posed. Firstly, there is the necessary unification of rank-and-file workers in struggle, not in a national but in an international organization that can coordinate and oversee joint action in workplaces in many different countries to stop arms deliveries, genocide and war. International solidarity must be realized in the building of international organizations of struggle.

At least 5 killed in Israeli strike on Gaza City
Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reports that at least five people were killed while attending a wedding in Gaza City after Israel bombed the wedding tent.

Dimitri Lascaris | Greek Protesters 'Welcome' Israeli Tourists To Athens
Today (June 3), an Israeli cruise ship arrived at the Greek port of Piraeus carrying nearly 2,000 tourists from the genocidal entity.

The ship and its passengers were 'welcomed' to Greece by citizens of conscience, who protested against the Greek government's deep complicity in Israel's crimes.

Dimitri Lascaris attended the protest and explained that Greece's Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, lies about the attitudes of Greeks to Israel's genocidal crimes.

🚨🛡️ Rade' Resistance Security Force:

On 20/05/2026, the "israeli" occupation besieged two aid transport trucks near the Qatari Hospital in Rafah, as the two trucks are owned by Qamari Transport and Logistics Services.

During the siege of the trucks, members of the collaborator gangs arrested the drivers: Mohammed Abdel Fattah Al-Heela (44 years old - Khan Younis) and Mahmoud Nafez Awad (31 years old - Gaza), then executed them in cold blood.

The force confirms the continuation of the investigation into the circumstances of the execution crime, until identifying the collaborators who committed the execution crime against the drivers, confirming that this crime is inseparable from the attempts of the "israeli" occupation and its collaborators to obstruct the arrival of aid to the Gaza Strip.

UN verifies rapes of Palestinians, but still cites NO Israeli victims

https://electronicintifada.net/content/un-verifies-rapes-palestinians-still-cites-no-israeli-victims/51440

In his latest annual report to the Security Council on sexual violence in armed conflict, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warns that the verified crimes against Palestinians should be seen as “indicative of incidents and patterns” more broadly.

For the first time, Guterres added Israel’s military and security forces to the UN list of entities credibly suspected of responsibility for patterns of rape or other forms of sexual violence.

The full extent of those crimes is difficult to document because Israel continues to deny UN investigators access to detention sites and to Gaza, while reporting is further obstructed by “explicit threats” from Israeli forces “coercing detainees not to report abuse,” according to the report.

June 8th, 2026:
🟢 Hamas:

We highly value the Iranian and Yemeni response to the zionist entity due to its crimes against Lebanon and its honorable people.

In light of the crimes of the zionist occupation and its continuous aggression against our people in Gaza, the West Bank, and Al-Quds, and against the brotherly Lebanese people, working to stop this zionist aggression and its continuous crimes has become an urgent priority. This requires the solidarity of various parties in the region and the world to put an end to it, as it has become clear that the zionist entity and its unbridled aggressive behavior are the source of all tensions in the region and their dangerous repercussions on the international arena.

The occupation has proven, through its continuous aggression against Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran, and through its treachery and repeated reneging on its commitments and violation of agreements it signs, that it is an entity that respects no covenant and adheres to no understanding. It continues its violations and breaches of all international agreements and obligations, confirming that its aggressive policies represent a permanent threat to the security and stability of the region.

The zionist aggression against Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran does not target these parties alone, but constitutes an assault on the entire nation and its capabilities. This compels all components of the nation to stand as one rank in the face of these continuous attacks, and to strengthen all forms of solidarity and support to contribute to deterring the occupation and curbing its escalating aggression.

⚫️ Palestinian Islamic Jihad:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement blesses the Iranian response to the crimes of the zionist entity.

We bless the missile strikes carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran against targets and sites inside the occupied Palestinian territories, in response to the escalation by the government of war criminals in the usurping entity in its aggressive policies in the region, which reached the southern suburb of Beirut yesterday, amidst its continued denial and repeated violation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

We also bless the strikes launched by the Yemeni Armed Forces against the entity and their announcement of a complete and total ban on maritime navigation for the enemy's movements in the Red Sea.

The past period has proven beyond any doubt that the zionist entity is the sole obstacle to reaching a ceasefire in the region, and it continues to shed the blood of the peoples of our nation, especially in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, in service of political goals and in fulfillment of Talmudic delusions of expansion, hegemony, and control.

The Iranian strikes constitute an opportunity to protect Arab national security and the security of the region's states, to deter the zionist entity from continuing its criminality, to force it to adhere to agreements, and to protect the resistance forces in the region, which are the pillar of the dignity of the Arab and Islamic nation and its support in the face of the tyranny of the entity supported by the American administration.

🟢 Hamas:

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) warns of the danger of the escalating "israeli" colonial settlement tide in the occupied West Bank, the latest manifestation of which was the issuance of orders and notifications to seize thousands of dunams of citizens' land in the governorates of Tubas and Jenin, as part of the annexation and displacement schemes targeting our land and our people.

We affirm that these decisions represent a dangerous escalation in the policy of settlement expansion and the imposition of facts on the ground in the West Bank, in light of the state of international silence and inability, and the failure of the international community to curb the occupation and stop its aggressive schemes.

These measures, aimed at seizing our people's land under flimsy military and security pretexts, represent a flagrant violation of international law and an assault on our people's historical and inalienable right to their land, a right that our steadfast people will not forfeit, no matter the sacrifices.

We call on the masses of our people in the West Bank to further steadfastness and firmness, to hold onto their land and rights, and to activate all means of confrontation and tools of resistance. We demand that the international community and the free people of the world assume their responsibilities and act urgently to stop these violations and hold the occupation accountable for its continuous crimes against our people and our land.

⚫️ Palestinian Islamic Jihad:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Statement issued by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement regarding the "israeli" occupation's assassination of its cadres in Gaza concurrently with the round of talks:

Concurrently with the round of talks held by Palestinian factions and forces in Cairo regarding a ceasefire in Gaza, the occupation forces targeted a number of the movement's cadres in the Gaza Strip, leading to the martyrdom of five of the movement's cadres and fighters, along with a number of civilian martyrs.

This targeting, and the ongoing crimes against our people in Gaza, is a confirmation of the occupation's continued violation of the ceasefire. It comes within the framework of its attempts to impose its security conditions through fire, in denial of all agreements, in disregard of all the mediators' efforts, and as a blatant attempt to abort all efforts to compel it to implement the agreements, foremost among them being the cessation of assassinations and the opening of crossings.

The criminal practices of the usurping entity and its army will not deter the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement from its positions by an inch. Rather, it increases our determination to adhere to our firm positions regarding all the issues on the table, foremost among them being the withdrawal of the occupation from the Gaza Strip, the opening of crossings, the entry of aid, and reconstruction.

🚨🛡️ Rade' Resistance Security Force:

Within a security operation based on monitoring and precise investigations, a group of agents directed by "collaborator gangs" and in direct coordination with the intelligence of the "israeli" occupation was apprehended; they were using various covers to engage in sabotage and inciting acts within the Gaza Strip.

The agents confessed to working on inciting citizens and stirring up chaos inside the Gaza Strip, with the intention of luring police officers in preparation for their targeting by the "israeli" occupation and its agents; investigations also revealed their plans to target resistance cadres and security and police leadership as part of their sabotage plot.

Our security assessments confirm the existence of intentions by the "israeli" occupation to direct the "collaborator gangs" to carry out sabotage acts during the coming period in more than one area, coinciding with activating other agents inside the Strip to carry out other inciting acts.

We have achieved a major accomplishment in uncovering those involved in these sabotage acts and have confiscated weapons and other tools from them, and other operations are currently underway to apprehend and neutralize them; this is to definitively remove the security threat.

We call on citizens to be vigilant and cautious of inciting media platforms, and to report any security or inciting activity, and we affirm that the Resistance Security field force, Rade', remains committed to defending our people, no matter the circumstances.

⚡️Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem:

The killing of 1,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire came into effect means that the genocidal war is still ongoing, that the people of Gaza are living through a continuous massacre, and that the occupation is deliberately violating the agreement in a systematic manner.

This places a political, moral, and legal responsibility on everyone, especially the mediating and guarantor states, to pressure the occupation and compel it to stop these violations.

We call on the Security Council to prove, for once, that it seeks peace by identifying the party obstructing the agreement, namely the occupation, and pressuring it.

There is also a moral and political responsibility on the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take effective action to stop this ongoing massacre against our people in the Gaza Strip.

⚡️Ismail Al-Thawabta, Director of Gaza Media Office:

The Israeli occupation has committed 3,201 violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The occupation continues to target civilians and employ a policy of systematic starvation, in violations that amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

These violations have resulted in the killing of 985 Palestinians, the injury of 3,097 others, and the abduction of 83 citizens.

Only 52,129 aid trucks entered the Gaza Strip out of the 144,000 that were supposed to enter, representing a compliance rate of no more than 36%.

The occupation allowed only 6,488 travelers to leave through the Rafah crossing out of the 19,000 who were supposed to depart, representing only 34% compliance.

We call the mediators and sponsors of the ceasefire agreement to intervene urgently, pressure the occupation, and compel it to implement the terms of the agreement and halt its ongoing violations.

Senate wants to force US to share sensitive intel with Israel
A measure in a must-pass bill would dramatically increase Israeli access to American secrets

Buried deep inside a 192-page intelligence authorization bill is Section 622, titled “United States-Israel Intelligence Sharing Enhancement.” It would require the president, acting through the director of national intelligence and as necessary the secretary of defense, to “expand and enhance intelligence sharing with the Government of Israel” on a list of subjects that encompasses almost every topic of intelligence interest in the Middle East.

The bill, put forward by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, would prohibit any suspension, reduction, or limitation of such sharing “except on the basis of a specific and identifiable national security concern determined by the President.” Any such exception would require a report to Congress within fifteen days detailing not only the reason for the change but also the categories of information involved. The same report would require an assessment of the anticipated impact on regional security and various other matters.

This proposal is one of several recent moves by those in Washington who carry the Israeli government’s water to keep the United States tied to Israel despite plummeting support for the country among the American public. The most salient form of U.S. support to Israel has been more than $300 billion in economic and especially military assistance. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tried to get ahead of the declining public support and avoid embarrassing losses by suggesting it would be fine with him to phase out the military aid.

Israel’s strategy and that of its U.S. supporters is now to rely on ties with, and support from, the United States that are not as salient as the military aid with its prominent price tag. The strategy includes forms of military integration that are less visible than congressionally appropriated grant aid and therefore less publicly accountable. Section 224 of a defense authorization bill currently in the House of Representatives embodies this form of integration.

The mandating of intelligence sharing carries this strategy further by moving it into the shadowy world of relations between intelligence agencies. That world is even farther removed from public visibility and accountability than the defense integration, and even less likely to stimulate thoughts about American taxpayers’ money going to a foreign country. So far, Section 622 of the intelligence bill has received less attention than Section 224 of the defense bill.

The notion of legislating an intelligence liaison relationship in this way, with any foreign country, is bizarre. Liaison with counterpart foreign services, including exchanges of information, is an important but complex part of the intelligence business. The nature of a liaison relationship depends partly on the temperature of the overall political relationship with the country in question but also on other factors known mostly to intelligence officers. These include the collection requirements levied on them, their ability or inability to meet those requirements with national resources, their assessment of the foreign service’s ability and willingness to fill collection gaps, the role that any trading of information plays as quid pro quos in operational cooperation, and the risks of compromising intelligence sources and methods.

Moreover, no single liaison relationship exists in isolation. The U.S. intelligence services need to consider possible implications for their other foreign relationships. For example, one generally does not share with country A information about country B if the United States has a relationship with B that is about at the same level as it has with A. Intelligence liaison involves a hierarchy of relationships, ranging from extensive cooperation with close allies to carefully limited ad hoc exchanges with adversaries. The intelligence community has a staff with the full-time job of monitoring and managing this set of relationships to prevent crossed wires. A congressional mandate regarding a single relationship increases the chance of crossed wires.

An irony is that the Congress considering this mandate is the same Congress that has in effect surrendered to the president its powers under Article I of the Constitution to set tariff rates and to decide whether to wage war. And yet, Section 622 would involve congressional micromanagement of a matter that by its nature needs to be the business of the executive branch and especially the intelligence agencies.

In intelligence, Israel is more of an adversary than an ally. Being an adversary in intelligence means indulging in the hostile act of espionage. Israel has a long record of conducting that type of hostile act against the United States. The best-known case involves the spy Jonathan Pollard, who stole such an overwhelming volume of U.S. secrets that then-Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger stated to the court that sentenced Pollard that it was difficult “ to conceive of a greater harm to national security than that caused by the defendant in view of the breadth, the critical importance to the U.S., and the high sensitivity of the information he sold to Israel.”

When Pollard completed his prison sentence and parole in 2020, he was given a hero's welcome, led by Netanyahu himself, on his arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel. There was nothing noble in Pollard’s actions. Although he liked to say he was motivated by concern about Israel’s security, before selling his espionage services to Israel he offered to sell U.S. secrets to three other countries and made the same offer to a fourth country even when spying for Israel.

The Israeli espionage threat to the United States has only intensified. Last week, NBC News reported that the Defense Intelligence Agency raised the threat level for such espionage, evidently a reflection mostly of U.S.-Israeli differences over the Iran war. The New York Times quotes an official saying that Israeli intelligence operations aimed at senior U.S. officials during the second Trump administration have become so aggressive as to be “unhinged.”

Any sensitive information, including intelligence secrets, shared with Israel entails a high risk of Israel passing it to other countries, including U.S. adversaries. Israel has a long record of that, too, and not just because Israel probably passed some of the secrets Pollard purloined to the USSR, in exchange for Moscow allowing Soviet Jews to emigrate. Israel’s sharing of U.S.-origin military technology with China has been an issue. That the partner may be a rogue state has not stopped Israel from military and technical cooperation, as demonstrated by its relationship with apartheid-era South Africa, which extended even to the development of nuclear weapons.

The risk of Israel passing sensitive U.S. information to other states continues partly because Israel is hungry for cordial relationships — and especially establishment of new formal diplomatic relations — with any country willing to have such relations despite Israel’s continued subjugation of the Palestinians. Secrets from U.S. intelligence would be very attractive to some of Israel’s partners or potential partners, and thus attractive to Israel as trading material. Those other countries may include China, with which Israel continues to have extensive technical cooperation, and Russia.

Even without any passing to third countries, Israel’s own use of much U.S. intelligence is apt to be contrary to U.S. interests and the interest of peace and security in the Middle East, and for many of the same reasons underlying the reduced popularity of Israel among the U.S. public. Israel has started more wars and attacked more nations than any other country in the Middle East. In recent years it has inflicted more death and destruction on civilians through military operations than any other Middle Eastern state. It uses violence to seek regional hegemony and destroy Palestinian nationhood in ways that are inconsistent with U.S. interests.

The current ill-advised war with Iran demonstrates the sharp divergence of U.S. and Israeli interests. After being the principal influence on President Donald Trump’s decision to launch the war, Netanyahu’s government has been sabotaging efforts to end it. It currently is doing so mainly with relentless attacks in Lebanon that have killed thousands and displaced over a million people. The divergence of objectives was reflected in an expletive-laden phone call last week between Trump and Netanyahu that was mainly about those attacks.

Attacks that sabotage diplomacy are among the Israeli operations that might use shared U.S. intelligence. The United States also will be blamed for aiding other violent Israeli operations because of the “enhanced” intelligence sharing, even if it were no longer paying for Israeli arms.

The supposed escape clause in Section 622 of the intelligence bill would in practice be so cumbersome as to be useless. The required report to Congress would dump the issue on Capitol Hill, where the Israel lobby would quickly depict it as a question of being for or against the security of Israel. The mandated intelligence sharing in the bill thus would tie the president’s hands and prevent any administration from using management of the intelligence liaison relationship as leverage to deter destructive conduct by Israel.

🟢 Hamas Spokesman, Hazem Qassem:

The criminal "israeli" enemy's actions in shifting the yellow line in Gaza constitute a flagrant violation of the ceasefire and expose the impotence of the guarantor states and the "Peace Council."

The spokesman for the Hamas movement, Hazem Qassem, affirmed that what the criminal "israeli" enemy army did by shifting the yellow line westward at dawn today in Gaza City, accompanied by bombing and the displacement of our people in the Strip, constitutes a flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement.

Qassem emphasized today, Friday, that this step represents an implementation of the terrorist head of the occupation government's threats to increase the rate of control over the Gaza Strip, in light of the silence of the so-called "Peace Council" and its director, Mladenov, and the inability of the mediating and guarantor states to prevent this new violation.

The spokesman for the Hamas movement pointed out that these violations coincide with the ongoing negotiations in Cairo and the positivity shown by the Palestinian factions, explaining that these violations by the criminal enemy reflect its lack of desire to implement the ceasefire agreement, its intention to blow up the negotiation path, thwart the efforts being made, and continue the escalation to serve its political and electoral calculations.

🚨 The Commission of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club announced the martyrdom of prisoner Imad Rajeh Sarhan (47) from Haifa inside the "israeli" "Gilboa" prison.

Sarhan, who had been detained since 2001 and was serving a life sentence, suffered from chronic heart and vascular diseases caused by years of systematic torture and medical negligence in "israeli" detention. His health had deteriorated severely in recent years, forcing him to use a wheelchair.

With his martyrdom, the number of prisoners whose identities have been confirmed as martyrs since the start of the genocide in October 2023 has risen to 90. The total number of martyr prisoners since 1967 has reached 327.

The Commission and the Club stated that the occupation authorities bear full responsibility for his martyrdom, which falls under the ongoing systematic policies of slow execution, torture, and medical neglect carried out by the "israeli" prison system against Palestinian prisoners.

Leading medical journal The Lancet publishes call to expel Israeli Medical Association over Gaza genocide
——
Medical journal The Lancet has published a petition calling for the Israeli Medical Association to be boycotted and expelled from the World Medical Association over its failure to condemn what the petition describes as Israel's genocide against Palestinians and the collapse of Gaza's healthcare system.

The campaign, launched by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, Healthcare Workers for Palestine, and Doctors for Gaza, has so far received support from more than 1,150 healthcare professionals and medical organizations. The call for expulsion is expected to be raised at the World Medical Association's general assembly in October.

The Israeli Medical Association opposed the move, arguing that its expulsion would not advance peace, healthcare, or human rights, and would instead create a precedent for using political pressure campaigns to isolate healthcare workers based on their nationality.

HRF Calls on U.S. DOJ to Prosecute Israeli-American Jake Burkons for Gaza War Crimes While He Attends the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a request for prosecution to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) against Jake Burkons, an Israeli-American dual national, based on evidence of his involvement in war crimes and acts of genocide committed in the Gaza Strip. Jake Burkons is currently in the US where he is attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This filing follows a criminal complaint filed against Burkons by the HRF in Sri Lanka as Burkons vacationed in the country last month.

Jake Burkons served in Company D of the 603rd Combat Engineering Battalion, part of the 7th Armoured Brigade of the Israeli army. He voluntarily enlisted following the events of 7 October 2023 and was subsequently deployed to Gaza, where he took part in military operations extensively documented by HRF investigators.

A Battalion of Systematic Destruction

The 603rd Combat Engineering Battalion has emerged, through extensive documentation, as a central operational unit in the widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure across Gaza. While nominally tasked with engineering functions such as mine clearance and fortification, its activities in practice have consisted of the systematic demolition of civilian areas.

HRF has documented at least 65 controlled demolitions carried out by the battalion between October 2023 and mid-2025. These operations targeted residential buildings, mosques, agricultural land, and industrial facilities. The unit has also been implicated in attacks on hospitals and in the unlawful detention and ill-treatment of civilians.

These actions form part of a broader pattern of conduct aimed at rendering large parts of Gaza uninhabitable and facilitating territorial fragmentation, including through the creation of military corridors such as the so-called “Morag Axis” in southern Gaza.

Direct Involvement of Jake Burkons

HRF’s investigation has established Jake Burkons’ direct connection to at least one incident of unlawful destruction in Khan Younis in October–November 2025.

Burkons himself published visual evidence on his social media accounts showing his presence inside Gaza, including in Khan Younis and Rafah. In one instance, he is seen holding a detonation cable inside a destroyed civilian building alongside fellow soldiers, indicating active participation in a controlled demolition. In another, he shared footage of a demolition operation, geotagged to Khan Younis and marked with his company’s insignia.

Controlled demolitions are highly methodical operations requiring prior entry into buildings, placement of explosives, and withdrawal under secure conditions. As such, they are incompatible with active combat scenarios and strongly indicate the absence of immediate military necessity. Under international humanitarian law, such destruction of civilian property is unlawful when not justified by concrete and direct military advantage.

Legal Qualification of the Acts and Legal Action

Given that Mr. Burkons is currently present in the territory of the US and an US citizen, HRF submitted that the US has both the jurisdiction and legal obligation to prosecute him for:

War crimes under 18 U.S.C. § 2441, namely

Extensive destruction of property, not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly. Geneva Convention IV Article 147; 18 USC §2441(c)(1).
The destruction or seizure of the enemy's property, not imperatively demanded by the necessities of war. The Hague Convention II (1899) Regulations: Art. 23(g); 18 USC §2441(c)(2).
Attacking or bombarding, by whatever means, towns, villages, dwellings or buildings which are undefended. The Hague Convention II (1899) Regulations: Art. 25; 18 USC §2441(c)(2).
Direct perpetration of genocide 18 U.S.C. § 1091.

The available evidence indicates that the targeted structures did not meet the criteria of military objectives at the time of their destruction. Their demolition appears instead to have been carried out as part of a broader policy of territorial control and forced displacement, subjecting the Palestinian people to conditions of life intended to cause their physical destruction.

HRF requested that the U.S. Department of Justice:

Immediately open a criminal investigation into Mr. Burkons based on credible, publicly available, and verified evidence;
Pursuant to an investigation, issue a warrant for his arrest, pursuant to Rule 4 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and 18 U.S.C. §§ 2441 and 371;
Take Mr. Burkons into custody without delay, and commence prosecution before a competent U.S. federal court; or, in the alternative, prevent Mr. Burkons from leaving U.S. jurisdiction pending a full investigation into his alleged crimes.
Alert immigration and border authorities to prevent flight and ensure lawful detention pending trial;
Comply with Article 146 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which mandates that States Parties: “shall be under the obligation to search for persons alleged to have committed, or to have ordered to be committed, such grave breaches, and shall bring such persons, regardless of their nationality, before its own courts.”

Jake Romm, HRF’s Representative in the United States, called on U.S. politicians to take action:

““The War Crimes Act was passed to prevent all war criminals, without regard to nationality, from finding safe harbor in the United States. When U.S. citizens go abroad to commit war crime and genocide, the duty to prosecute becomes even more important. Many of our politicians have decried Israel’s genocide in Gaza—with some even correctly calling it by its name. But condemnation is not enough; the perpetrators must be held to account. Now is the time for these politicians to call the arrest of Burkons and all other Israeli perpetrators in U.S. jurisdiction, for these politicians to ensure that the War Crimes Act and the promise of accountability do not become dead letter. The law demands it, the American people increasingly demand it, and, above all, justice demands it.””

The U.S. has all of the necessary legal tools at its disposal, and it has an international legal duty to use them.

Towards Accountability

The case of Jake Burkons is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of conduct by members of the 603rd Combat Engineering Battalion and other units operating in Gaza. HRF continues to monitor, document, and pursue legal action against individuals implicated in war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Accountability is not optional. It is a legal obligation.

The Hind Rajab Foundation will continue to work with national and international partners to ensure that perpetrators of international crimes are identified, exposed, and brought before competent judicial authorities.

🟢 Hamas issued a statement warning of the severe implications regarding recent announcements by the extremist zionist finance minister Bezalel Smotrich to seize full control of Al-Khalil. The movement characterized these measures as an unprecedented political and field escalation aimed at cementing the occupation of the West Bank and accelerating annexation efforts. Hamas called on the Palestinian people to escalate all forms of resistance to confront these aggressive policies and urged international bodies to act against the expansionist projects of the occupation.

🚨 Prisoners' Media Office:

The occupation continues to detain Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya as an act of revenge after he became a symbol of resilience and evidence of the occupation's crimes against Gaza prisoners and medical staff.

The "israeli" Supreme Court rejected the appeal against his continued detention under the so-called "Unlawful Combatant Law," despite no clear charges being leveled or an indictment filed against him.

Since his arrest, Hussam Abu Safiya has been subjected to abuse, torture, and solitary confinement in "Nafha" prison, amidst growing concerns regarding his health.

His continued detention constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law, and international health organizations must take urgent action to rescue him and pressure for his release.

Fourth commander of battalion that killed Hind Rajab eliminated in south Lebanon, renewing scrutiny of the unit
——
The killing of Lt. Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon, commander of the Israeli military's 52nd Battalion of the 401st Armored Brigade in southern Lebanon has renewed scrutiny of the unit responsible for the killing of six-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab in Gaza. Ben Simhon was killed alongside three other Israeli soldiers after their tank was targeted in southern Lebanon, according to the Israeli military.

The 52nd Battalion came under international scrutiny after Hind Rajab was killed in Gaza City in January 2024 when Israeli forces deliberately attacked the vehicle carrying her and six relatives with hundreds of bullets. Rajab survived the initial attack and remained trapped inside the car while speaking with emergency dispatchers. An ambulance sent to rescue her was later struck, killing the two paramedics inside.

Her body was recovered 12 days later. An Al Jazeera investigation published in October identified former 52nd Battalion commander Daniel Ela and 401st Brigade commander Col. Beni Aharon among the officers involved in the killing of Rajab, her relatives, and the ambulance crew.

In May 2025, the Belgium-based Hind Rajab Foundation filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court against Ela and Aharon, accusing them of war crimes.

According to The Times of Israel, Ben Simhon is the fourth commander of the 52nd Battalion to be killed or wounded since the start of Israel's wars in Gaza and Lebanon. The outlet reported that Ela was wounded in Gaza in July 2024 and succeeded by Lt. Col. Yehuda Shalev, who was seriously injured in October that year. Another battalion commander was later wounded in southern Lebanon before Ben Simhon took command. Channel 14 previously reported that Ela had led the battalion on three separate occasions since October 2023.

Ali Abunimah - Why I'm returning to Switzerland after my unlawful detention:

I am returning to Switzerland next week to participate in hearings related to criminal complaints I have filed in connection with my unlawful detention in Zurich in January 2025.

In February this year, Switzerland’s Federal Administrative Court ruled that the January 2025 entry ban and expulsion order against me were issued despite there being no evidence that my speech violated Swiss law or that I posed any threat to Switzerland.

The court found serious violations of my procedural rights, ordered Fedpol, the Swiss national police agency, to make a substantial contribution to my legal costs and refunded my court fees.

I can now also confirm that in March and April, Fedpol issued decisions finding that I did not constitute a threat to the internal or external security of Switzerland when I last came to the country, thus rendering the entry ban and expulsion decisions of January 2025 unlawful.

Fedpol had previously assessed that the opinions I express do not attack democratic values or the rule of law and fall within the scope of the right to free speech under the Swiss constitution.

A Swiss parliamentary investigation previously found evidence that the entry ban and expulsion order were issued following improper political interference by Nicoletta della Valle, the top federal law enforcement official at the time.

Della Valle has close ties to Israel and has expressed outspoken pro-Israel opinions. I have separately filed a criminal complaint against her, which is still pending.

The federal court victory followed a December 2025 ruling by the Zurich Administrative Court, which confirmed that my arrest and detention violated the Swiss Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights.

Together, these unlawful actions prevented me from participating in public events organized by Swiss citizens and residents to discuss Israel’s genocide in Gaza. They amounted to a severe form of official censorship.

They violated my human rights and, in my view, the constitutional rights of Swiss citizens to freedom of assembly and to receive information.

Next week’s hearings relate to criminal complaints concerning individual conduct. They are legally distinct from the administrative proceedings that successfully challenged and overturned unlawful government actions.

Pursuant to Article 204 of the Swiss Code of Criminal Procedure, I requested and received a letter of safe passage from the prosecutor guaranteeing that I will not be arrested or subjected to restrictions on my liberty while I am in Switzerland for the hearings.

In addition, my lawyers obtained written confirmation from Swiss federal authorities that there are no restrictions on my entry into the country.

I expect Swiss authorities to fully respect my rights and to adhere strictly to the rule of law. My legal team stands ready to take all necessary steps in the event of any violation.

I believe my unlawful detention in January 2025 was intended to punish and silence me for speaking out and to discourage others from doing so. My legal action seeks to ensure transparency and deter similar abuses against anyone in the future.

During my time in Switzerland, I look forward to participating in a teach-in hosted by Watermelon University on 23 June, an event originally planned for January 2025.

My pursuit of accountability and defense of free speech is being made possible by crowdfunded public support. I’m deeply grateful to each and every person who has contributed and spoken out.
