The 70th Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place in Vienna in May, will include Israel as a participant.

Signatories of the open letter supporting the boycott of KAN from No Music For Genocide include Brian Eno, Massive Attack, Paloma Faith, Paul Weller, Kneecap, Hot Chip, Of Monsters and Men, IDLES, Primal Scream, Sigur Rós, Young Fathers, Mogwai, Black Country New Road, Erika de Casier, Nadine Shah, Dry Cleaning, Roger Waters, Ólafur Arnalds, David Holmes, Nemahsis, Macklemore, Peter Gabriel, Salute, Vacations, Smerz, Mechatok, and The Knife’s Olof Dreijer.

They wrote,

As artists, we recognise our collective agency – and the power of refusal. We refuse to be silent. We refuse to be complicit. We call on others in our industry to join us. And we stand in solidarity with all principled efforts to end complicity in every industry.


Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, Iceland and the Netherlands will not be participating in Eurovision due to Israel’s inclusion in the competition, which the open letter described as “principled withdrawals”.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest is under way with tight security as critics voice concerns over Israel’s participation.

The contest has been clouded for a third year by calls for Israel to be excluded over its conflicts in Gaza and elsewhere, with five longtime participants – Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland and Slovenia – boycotting in protest.

A demonstration against Israel’s participation was planned ahead of Saturday’s final, and pro-Palestinian groups staged an outdoor concert on Friday under the banner “No Stage for Genocide”.

“Inviting Israel on such a beautiful stage as the Eurovision Song Contest stage is an affront to all the people who believe in humanity, who believe in love and togetherness,” said Congolese-Austrian artist Patrick Bongola, one of the organisers.

Why is Radiohead not as harsh on Israel as opposed to mainland China, such as when they played at the Free Tibet concerts in the late 90s and early 2000s?

It's very odd, the explanation that one of them is married to an "israeli" so they literally cannot criticize anything which is directly understood to be "israel"-related. They tried to re-puff their bogus anti-establishment image recently by acting mad about ICE using one of their songs for some weird ICE promo video, but if she had been in the IOF a few years later, Johnny Greenwood's girlfriend could have literally trained the ICE agents who are going around shooting people and detaining people for criticizing a certain apartheid state, and Radiohead are actively banking on people not understanding that, and actively encouraging them to ignore it. It's weird to posture as outspoken and actually be aggressively obscurantist.

I have no idea, I'm not sure if anti-idpol punk is a thing.
I guess maybe Future of the Left could count, I forget if they've addressed idpol specifically or not, iirc they have a song kind of satirizing it… and their general outlook seems to be cynical.

There are also the olden Redskin bands like Angelic Upstarts who dealt in class politics. I don't like them as much as I used to, 'cuz they were anti-USSR during the Polish crisis (seems like an op in retrospect), but they aren't very idpol-y afaik.
